Hi all, I am starting a thread with the qx9300 in our systems. first off all, i would like to say currently, this is the only notebook that this cpu can be most stable.

if we all can post our issue's and any solutions that we can come up with will be helpful to us all.

right now some of us or waiting for bios flash for the M17 or the Ocz whitebook. To see if this solves the problems.
most people think and hope it was just a voltage problem between the board, hdd, gpu's, and cpu.

the highest i can overclock to right now is 3.2ghz @1333fsb(chipset limited to 1066.)
    my issues are:
    Very laggy mouse
    Stuttering Issues in games
alot more but i cant name it.
if we can name all of our problems that would be great.

    update: 04/23/09
Notes: the issue is still going on but we found out that the mouse driver is one of the problems.

    1. MOUSE. if you have a m17 or if you have the ocz take off the synaptics driver and leave it or install the newest one from there website. i found that not messing with it at all is the best solution. others liked the new one from there website.
    http://www.synaptics.com/support/drivers

    2. VOLTAGE also the cpu isn't getting enough volts. i tried to unclock it at high settings and i bluescreened. so i found that not using rmclock and/or cpuid was the best solution.

    update: 5/3/2009
Note: it seems that almost any and everything you do is a temp fix. but some more users have reported that the issue is less and less. many users have reposted that the issue is fixed but not sure how. me on the other hand havent found anything to completely solve it.

3 CHIPSET: download the lastest chipset from intel. as we know(should know) our northbrigde is the PM95 and the southbrigde is ICHM???(i'm to speak LOL.) but after i installed this, it helped with stability. remember (before anyone gets on my case) i did a fresh install(Windows7) and as i install i am looking for anything that helps the system with this stuttering to see if it a driver/hardware problem.basically it updated my PCI-e slots(gpu's) usbs e-sata port and alot more which made my stutter at a minunmin. you can get it here: http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-029319.htm

any questions posts or pm. i would rather a post so we all can learn. i don't have enough time on my hands and this is my main computer so sometimes. i like to just chill other wise i would install xp and vista on it as well.

if someone has any of these OS's and think that it would help alot if i(or someone else) were to try it to, then i will try my best to what i can.

    UPDATE 5-14-09
THE ISSUE HAS BEEN SOLVED. IT APPEARS THE NORTHBRIDGE HEATING UP IS WHAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM. IT ONLY AFFECTED QUAD CORE BECAUSE OF THE HEAT IT DREW. MOST DID A COPPER MOD TO IT AND IT WAS RESOLVED. WE ARE GOING TO COME UP WITH THE EASIEST AND MOST SAFTIEST WAY TO DO THIS SO EVERYONE CAN ENJOY THERE SYSTEMS.

right now since there isn't any more stuttering we started a new thread were we are working on cooling
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=381296

    Update 5-20-09
this issue has been around before alienware signed the contract with flex. it started with the ocz whitebook when they had the contract with arima(bought by flextronics) in november. i got my notebook i think in early march or feb.(i have to look on the receipt) and got the quad a month later and the issue was never resolved. and this issue won't be resolved unless a new heatsink is issued out to all of us.

see the thing is the quad core is really to dual cores and therefore is bigger then the dual cores. so when replacing or adding or putting in a quad inside this notebook, the northbrigde heatsink shifts and it doesn't touch the northbrigde all the way. thus having the stutter we have/had on our notebooks because it renders the northbrigde and the whole computer unstable as we notice.

this is where the copper mod comes to play. this mod completely covers the northbridges die and when the heatsinks is placed on top it fully extracts the heat from the northbrigde. this results in performance increase and system stablility.

    UPDATE 6-17-09
    thanks marvie

so as posted above, alienware came out with a new bios that was suppose to fix the stuttering. many have tried it but there computer still contunied to stutter.

i can say that it is a hardware problem and software will not fix this.
    i will try to updates.

however if you still experience some stuttering you can feel free to post and we will try to help you. :)

Hi .. Like this thread =)

So my issues I have had since I install my Qx9300 has been 3DMark06 lagg, and choppy sound in windows and playing mp3's in winamp for example..and youtube.. even sleepmode issue .. But after I install the Realtek r219 drivers and qx9300 0.28 quad bios patch the problem with sound is gone .. for now at least ;) . But I still have problems with 3DMark06, must run the cpu test before I can run a full test smooth, which I think is very disturbing And just now i'm running my cpu at 11.5 multiple 3.0ghz..
After i install the microsoft Hotfix for 3870 my windows runs a litle bitmore stable i think .. Don't know if I just imagining  , or if they really work? but still have the issue with 3dmark06 :( Does someone else have tested 3870 fixes with any luck?

    Sorry for some bad english..

i can promise you the sound issue is not only releated to the qx9300. i have seen it with many core 2 chips as well including the t9400 and t9800 among others. for me a reinstall of vista fixed the choppy audio and still not sure why

wel there is a couple you can try the aleinware's one. or you can use ocz's one with unlocks multiplies but voids warranty or you can use someone on the forum's modded bios named zfactor. his seems to be the most stable out of all. which one you prefer.

yeap issue here with 3dmark06 droping frames.....and some games that have heavy use of both gpu and cpu...like GTA4...i drop to single GPU performance....im assuming both gpu's and cpu's dont get enough power when all under load....my question is..whats taking ocz so long to come out with .29 bios? obviously we need more juice to run a a quad and two 3870's

hmmmmm i never had dips in farcry 2 unless i was shooting like crazy with many characters on the screen.....ive notice sometimes though that it will look like vsync has stopped working and page tearing occurs......even though its still capped at 60 fps....very strange...alt tabbing fixes it.....i got nasty dips in gears of war whenever i would shoot...something that should not happen ever on this notebook.....obviously gpus are not getting fed the current they need cuz the monstrous qx9300 hogs it all

Do these problems present themselves when running both the CPU and GPU at stock speeds?

At what point do these problems manifest? During which OC? CPU? GPU? Both?

happens during any OC...and gpu for me are always stock.....i never had the issues on the alienware bios but then again i had the t9400 on that bios.....3dmark06 scores for me would be 14k...then 16k...then 15k.....sometimes it works sometimes no....ive tried everything software related to fix it and nothing....ive tried cooler temps...nothing

ok i will do. thanks zfactor.

also my gpu's are stock. i will try cpu stock now and tell you my 3dmarks scores.
also we can try dmc4 which is a very dependant gpu game. it doesnt matter the the cpu speed or how many cores i use(dual and quad) it barely changes.
i cant think of a cpu denpendant game only wic but that is not quad core optimized.
and i know that stalker clear sky will kill any system. any ideas guys?

    i think i found the issue/temp fix:
to test it out i did it on 3dmark06 and got ZERO frame drops and scored 16.1k again 4 times in a row. Before opening 3dmark06, right click the icon, go to general tab, then advanced, then UNCHECK the box labeled, "index this file for faster searching"...then start up 3dmark06 from the exe u just changed and u should be good....maybe this will apply to games to

EDIT: nevermind i got the issues again after disabling search index in vista.....the problem goes on....

I had also those problems with my q9100 quad, atm i think i fix them somehow, but i dont know exactly which modification fixed them.

    what did i do ;

1- updated drivers (all of them)
    2- no sleep at all
    3- vista 64
    4- disabled powerplay in ccc
5- changed bios to ocz then again flashed aw
    6- disabled aero
7- made all the things on that post : http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/fo...ad.php?t=47212
8- using windows standart mouse theme (not aero or etc)
    9- updated vista
    10- hotfix from microsoft ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=367742)
    11- no hibernation
    12- no restore point
    13- no paging file
    14- no indexing
    15- no prefetch

after all those modifications i am ok. before this mods vista 64 used 1.3gb ram but now only 897mb .. it is fast and stable.

after that modifications i run 3dmark06 8 times w/o no waiting time and no problem at all.

mouse lag is gone sound lag gone video lag gone.

wow shadow shuttering is gone, swg is working well.. if you want me to test another games please write.

    QX9300 - 73c (highest core) 70c (lowest core)
    3870 - 89c and 88c

thanks kanuni. can you try fc2 benchmark and tell us what you get and how it looks.

@CHEFCHENKO. our cpu and chipset is fine. just try not to pass 80-85. i can help you lower your idle alot more. but you need to tell me what you did so far. and what your idle is at now.

your gpu''s are alittle hot but that is what everyone is getting also. mines are at 86 i hit 92 once, but i am looking for a mod for that. i will post when i find it.

dondadah88 -thanks for the reply, not really experienced with the whole OC'ing thing but when you have teh ability and some time on your hands... well it would be a shame not to try hey!

I think my min temps are ok... i didnt express myself clearly in teh previous post... the lower end of teh temps i gave were for the lower end of the highest temps i saw across the various cores and GPUS.

my idle temps for the CPU are 49-51c and for GPU 51-53c

playing COD4 right now and max temp was 83c on GPU... dont think i'll venture into the GPU OC'ing to keep temps in line (ish).

    cheers for your help

take off you cover and what is your max temps then.

and you can take off the cloth where your gpu fan is to allow more air flow. this helped me alot. of course you need to put something at the bottom so more high can be sucked in. this however will make more dust come into your system. but when i looked there was dust in it already. so i will by some airblower thing and every month i will blow it out.
