Are there any guidesin how to do this?

du to an incident with the original stuff alienware use as thermal paste i just replaced AW stock thermal paste with my thermal right chill factor tube and for now idlle temperature seem a bit worst then stock
how ever idlle temperature without the back and a cooler are better then the ones i had when doing the same with AW original stuff

and under load temp also seem better i'll look into upgrading to AS5 later but for now this does the job

this pic of cooling mod and seing my gpu temp going under 50 deg for the first time with a cooler o_O i might try to build a custom back pannel with a cooler integrated

    through the usb
two of my usb port had thier plastic part damaged i can still plug someting in it but i fear that long therm use of them i might distord the metal connector when plugin something in so i'll try to build a custom connector that will stay in and to resolder the other by some kind of way

(if some one knows of a 90 deg usb connector that would be sweet)

bad news my project also planed on using the same .....

any one know what is powering the alien head on the back pannel? cause the new owner has a project that could allow me to change the alien head at will and could be USB powered but if i could use the power that is used on this as it won't be needed anymore it would be even better

EDIT i found it back on that forum http://www.tech-forums.net/pc/f10/summer-project-fanbus-digital-pc-fan-led-system-231615/ let's just hope he will answer

its connected to usb power on the MB. as for the metal on the back cover the thickness is an issue, if you get it to thick it will look ridiculous and you will have to get longer screws. that s assuming you can even find something similar.

ALSO i still need a m17, someone who is not crazy please pm with an offer to sell if interested.

i won the one for $500, guess what? he said "oh i need to get more i want $1200 for it" people are WAY overvaluing a dead system imo, if it had x-fire wuxga, 4gb ram & a x9100 it would be worth 1200, but it has wxga+ single 3870, & p8400(lol) and 1gb of ram, $500 was a stretch if you ask me.

but regardless i need one so i was willing to overpay for the thing and now he wont sell it me. awsome ebay!

at this point i guess that the fact that i can run a quand and dual 4850 at the same time stable no stutering or anything won't help me get a better price -.-

well if you were to sell it with the 4850s then its worth more than a m17 with the 3870s, but the q9000 is worth less than a t9600 buy about $100. i suppose its worth whatever you want it to be, i think eventually you could sell it for what ever you wanted withing reason, ive seen old m7700s get $900 on ebay in the recent past. so i wouldn't think it impossible to get $1600 for your system if you were willing to wait...but the bare bones its self isn't worth any more than $700 imo, but then again i don't think your trying to sell it anyway so sorry for the de-rail =)

I call shotgun if you'll sell the 4850s on their own.

I own a system like the one that you said can go for $1200 (x9100, 4GB, 160HDD, 1980x1200 and xfire 3870).

I'm waiting for an extra bottom cover to mod it like DHC so if all goes well I'll be running a wee bit cooler and will also have an extra stock bottom.

LOL no i'm not selling until CES 2011 and by then my system will have a QX9300 a ssd 8gb of ram and 1tb raid so it beter get a decent price i won't strip that bayby apart LOL and won't let it be striped apart

(with a little luck it might comme with a home made version of alien FX and a back cover including fans ...... + 1 stock back cover in case i sreww up)

ihope a such build will be worth more then 1.6k by then if not well tobad i'll just keep it

EDIT i just found back the intel XTU program i had i'm experimenting with down clocking and undervolting ... it looks like our dear alien mother ship and zfactor over estimated the need for voltage i'm actualy down to 1.0875 from the 1.2 of z and the 1.1625 of AW and perfectly stable i'll tryh to push it farther down later

    EDIT2 : now down to 1 V

EDIT 3 i got into flashing my card lately and playing with the down clocking ... i also played with the over clocking i don't recal how far mandrake pushed his gpu mem but mine goes really far i also found that we can't set the 4850 clock to what the m17x 4870 clock is ment to be it just crash but you can go past it
    [IMG]

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

the peak is playing crysis at 40 FPS my cpu is also overclocked and undervolted sory z but it seem even with a 200 mhz overclock your voltage were still way to high

and as of yet i'm stil stutter and slow down free

Just got my bottom cover but it appears that alienware made some changes to it compared to the OCZ one. The screws are in different places and the vents are also different.

I got another idea though. I'll try to make the bottom cover completely out of mesh. I had a small piece lying around and the screws seem to fit and secure through it. If I can find a large enough piece I'll try both ways (DHC way and full mesh cover way).

Boot from mini PCIe SATA SSD in laptop - General-Storage - Storage

so here is the deal why we could not get our standar laptop to boot from pcie so it looks liek i'll have to wait until thr drives are availible

whoot 42c is the ambian temp here i'm so hapy i applyed thermal paste and did my undervolting experiment just in time my laptop is hovering his ambian temp only 8 deg higher then the ambian

once again can some one send me the voltage that the b14 bios suply to the CPU messed with it and i think i'm to far

EDIT i experimented with the m17 alienFX keyboard good news provided sone would be willing to (i'm with the dead one i have heheheh) we can mod the conector to plug into arduino and make it display any color we wan by mixing the values

just need to get the arduino nano board i ordered and the other RGB Dels i ordered to get the custom m17 alienFX project to work i'll write a nice and clean tutorial when it will be done as well as providing the software to make it work

I am going to use the M15x modified ones ... The M17 I have is being a real pain to get CCC to uninstall

I kid you not when it says

"the windows installer service could not be started becuase it was not installed correctly please try reinstalling it".
