give me the inf and try it. you may have to use the have disk method.

dondadah88: Can you be more specific? -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
here put these in your 10.1 folder here
you need to extract and replace the current ones.
10-1_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Driver\Packages\Drivers\Display\W76A_INF
and use the have disk method to install the drivers
download them here
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C5QGRRKL -
Ok, will try it but one more question - shall I use mobility modder or unpack, replace inf and install without using modder?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i already put the device id in there so you dont need the modder.
-
Thx, +1 rep
Today ATI gave us 10.2 drivers - will those .inf above work with 10.2 or not? -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
no. i will work oon it now and upload it give me 10min.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
here you go. will put in sig

Same method as above? 'Have disk'?
Oh, and which .inf shall I choose when pointing driver location? C7_* or CH_*? -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
yes use the have disk method.
ch for windows 7. i put both in them so they might both install but use ch for win7. i'm 10000 percent sure about that. -
I use x64 Vista, hope CH will work as well
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
if it doesn't try c7. i'm using 7 so i know that ch will work.
-
anyone know if the m17x keyboard will work on the m17? i found one cheap and i like the lights on that one a lil better...
+1 rep to Don, +500 points in 3dmark06 just switching the drivers used the c7 version, wonder if it matters?
Win 7 ultimate..... -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i guess it doesn't matter. i used ch and it worked fine for me but so far no performance. (just started testing)
no the m17x keyboard wont work for the m17. -
Nice work Don
I'll give the full version a shot
Greetings
Julian
Edit: I am a bit confused ... the ATI dl for 10.2 is bigger than your "Ati 10.2 x64 Win7/Vista support for 3-series, 4-series, and 5870"
Edit^2: after a black screen and a repoot ... nice10.2

julian-nold: you used 'have disk' method? If yes - you choose CH or C7 .in file when asked for? I`m asking for installing it on Vista x64.
And second question - you simply update drivers or go all the way around (safe mode, driver sweeping, rebtoot, instaling new drivers)? -
I made the have disk method and ... long time ago ... I made clean installs ... but now^^ in times of no time
(can I say that?) I only ran the HDM ... has to be enought
(and I took ch for W7 as Don toled us^^)

heres my 3dmark06 with only oc the cpu to 2.87, no gpu tweak at all.
better than the run i did with the gpu @700 & 975 & the cpu @2.96 =)
edit just ran the cards @ 700&1000 and only got 13341, shouldnt i get a hell of alot more with the 3870s oc? or is the cpu limiting me? -
I hope Crysis gains from 10.2
Greetings

Installed new driver, got Windows BSOD :/
But then restarted, new driver installed and everything seems to be fine. We`ll see.
Now I have to install ccc, cause for ME2 I must force hardware AA. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
clever. Your cpu is holding you back.
if I wasn't goingto try to get as much for my machije I would sell your my quad. -
what kind of gains can i expect to see with a Qx9300?how about a T9900.....i never knew trying to bench would be so addictive
-
TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
The T9900 is probably the best CPU that your laptop can have. Some performance as an X9100, but I've heard it runs cooler.
Both times I had a quad core in your laptop, it stuttered like an SOB.
There is absolutely NO real world difference in performance between a T9900/X9100 and a Quad. I did extensive testing with that laptop.
The only place you'll see a significant gain between a dual core and a quad core is in synthetic benchmarks. Your CPU score will double with a quad. -
i dont suppose dropping $500 to test it out would be entirely intelligent =).....so wheres the bottle neck then, just in the Clock speed? i get BSOD anytime i go above 2.94 on Setfsb, im nervous about using XTU, but i was told its quite a bit more stable....i want to get as much out of this thing as i can with the 3870s before i dump more money into the 4850's as im likely to hit a wife induced brick wall soon
turbo what were you using to get your 3mark so high? -
im about to install my SSD, is there anything i need to do to get this off the ground correctly? or just follow the driver install sequence in the first page. and how do i check to make sure the SSD is performing optimally?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
XTU would easily give you the best OC when paired with zfactors .29 BIOS as it allows you to tweak the cpu core voltage
the T9900 should be able to get upto around 3.8 or 3.9 with the right cooling (e-wrecked had an x9100 at 3.9) in this notebook, same for a qx9300 (as mandrake showed)
Being able to up the voltage is a godsend for you guys....I would LOVE to be able to do that in my M17x -
TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
I was running an OEM QX9300 OC'd to like 3.2Ghz with XTU, and the cards were OC'd too.
Take it from someone who's slapped down the cash just to up my synthetic benchmark scores...DON'T DO IT. The quad will stutter, and you'll be pissed off. Get an X9100 or a T9900 and just enjoy that machine man. The X9100, T9900, and QX9300 all offer the same in-game performance, which is really all that matters.
As far as checking your SSD's performance, there's the program that I installed on your laptop called HDTach. It needs a bit of coaxing to run on Windows 7, but after that it works fine. You're obviously going to have to download it again if you're reformatting. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
HDTune runs just fine in windows 7 as well
-
TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
Yeah, if HDTune runs without setting up compatibility mode, use that.
-
yeah im working on a T9900 right now, hopefully that works out, i like that the T9900 runs a bit cooler, as i have this thing on my lap alot when i actually play games. i agree in game performance is paramount, i just like the idea of being able to squeeze as much as i can out of machines...but i plan on keeping this computer for a long time( in computer years anyway) its pretty much everything i wanted, play games in 35-40fps range upgrade ability, pretty decent support( from others not alienware) and familiarity... i want to try and get it up into the 17k range with the t9900 then ill probably quit pushing it....
FWIW, the heat difference alone is worth spending $170 on a ssd if you have dual HDD slots, it went from having to hold it up in the air every 15 mins to barely noticeable. the seagate drives were hot, my WD 320gb drive doesnt get to hot since its only used to store games & music on took the overall heat down quite a bit. -
2002_Viper_GTS_ACR Notebook Evangelist
t9900 hands down. I've been impressed with it in this last 24 hours that I have owned it. got get yourself one. the x9100 is old news
t9900 oc'd like a champ too just using setfsb. I need to get off my butt and finally do the zfactor bios. *edit* DONE! Now I need to start oc'ing it a bit

Nice Rig Jon but only 2GB of ram?
The 2GB slow you down :weird:

lol. Thanks Julian. If you look at another post there is some drama around the other 2gigs I bought from a person on here. It didn't work out that well, so I am going to order the 2nd 2 gigs from Alienware. Soon enough I will have 4 gigs!
Jon -
Alienware charge double.....buy the other 2gigs from one of those big US stores that all the other guys use...cant remember the name but its half the price and is good RAM.

Good to see everyone still fighting the good fight with the M17
Dependant on what happens my X9100 might be going on the market in a few weeks, if I do I'll give people around here first dibs, it's still a good CPU (plus this one happily bumps to over 3.3Ghz without touching voltage or FSB and just bumping the multiplier)!
Also, rather than those 10.2s, try out the 10.3 betas. Most people seem to like em and they have mobility 3870 and 4850 support built right in so no need for modding the install, or install from disc etc, just clean and plain ATI setup
I really liked my 4850 equipped M17, if it hadn't died, I'd still be using it happily -
Lemme know when you are gonna throw your X9100 up for sale Alex
.

I think the one year warenty expires soon and now I am not sure wheather I shoud send it back to them because the "plastic" over the hindge and the power putton is loos and I can press it down a little ...
... and than I could ask them politely for the 4850s
Greetings

Will do mate, I've got to wait and see what happens yet though, so Im not guaranteeing its going to be sold -

does anyone have the link for the XTU utility, Mandrake gave it to me but i deleted the Pm by mistake and id rather not have to ask him again......thanks!

To cleverpseudonym,
You asked about the qx9300
This is my QX9300 o/c to 3.06 in Zd's .29 bios with stock ati drivers mob modded, 9.1 if I remember right.
Do you guys see anything to worry about there, temps wise? I've not reapplied any paste and do not use a laptop cooler.
Oh and since I went to zd's bios i've had zero stuttering
I've not done the copper mod.Attached Files:

TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
If you're going to be OCing that quad half a gig over stock, redo the thermal paste and get a notebook cooler. 3Dmark'06 isn't very taxing, and the M17 has modest cooling ability. If you're playing a game with more demanding graphics, those numbers, especially the northbridge, will sky-rocket.
-
2002_Viper_GTS_ACR Notebook Evangelist
Is TZ00 really the northbridge temp?
-
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
Yep it is, it gets damned toasty in the M17, I lost count of the times I reseated the heatsink and replaced thermal materials and pads trying to get best contact between the heatsink and the CPU/Cooler.
At one point there was more blue additional heatsink covering the heatpipes than was in the machine as default almost
At one point when the contact was poor, my northbridge hit over 100 degrees when the CPU was stressed...I soon shut down and reseated about another 6 times after that.
I've still got half the heatsinks and bits and pieces just in case I ever needed them again, but luckily the Clevo I have now seems much better designed when it comes to cooling (my load temps are almost 10 degrees lower than the peak M17 temperature was).
Running the X9100 overclocked 24/7 and testing the 4850s overclocked sure pushed the cooling boundaries on the machine. Unfortunately, and ironically, my machine died at stock clocks a few weeks later and then AW messed me around big time over a period of almost 8 weeks, which is why I no longer have an AW machine. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
The clevo cooling is something I somewhat envy.....especially that of the D900 series
The CPU cooling on the m980nu was not as beefy as I would hope after seeing the D901c cooling, but guess it is not horrible -
am i doing something wrong here?
XTU says its OC but Cpuz doesnt recognize it. do i need to change the multiplier in the bios as well?
EDIT: the bios shows the muliplier changed to 11 already. so is something else the issue? i am using the .29 bios, confirmed by Turboedtalon, so i should be able to use this right? -
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
The X8100 internals and cooling have also apparently been revamped since the M980NU. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
With non extreme cpus you can only change the front side bus and voltage -
TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
^Right. That's why I prefer the X9100 over the T9900. Runs hotter, but I can overclock it.
Clever, you can still change the FSB to overclock just like with SetFSB. I think anyway.
