M17 OC Benchmarking - The Next Generation!

i realy got to thank you mandrake the m17 resale value must have gonne all the way up and all the fools selling it for no reason got for thier money LOOOOOOLLLLL

 

Let's not get too excited here, gents. With the 3870s, the M17 is still showing it's age. For anyone lucky enough to have 4850s and a QX9300, not so much. What kind of numbers is the 17x putting down with 4870s and a QX9300?

 

13k all around in vantage and can hit 14 on the gu

 

Man. Although I love them, these 3870s are TURDS. I really hope Alienware will sell me some 4850s when I've saved all my pennies.

 

Mandrake already hit 14k+ with his T9900 today with driver Ati 9.12. He will bench with the QX9300 tommorrow.

His next goal is 15K

 

I may have to just abandon this whole M17 thing and work on getting 4870s...!

Starting to look like it may be easier....

Well the M17 is a fun system and all....but while waiting to get paid for my desktop all the M17's in the world worth buying are disappearing

mandrake beat my farcry2 run on my whitebook. my m17x has a higher score but do the whietbook first.

that's my whitebook. do you want to see my allpowerful run? it's overclocked cpu to 2.93 and stock gpu. it beat my whitebook by a good amount...
my whitebook cpu is at 3.2ghz

 

funny nothing!..didn't they try to slide the w90 up in there for 3dmark??? i couldn't find it..but they had did something with that notebook and kinc...maybe it got retracted because it couldn't readily be reproduced by the rest of the world.

evga has the best rma in the world!.. i would rather have an evga card than one of these others....so i have held off for a bit...

Just finished installing them but my M17x is all apart. Gotta go put that together.

 

so the m17x is quad
and the m17 is dual with 4850's

No what happened was this morning I swapped procs. The M17x had the quad and the M17 had the dual. I was running out the door to go out and the fedex man showed up, almost missed him. Went out with the family and when I got back home I swapped procs again and installed the 4850s. Right now the M17 has the QX9300 with the 4850s in it. Packing stuff up to bring the party outside.

 

nice. i'll be watching the turn out.

i'll be over in the m17x section which is dead and throw up some fc2 runs. i'm trying to reach some high numbers. i think i can do it.

trying to get the gt 240 record right now. while i have this card. trying to get them to start a laptop database...but it doesn't seem to be going over well....

took the 250 back when i got my 5970, but found i needed another card to run physx...so i decided to grab the 240 because it was gddr5 memory@96 shaders

 

I'm going to do a 3dmark06 run at the 4870 speeds.

Edit: The CPU side of the test is going sloooooow. Must have forgotten something.

Edit: SM2 was 6775 and SM3 was 8500. CPU was sub 2K...gotta see what I did wrong there.

 

it could be that it is sucking more power then the psu can manage. i assume. but try again. you can do it.

 

I've seen it do that before. If I actually took notes I would have these issues.

Or micro stuttering problem affects the CPU score too. Happened in my X9100 ES.

 

Could be but I can always disable that.

 

Have people flashed these cards? It's getting annoying that I have to reset the speed everytime I reboot.

i'm overclock cpu and stock gpu. I am playing ninja blade at the moment. As soon as I finish the level. I will go at it. A level can take up to an hour so I don't want to exit out of it now.

no. This game I a mix of dmc, god of war, and ninja gaiden all in one. I love games where you can use all your attacks and so many different combos without pausing.

 

I tried to flash my 3870s a LONG time ago. I dumped each of their BIOSs and modified them for higher voltage and clock. When I was trying to flash them back to the GPUs, it halted and told me wrong BIOS. That's as far as I ever got. At the time nobody was OCing this system, and no one even knew what the hell I was talking about to give me any help.

Mandrake, are you not getting the numbers you expected out of the 4850s then?

 

GPU numbers are great. Right now I'm hovering around 4K on the CPU score which sucks for the OC I have. Getting there slowly. It's like playing with a new system all over again.

 

OK, hopefully it's straighten out now. GPU's are stock here.

 

Where did you get 4850s? I've been looking for some for a project I'm starting soon...

 

Alienware, called tech support and told them I wanted to upgrade and they sold them to me.
