yes the uninstall fails because the "install package failed" with 6 different driver versions.

That is not cool. You can try just deleting all the files and then run driver sweeper to knock out all the registries

The fact that you're getting errors with the windows installer service is a little more worrying imo. Last time I saw similar errors was because an operating system had been hammered by a virus and system files were corrupted.

Might be worth investigating that issue first; can you install stuff like Windows updates or MSI installer programmes properly outside of the ATI drivers.

the famous registry key issue .... try going to something like 10.3 it's the only one that installe with no issue and let you install a lower one like 9.9 or something

    Hi Moo,

    if you download all your mobile ATI drivers this way they work fine;

AMD Game Forums - ATI Catalyst 10.3 problem on MSI GT729

run that small Catalyst Mobility System Compatibility Utility and download it that way.
I dont know why this is the case but im sure someone here will enlighten us.

Hey how are you doing guys ;)

I just thought about a new driver and what do I find here, the right discussion :p

As a long long time ago ... I'll once again try a new one^^ The one I use at the moment (which one was it? xD) is a bit buggy (I am using 2 external Monitors, TV / Display in change) and since a update ... it got really crappy :(

Nice to see that the m17 Threads aren't dead, especially my one :p

    Greetings

That link downloads the utility that checks you aren't using a restricted system, and then downloads the 10.6 mobility driver.

If that one was no good for you, if you look around you should be able to find the 10.3/10.4/10.5 mobility drivers.

Usualy no i assumed that because the mobo detected the full charge status (the Button changes from oj to blue ) and the baterie stoped heating it was wisely enough designed to stop charging it at full charge to prevent overchargin

Hey guys, another m17 problem popped up and I wanted to check around here for any tips or guidance.

I just bought the g.skill 2x4gb ddr3 pc8500(1067MHz) 204 pin kits that were on newegg for $160, installing it as usual, like I did for my 2x2gb upgrade, when it stopped booting or going to post. Clearly a sign of some bad ram.

So, I checked the two chips individually, one chip (we'll call it Chip A) didn't work in either slot (meaning it didn't produce a successful boot), the other chip (Chip B) only worked in the bottom slot, but not by itself on the upper slot. I tried putting them both in two in the two different configurations (A-B, B-A), and again, no dice, won't make it to the POST... no video on the screen, no 'buzzing/beeping' motherboard like I'm used to with desktops though. (kinda wondering if there's a problem with ATI drivers that wouldn't let it boot, but it's not seeking the hard drive or anything to load vista x64, so I don't think it could be the video drivers).

Finally I thought to boot up the "working" chip, chip B in the bottom slot and then one of my old 2gb crucial ddr3 pc8500 (1067MHz) chips in the upper slot. It boots to vista x64, and I'm using it right now, but both the task manager and the system profile only registers 4gb of memory, rather than the 6 (the 1x4gb g.skill chip, and the 1x2gb crucial chip). Since their possibly "not matched," would that prohibit vista x64 or the bios from saying 6gb of ram?

All of this said. I'm running BIOS B10. Would an upgrade to say b14 solve anything? Any tips about what I should do? Should I just return the ram to newegg and get an exchange/refund?

Please advise as I leave the country in another two days and want to get this sorted asap!

    :::EDIT:::
updated my bios to b14, still same results, even with the mismatched ram (a 4gb chip and a 2gb chip, bios and windows still says only 4gb). Thinking about sending my ram back to newegg for a new matched set.

if it still does is on b14 try getting some new pair if it still fail your mobo might be defective

could the mobo be defective if it runs 4gb ram fine (2x2gb or one of the single 1x4gb chips)?

If your other 2 sticks work fine then your RAM is broken.

there is a very little chance that you could have a defective ram controler that fails to register more then 4gb of ram

but that is the last option so cheq the ram and there are still other options

you might need to force b14 to load factory setting so that it erase any part of b10 that might be left over

It should work, but as you noticed, it will be hard to mount. There are extenders you can buy to make a half card full length though. Also, I thought one of the 2 spots had a mid length mounting standoffs? Maybe I am wrong....have not been inside one of those in over a year now

Hey I've been having a strange issue on my m17 since the 9.12 catalyst drivers. 9.11 and previous are fine. When I close the lid on my laptop, and if it stays closed until the display would normally shut off, when I open the lid I will have a black screen with a mouse cursor. I checked and the display is actually turning off when the lid is closed. And the system is not frozen (a simple ctrl.alt.bingo fixes it). This has been on multiple installs of windows 7 x64, and has happened on EVERY ati driver since 9.11 like clockwork.

Btw. This has also happened on the zfactor and the b13/b14 bios and with and without overclocking. Also, I checked the card temps and they are not overheating at all.

an other work around is when it wakes back with a black screen press fn+f1 to send it back to sleep when you will wake it again it should work fine

I'm using 10.8 right now. If you read my post you would see that I said it happened on every driver since 9.11. 9.12, 10.1, 10.2, 10.3a/b, 10.4a/b, 10.5, 10.6, 10.7, and now 10.8.

You are right, i read it to fast as usual. Sorry about that.

If it worked prior 9.11 and all others fail then its a driver issue i suppose. They probably removed or forgot to add something after 9.11 drivers so you are having these problems.
Did you ask on AMD forums?

Unfortunatly i never closed my lid when the laptop was still on when i had my M17 otherwise i would know how mine reacted.

Lets hope there are some M17 users lurking around that could test how theirs work with 10.8.

    No worries DHC,

But anyways yes I did ask a long time ago when the issue first arose, but pretty much everyone is clueless to why this happens. I'm trying to find out if this is an m17 specific problem or if it's something that only happens on my machine

    Hi guys ;)

I just bought a Samsung 3D TV and this 3D is totaly new to me ...
My question is, can I use my M17 after upgrading with a BlueRay drive as a 3D BR Player? As far as I know you need HDMI 1.4a for 3D but I have no idea wheather the M17 is (after an update) capable of that.

    Thank for your help ;)

Hi Julian, as I remember HDMI 1.4 is slightly different to the older revisions, so no you wouldnt be able to use the M17 as a 3d player if 1.4 is prerequisite. Sorry.

yup that's what i've been doing lately

yup if you can make the tv accept a feed from hdmi and VGA at the same time

you would also need a software to output 3d the right way

depends on the componend inside but as of general rule it's a very capable system

if it got an extreme cpu and dual 4850 it can run everything on max minus dx11

    yep !

my friend had put in SSD 120G°, CPU QX9100 (3.06GHz),

I put you a simple presentation here.

the screen is not like the new R2, better to work out or in the garden :) , etc.

Just so you know the Q9100 (quad core @2.1Ghz IIRC) and X9100 (dual core @ 3.06) are different chips, given your clock speed you've got an X9100 (which is still a good chip). If you can find some 4850s though do so, they're about 20-30% faster in some cases at high settings and res compared to the 3870s you've got, they're really just downclocked 4870ms :)

    i'd go more toward 50-80%

and they can be clocked to 4870 clock no trouble
