if your stable for an hour...then your pretty much stable (max problem size only or 95 percent max & and of course..max ram).. that's coming from most of the experts on the subject (not me...not an expert..just really started messing with this linpack stability stuff)

and have failed in the last 5 minutes and a few times in the last 5 seconds!
so not sure what that says about it all...last 5 seconds....
what happens if i let it do an extra pass on one of my successful runs and it crashes...grrrrrrrr...is deff not the expert here...lol

I'm pretty sure if you use Intel Burn Test, in 64 bit mode, and set it to use maximum available memory it automatically configures it to the maximum available problem size.

IBT is basically a much easier GUI for linpack, takes a lot of the work out of using it :)

With IBT I tend to find that scaling the stress levels is a good way of testing (5 test run under standard settings, then go to max afterwards, and after 5 run max, I can set it to run for say 10-20 runs if I want extra confirmation)

One of the reasons I recommend it, but also recommend watching the temps, it really does burn compared to most of the other stress tests :)

just found out...doesn't matter if it's 64 or 32 bit..just use max problem size.
and linpack 6.3 or 6.4 is gui. hit max memory and run with it.

it will heat a cpu up fast...this is true..but it will also heat up your ram. which is where you will get errors and think it's the cpu. has to do with raising the fsb...

    (just more information is all)

which xtu are you using Mandrake?

I tried using the one from the link I posted earlier but I was getting some really bad stuttering once I installed it, the mouse was lagging and lots of other issues, as soon as I uninstalled it those problems went away.

can you post a link to whatever one you use?

Also what bios are you using? Zfactor .28?

pretty good for an oc'ing noob eh? :)

    stable w/ & w/out my Cryo

Is my 1066 ram the only thing holding me back? my temps dont get past 80C. It wont even boot at 13.5x and 276mhz is the highest HCF I can push before it becomes unstable.

also I set the voltage to the max that the x9100 is spec'd to operate at, I'm too much of a wuss to push it further because I don't really know what I'm doing when it comes to voltage.

Any tips would be helpful, especially regarding my ram bottleneck theory

probably the .28 bios because Intel XTU doesnt work with Alienware BIOS which locked the multiplier. I've tried it

Your ram isn't holding you back unless you are specifically trying to get tighter timings. It's the voltage that is holding you back. I'm a little more loose with mine since I have a 2 year warranty on the processor but if you monitor your temps you should be OK. Try up to 1.35, you saw on mine I went over 1.4 to get 4Ghz. If my T9900 would let me change the voltage I would try it for you. I do like the fact I can run 3.5Ghz without worrying about cooling.

I got my X9100 up to 3.7Ghz with a combination of multiplier and FSB. I clicked off a 3DMark '06 run with that and a 50Mhz OC on my GPUs. It was lower than a 3.46Ghz run I had done previously that day.

BTW Mandrake, what did your M17 bench at 4Ghz?

The only thing I tried at 4Ghz was SuperPi. I only have the 3.8Ghz '06 run. I haven't been motivated to try to get it further because whenever I OC the 3870s the stuttering starts.

can go as far as the physical hardware will allow. its not the bios that makes the limit its the hardware. as long as you dont start going up over 1.35 max you should be fine

was talking about the gpu voltage..

and you can go above the 1.35 as long as you can keep the chip in a reasonable cool temp area.

you cant directly from the bios you need the xtu utility from intel. the voltage is auto adjusted in the bios as you overclock with a cap at 1.34x with the .28 version. the version mandrake has no limit on the voltage in the bios

.28 had a limit board wise though no matter what it said you may have increased it some but it was prob not as accurate a reading as it could be. now the board limit is pulled i figured out how to pull it out i was waiting to get .29 though
