for anyone looking at getting a solid deal on a new M17, check out the Alienware eBay outlet store
they have a decent sale today when combined with Bing CashBack

did you get one?
-
my m17 only worth £600 pounds jeees
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Na, I am going to just get an M11x for classes and travel and keep my M17x as my "desktop" lol
-
I don't see any M17 in the outlet.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
then you did not look very hard...not I said the ebay store not dell outlet

8700GT Santa Rosa based systems for $1400. That's probably twice the value.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
well there is a reason I was only pointing people to the M17 Mandrake lol
-
I know but I was pointing out obvious flaws in their "sale".
-
Yeah this machine seems to be a solid build and awesome performance, is bing doing anymore cashbacks this weekend? The alienware series aren't bad just really expensive but what sucks is the fact you can't get a decent warranty with their outlet store its quite wrong that you spend all that money and if anything happens hardware products are very very expensive.

<-------Soon to be new M17 Owner..Woot!

You will like it, congrats
-
How much would dell charge me for 4850's? how good are 4850's compared to the 4870s? Can i get an extended warranty for like a year or so? Also do i have the same options as to have 16 different colors as other machines or do I have to hack something? Also why aren't there any original m17x owners around?
-
Are you talking about the M17x or the M17 now?
The 4850's are difficult to get from Dell, good luck if you try, i gave up at some point and got them off ebay.
They will probably chage you around 500-600 US dollars for the master and slave IF you can get them.
4870's dont work in the M17, and your warrenty extension is not going to happen as the M17 laptops is end of life.
I am an orginal M17 owner.
-
anyone know if these would work in the M17 if i deceided to get crazy?
http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Alienware-m...ItemQQptZLaptop_Batteries?hash=item23051f1bd3 -
-
these are the 4870 for the m17x they wont work in the m17
-
so just the ever elusive 4850's that will work
-
Yes it has almost the same specs as 4870 though. 4870 is just clocked slightly higher
-
Yes i was talking about the M17, do you ever think there will be a m17 newer machine, for something cheaper, i mean the m15x is kinda cheap but its really crap in my opinion. Like instead of a 1 gig cross fire have a 512mb cross fire just like this machine was and others, nothing wrong about those.

<----just got my M17 10 mins ago!!!!!.....i feel like a child but, damn these things are sexy!!!!!!
ok, this has the .29 bios installed, how do i enter the bios, cause it goes str8 to the windows boot screen, which key do i hold down or press as it comes on.....
thanks! -
I believe it was F2
.
Congrats with the system! -
any reason the mulitiplier wouldnt apply its self to the cpu? i changed it in the bios, but it still reads the stock #s in everest & cpu-z..any thoughts?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
the multiplier only actual changes something if you have an extreme cpu installed
otherwise you can change it in the bios but it will not have any effect -
i thought that the .29 bios allowed for oc'ing for regular cpu's...maybe i thought wrong? the cpu i have is a "es" so maybe thats why?
-
infact I think the new bios only allowes you to oc Exteem CPUs^^
Greetings
Julian -
so can i change the back light on the keybaord or does it stay red?
thanks! -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
that means you will be able to use the intel XTU and adjust the fsb and voltage
the multiplier is hardwired into the CPU chip and cannot be changed via bios except for the extreme models -
If you want to change the backlit feyboard press FN and F10 to cycle throught the 3 colours.....green is the brightest by far IMHO.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I agree, green was easily the brightest
-
Agree too, blue is the dimmest and its like you never turned on anything. Only QX9300 and X9100 and Q9200 will be affected by the BIOS multiplier settings IMHO
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
When I got my M17x itw as really like night and day difference in backlights haha
-
Ya I can see that on picture. No idea why the light in m17 is so dim.

i miss mines. -
but a am i to understand that i can use the XTU program to overclock then? is this better than setFSB then? the setFSB auto tool works decent but i seem to hit a stability wall around 2.87-2.90..so i wonder if Xtu would be a better solution?
BTW the Green is by far the brightest on the Keyboard..thanks!!!!!!! -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
xtu is more stable then setfsb and you can also control the voltages in it.
-
does anyone have a link to download the Intel XTU? -
The sooner you slap in a SSD and extreme processor the better......it really improved the performance of my M17.
Im sure you will get some extra juice from the OC though.....good luck and enjoy. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i hit 3.125 stable with that t9300 and 3.212 for benchmarking perfectly fine.
-
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i don't get what you mean????
ok i think i know what you mean. the t9400 isn't worth it over the t9300. matter fact the t9300 is a better cpu then the t9400. -
thanks -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i would try both but i would bet the t9300 is better is cooling, tdp, and speed.
-
i ran the t9300 overclocked to the same speed and got 12134. i lol'd
i cant get anymore out of the t9400, but was able to get a decent 13983, with the t9300 at 3.15, & the 3870s at 700&1000 =) -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
that's because of the e0 vs c0 stepping and that's a really good t9300.
also you have to consider the fsb vs multiplier.
the t9300 is 12.5 and 800mhz
the t9400 is 9.5 and 1066mhz
the chipset is only recommend to handle a max of 1333mhz
when stock you sshould see the t9400 at higher temps becasue of the higher fsb.
when you pump up the fsb you should see the t9300 getting to the stock t9400 of 1066. (1000mhz=3.125ghz and 1066=3.33ghz)
compared to the t9400(i never overclocked my t9400 when i had it)
you should also know that they are the same cpu's intel made just change the stepping to the final one(e0) lowered the multiplier and up'd the fsb... that's why you may get around the limits when you overclock....
if you run both at stock the t9400 should out perform the t9300 by a hair -

Sorry, wrong thread.

hey you can't post and delete. Now I need to know what you said.
-
Has anyone tried and succeeded instaling and using 10.1 catalyst drivers on M17 with two 3870`s in CrossFire?
-
nope failed when installing it. Anyone know how to install the newest desktop driver from mobility modder because currently the mobility modder isn't working.
