Legacy m17x Blank Screen Fans on High.........

I have the M17x that I bought a little over 2 years ago. I honestly dont know if that is r1 or r2 or neither. I have had no issues with it what so ever until yesterday. I apologize in advance if I am lacking in the tech speak, I am more or less a novice.

I was playing WoW when all of a sudden the screen went black. All of the lights remained on, however i couldnt do anything to shut it down aside from power off. I try to reboot, all of the lights come on, screen stays black, and the fans instantly start running at full speed.

I cleaned out all of the dust as well as i could with compressed air. Had to remove the battery, press the alien head for 30 secs to drain, installed the battery back. After that the system booted up just like normal.

I viewed everything on ntuner one the GPU (8800GT) was at roughly 67 celsius at idle and the other was around 54 celcius at idle. The 67 seems a little hot at idle based on what i have read. Then after about an hour the same thing happened the screen has gone black, and will not boot. The laptop to the touch did not seem hotter than it usually is.

I would really appreciate anyones advice, dell has been how you say not so helpful. I am really hoping i dont have a 2400 dollar paper weight.

Try to swap the GPU's (the video cards) sounds like you might have a busted card. Good Luck bud.
