I have tried everything from laptop 2 go drivers etc. I really need to get drivers for this fx 3700m I have swapped out into this alienware. Does anyone happen to have the driver for this particular setup that works? I will install the laptop2go drivers and i get an exclamation point that device cannot start.

Ok so I figured out that the drivers cannot go past 186 and it installed fine. Well, Now the cards temperature is at 50 celcius and is not even one point higher i'n 3dmark06. It's as if the drivers aren't telling the card to run. Anyone know what I should do? I was thinking about the drover tweak option for the 280 gtx but it seems confusing. If anyone could help I'd appreciate it :)

Replaced card was an 8700gt both score a 6000.....

I figured out how to mount the gtx 280 drivers by modding the inf file shown on the other users post. I am still running at around 50 celcius and ALL of my clocks are down to 200-300 mghz!!! I need to figure out how to make the card run full throttle. Its as if the card is not engaging. I tried to bump rivatuner but it will just default back to stock settings. Can anyone help me with the correct driver to make this bad boy work correctly?

Anyhow, with no help from anyone I figured it out!!. Let me just explain what I had to do for anyone thinking about doing this. 1. IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO GET THIS TO WORK!

I actually removed the hard drive and bought the expansion bay for the m15x to replaced the cd rom. Then I had to break the connector around the hard drive and place in a cpu cooling fan from another laptop. Then the bottom lid had to have the plastic removed as to let air be sucked into the machine. I wired up the fan to the main gpu fan so it would control both, as a pulling method to get the heat out of the system. With a little bit of mighty putty i sealed up where the hard drive originally went. And of course i had to shave down the fan as it was too thick to allow the lid to close. Then i ordered an 8800m gtx heatsink as i had an 8700 gt and it would not work. Then the hard part. I installed the card and it took forever to figure out that i could not go past 186 drivers. and i got them from that laptopdrivers2go website. Then the card benchmarked poorly. I mean i was starting to get upset. So then i realized with some software that it wasnt opening up all the way. So begun the flashing of the bios and the o so tedious work of making a usb boot disc to dos. I mean these instructions are near impossible to follow and with the conversion to 64bit operating systems this makes it even harder. Well i finally got it all working and got the program to actually adjust my clocks and flash them to the gpu. And you know what after about 5 hours of play i went from a 6000 3dmark06 to a 9020!!!! Now tonight is the real test to see if i can actually use the hdmi or not. But my temperatures do not get above 82 celc while benchmarking. All in all it was a hell of a lot of work but I did it!!! Its amazing how it all came together. and its even more amazing that its running slightly overclocked and my temps remain pretty fair with my mod. I also disabled the alien fx and manually connected the keyboard lighting to internal usb that does not effect the machine in anyway but allows me not to have to install any more software :) My wife thinks this laptop is my new girl friend!!

Anyhow, the hdmi works but certain games glitch out or lock up randomly. I think this is leaning towards a driver issue. As i have reflashed the gpu with multiple settings via nibitor. Will post updated results and clocks

Anyhow I learned that these fx 3700m cards DO NOT TAKE OVERCLOCKS. and only one version is flashable to a gtx 280 which pretty much are the same thing minus the open gl features of the fx 3700m so its not worth doing anyways. But yeah, stock voltages and the games run better. The BEST things to test your gpu with are the intro of dead space, if it goes into game play with out kicking you to desktop your 100% solid. 3dmark 06 testing it with it helps, but dead space will crash if your 1% in the wrong. Anyhow all runs perfect and im benching about 8500 and my hdmi works and my fps are very high and my temps are around 79-85 c with my internal cooling mod. Its pretty dang nice!!!

Hi, looks like you've had a reasonably tough time with this - I've gone through similar things upgrading a dead 8700m GT to a 9800m GT :)

Except I didn't want to pay for the heatsink so I made up a copper plate to use as an adapter for the heatpipe part of the 8700m GT heatsink that can be removed and fitted that to it, which is working nicely.
I have found that putting a 3mm spacer on the top of the GPU part of the heatsink helps with temps immensely because the plastic casing then pushes down on the GPU part giving better core contact although that's partly down to my hackfix heatsink but it appears we're getting similar temps.

I had to find out about the 186.91 drivers the hard way too, I actually purchased an FX3600 and swapped out the mainboard thinking it was broken hehe.

Did you find the alienfusion software / services hogging CPU on your windows install? that was screwing up my own benchmarks pretty badly and disabling it has pretty much resolved the weird speed issues I was seeing.

Have you had any luck finding a SLIC 2.1 bios or anything to enable Dual-IDA? (the latter is a free 200mhz CPU overclock) That's what I'm gonna look at next.

edit: I'm getting about 9700 in 3dm06 which seems about right if not a little low for a 9800m GT, it's clocked at 590/1475 & 1000 mem, with the T8300 2.4GHz CPU. I've only got the 1440x900 screen so it's benching at 1280x854 which maybe explains the difference between our benchmarks?

edit more: hopefully this'll show up on a google search eventually, the m15x R1's PLL is a CY28547LXFC, the same as the one in the M1730 apparently and it can't set the FSB in software :(

Hello everyone! after much research I found in this post I may have what it takes to me ....
    I have assembled a m15x-R1 with a X9000 CPU, 8GB DDR2, 60GB SSD.
The PC with the integrated intel video card to boot, but if I insert the fx3600m PC starts for few seconds and then goes
Stand by pulsing with alienhead ......... how I can solve? thanks for the help
    My bios version of the video card (fx3600) is 62.92.27.00.09 (techPowerUp! :: VGA Bios Collection: HP Quadro FX 3600M 512 MB );
I discovered that there is a bios 62.92.27.00.05 (techPowerUp GPU-Z Validation g7ud5 ) which should make the card compatible with the Alienware m15x, so I ask anyone to post the bios 00.05 or otherwise who has the video card running on Alienware m15x to save the bios of the video card and maybe send it ....... Thank you!

ah I didn't spot this, I've got a 3600m and it works with my M15x so I'll get the bios from it so that you can flash it to the card :)

Make sure you've got 186.91 drivers installed, it won't work with later drivers.

edit: here's the bios, it's 00.09 the same as yours but on mine it works great?
    http://www.mediafire.com/?asbrie998ly8y4o

I also put it on the techpowerup database - it didn't see it as the same HP FX3600m bios file as that would've stopped me from uploading it, so there might be some differences that'd get it working.

Well i figured something out that might help you all in the future, I was trying to use hdmi out (to watch movie on tv) and set it to close lid and still run. Well, something glitched and in doing so the fan control wasn't running so it fried the card. (couldn't tell till the next day when i noticed a 50% drop in fps and serious gpu usage drop as well.) Reinstalled 8600gt and resolved the problem. So I traded it for a triple core desktop setup, unlocked the 4th core and traded that for a g73jh. So it all worked out pretty good. But ya, if you do this swap do not close the lid and attempt to run something on external monitor. still have the card, it needs a reflow to work.
