Hey guys so the 9800m gt on my m15x is dying. The gpu baking only lasts for a few weeks before the card needs to be baked again.
I am looking to buy a 260m to replace it since I know its compatible but the problem is all the 260m cards I can find have 2 pins whereas the 9800m gt has 3 pins like the 8800 gtx.

So what mxm card type do I need. I would also appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction for a replacement card. Anywhere in the world will do since Im in India and Ill have to get it shipped to me anyway

    Thanks

Try searching for Nvidia Quadro Fx2700M \ FX3600M \ FX3700M - they will work in this laptops and are pretty easy to find now.

A nice ATI 3870 4850 or 4870 would also work fine AND you should be able to use the latest drivers since its an ATI/AMD card. From my understanding the Nvidia cards require you run an old driver.

They can be found in both variations. The one I got (in my sig) does not have the HE tab.

I wish I had a better answer other than hunting on ebay on/off for two years. If you read my post about getting the 4850 into my m5750 I talk about the other cards I tried and what eventually worked for me. To start you off I have tried the green pcb 4850 from an Alienware m17 in a m15x as well as my m5750 and had no luck until I found a red pcb 4850 running a different bios which worked perfectly. There is A LOT of info on this forum of what others have tried. Its a lot of trial and error to get a card that has a bios to support your model notebook. It is rewarding when you get it to work though :). IF you want something easier the 3870's are very easy to find on ebay and many here say they work without any issues.

Thanks, I have been regularly checking ebay for the cards as well and mailed RJTech but they dont have ANY of the compatible nvidia or ati cards in stock, just the mxm 3b ones. I think I went though your thread recently cos I remember some talk of a red PCB ati card version working butI think those would be pretty rare since they are engineering samples arent they ?

I am pretty sure they are but they were the only ones to work with my m5750 from 2006. Back in march an ebay seller had 3 4870's and 1 4850 for sale, all red pcb cards. He was selling them cheap too.

The ATI 4850 from MSI laptops will not work on built in laptop displays.

The ATI 4870 from the Asus w90vp while standard MXM 2.1 HE has been tested unsupported in the m15x.
