Hi all! I wanted to start a M17 Over-clocking and Benchmarking thread. Since I wasn't an M17 owner when it first came out and I know I'm behind the times. Figured I'd start now.
Here's my first attempt at 3DMark06 with my Quad OC'ed and my GPU's stock.

So far my highest OC.

M17 owners please join in!

XMP profile works with the M17 and the Intel bios.
-
Less than 2k away from the m17x!!?? I wonder if.. noooo
-
Another screen shot. If I had the 4850s I would be able to challenge the M17x with this system.

woot it's about time
hum grrrrrrrrrrrrrr 3dm06 is purely a cpu bench
here go my bench at stock speed
@2100
@2200
@2300
each bump of 100 mhz make my score go up of about 500 pts.....
i definitly need to get a qx9300 asap if i wan to show anything in that bench cause my q9000 bsod after 2355 -
Nice. I've been doing 3DMark06 because I've been playing with CPU OC'ing. When it's time to OC the GPUs I will start working with Vantage.
-
Here's mine running at 3.06GHZ QX9300 with ATI Radeon 4850 Crossfire Enabled.

Mandrake, how did you make your temperature so low? in case you dint see my post.

I will be frequenting this thread
The M17 can stomp the M17x in 06....ATI cards just destroy nvidia ones in it - nevermind the better overclocking! Vantage is a whole other story though lol -
Nice scores.
Not to hijack your thread or anything but let me sneak in a question. Mandrake, is your M17 OK after coming back from sleep mode or it lags?
Sleep mode was a problem before and I'm wondering if that is still the case. -
I wish you had the 4850's Mandrake

he would not be doing anything you could not do yourself Maxiumus

stock gpu's overclocked cpu's.
-
-
nice mandrake you brought the pride of m17
I will post my score with a Q9200 and single 4850 later for reference. University final exams are killing me arghhh~ -
-
does the same thing
with my cooler on full blast my gpu's never hit past 82-86, 86 being the absolute max (like crysis or something)
Oh and I have lots of copper ramsinks all over the gpu sink -
I just finished adding some ramsinks to my cpu heatsink and added a copper shim to my NB. Don't know if it helps yet.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
aren't you suppose to be sleeping?
-
It's Friday, I can sleep in!
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
oh oh lol.
well i have some old out dated runs from my whitebook and my qx9300 was only at 3.2ghz but i will still put them up. -
Do you remember your temps pre and post copper mod?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
no. it should not change. it was to help stuttering not heat
-
Stuttering hasn't been an issue until I OC the GPUs.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
what program you used to overclock and what have you overclocked to?
-
-
gputool and I've been trying all kinds of settings.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
it's the way how the quad sits on the heatsink not letting proper contact on the northbridge.
mandrake you need to put cooler heatsinks on the gpu where the memory is.... -

like this

that actually quad's machine which will be for sell shortly if not already
was originall HaloGod007's -
I need to get lower profile ramsinks. I was clipping the ones I had just to fit.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
ya, they are snug
The kingston ones are snug in my M17x, just the way it is -
Do you know what brand is in the pic?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
the ram sinks?
sunbeam tech i think, the only ones you can get just about for so-dimm's
here is the newegg link:

you would need to order a kit per stick -
No, that I have already. I'm talking about the little heatsinks on the GPU.
BTW, tighter memory timings = increased stuttering. -
Take a look at this. Temps too hot for idle?

well here is everything I have to play around with for cooling:
And here is what can be done with all that, some ideas I had and some things other people actually did
The one at the end was my proposed plan of action before I just sold my whitebook. Still have all the sinks though -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Just run it on cryo with cover off and it should be fine
And sorry for all my pictures being huge...need to scale them down I guess -
Yeah but now I'm getting stuttering without OC'ing the GPUs.
-
it's 10 deg higher then runing with the back pannel and the crappy things that cut the airflow
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
the stutter in the whitebook had nothing to do with OC's, it just happened period when there was a quad installed
-
yeah but is it too high for 3.6Ghz?
-
I think Intel was right about 3.7Ghz.

nice what is the highest ever reached in the m17X

I'd like to contribute this to show there was some fire in the M17.
This *beats pretty much any M17x or M980NU at stock speeds*, and I only had a dual core model.
Oh...I had no stuttering though
Wish I could use Intel XTU. Control like that is about the only thing the M980NU lacks. -
You actually managed to push a QX9300 to 3.7GHz? Jesus christ, that's bloody amazing. You must have got a really good chip...perhaps the ones Intel themselves hit 3.7GHz with
Can you actually stress it at that however without it overheating and/or crashing?
