I have no idea what to do - I try WinXP, Win Vista SP1 x64, Win 7 Ultimate x64, uninstall Bluetooth, uninstall CPU, disable CrossFire, new drivers audio, vga etc., flashing zfactor .28 BIOS, naked dancing around notebook but my DPC is still terrible

That is indeed pretty bad...worse than most of the M17x owners even. Make it Dell's problem, get your system replaced with another M17 or an M17x

Do not settle for a motherboard swap or something like that (and the fact you got 4850s could probably get you 4870s in the M17x haha - ATI to ATI)

This is the price Dell gets to pay for phasing out hte M17 so quickly

I've only seen M1730s getting replaced with M17x. Have they been doing the same thing with the M17?

    what bios, os
    are you runing ATM
i gues you haven't reinstalled alienware software

    what is you wireless card

i agree that dancing naked around the notebook should have solved it all
    but you know ...

if really nothing fix it you could settle for a mobo swap or if you feel like betatesting the m17x go for it

ok do a few things plz. Goto http://www.asimobile.com/ and click support, then under Model specific support hit the IQ17. Download all drivers from there and install em. I know there is ATI drivers that are more up to date but when i install the latest one modded i get screen tearing when i alt tab in and out of Wow.

Now make sure your power plan is set to High performance and disable Powerplay in Catalyst. Do u still get this bad DPC?

@ people having all green DPC. Is that while doing nothing or playing games/surfing/streaming video/watching a movie/listening to music?

PS u can look for even more up to date drivers here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=426562 but try the ones listed on ASI Mobile site first plz. Also does anyone have that 0.29 bios or is that the same then any of the latest AW one?

I'm running Windows 7x64Ultimate(also yesterday I try fresh install Win XP and Win Vista SP2x64) ,B14 bios, also I try zfactor .28. I don't run any AW software, cause when last time I install Command Center it take about 1G extra from my RAM
    Wireless card Intel MIMO 300Mbps
About swapping... I don't like M17x design it's not Alienware anymore

Yes,it' still a same. But.. I try this solution and it look it work for me:
    Go in Device Manager>Storage controlers>uninstall first controler>reboot
Then disable windows sounds. You can try another tweak for Win7, after that my boot time is short less(but don't change memory properties, because after that I miss 1G RAM's )

All I did was simply resize the youtube video on the left (grab the bottom and drag down), and my latency went crazy. It also goes nuts when I start up Steam to play CODMW2. Is this really the quad's fault?

I just tried the youtube video minimize and maximize while on battery and my bars still stayed green. Quads in my opinion are great for benchmarking but duals are better for everyday use.

Agreed, Mandrake. That's why I've arranged to trade an X9100 that Forge has for sale for my QX9300. I had an old ES X9100 that served me well. Don't know why I got rid of it. Probably just to say I have a quad core mobile CPU.

did you like the T9900 or the x9100 more Mandrake? I know you only had both for the M17x, but which do you think you would prefer with the M17?

Since cooling is more of an issue with the M17 I would take the T9900 over the x9100. The T9900 also OC'ed better in the M17x.

If you guys would just stop using OCZ bios and use alienwars b14 you will be much happier b14 vs Zfactor or w/e bios OCZ is day and night no you cant OC with Alienware's B14 but it plays anygame just fine a default speeds. If you really feel the need just use FSB

Do not use ocz bios use b14 70% better i used ocz 28 for about 1 day and i shuttered so hard i went back to b14 so quick and i shutter maybe 5 times a week for about 3 sec each and Like i said before if you UNPLUG power cord and plug back in that will fix ur shutter for time being

as scook said. dell doesn't have anything to do with the m17 so it wouldn't help you out. you can call and complain and see where that gets you. i told you did the copper mod?

I may be getting an M17 for a toy/backup machine and looking at throwing the T9900 into it (and it will probably get some M17x time as well)

If your looking directly at what AW is selling all their stuff is high right now but there is a 15% BCB. I got 10% BCB on my purchase but it was AW cheapest one for $1100.
