Hey all, i am trying to clean a friends M17 R1 off dust (he has it for like 2 years and he has a cat and a a dusty place) can anybody point me to a service manual or at least a disassembly procedure ? i am having trouble finding one.
-
its really simple. there are 8 screws that hold the back cover on. remove those. that will give you acces the the gpus, cpu,Ram, & all the heat sinks. then you can remove both hdds by removing the screws directly below them. you can remove the dvdr drive by removing the two screws that hold it on directly below it. you should be able to blow out the entire system from those angles. i can post pics if necessary
EDIT...PICS ADDED
***please forgive the crude ms paint laziness =) -
thanks mate! already done and all is good now.
Man, they put those air filters on the inside of the cover and they were blocking the incoming air. While the inside stayed clean of dust it was overheating due to insufficient air supply. I just tore them out of the cover and after running prime95 + furmark dual gpu on it for 20 minutes no overheating and no cpu throttling (which was happening before). -
-
yeah, while i saw no throttling occuring, the cpu temps climbed to around 95, which is pretty hot imho (he has the x9100).. also the gpus were around 86 degrees stable with furmark. is this normal ?
-
cpu going to 95 isnt, even when i had the qx9300 in it it never got that high even close really i think 87 is the highest i ever saw. id re apply thermal paste and look into doing the copper mod on the northbridge to be safe.
-
What's the copper mod? I will try to get a hold of some thermal paste-he doesn't have any, wish I brought my mx3 with me
btw, I also saw the north bridge temp climbing to 100(!!). Man this machine is hot. Is this why I need the copper mod?
EDIT: Scratch that, i found the Project Freeze thread.. giving it a read now.
Thanks for everything! -
