M17 R1 overheating. What are the normal temps supposed to be?

These are the current temps for my M17 R1 with the bottom cover removed and setting on dual fan cooling pad. I would like to know if these are normal. I have seen the temps on the X9100 go as high as 205 F while gaming.

I was experiencing stuttering, low frame rates, and the occasional BSOD, before removing the cover and placing on cooling pad.

What are the normal temps? What should I be seeing?

    Thanks for any help.

    Thanks for responding.

I have already cleaned the fins. They did have some dust.

I have Artic 5 and cleaner ready to go. I first want to confirm that the temps are abnormal.

If they are then I replace the thermal paste. If not, then air flow is most likely the issue as well as a software issue perhaps.

If anyone can post the normal operating temps, I would be very grateful.

I love my rig and want to keep it going strong for as long as possible.

there is no Normal temp it varie from one to an other yours are a little high but redoing the paste properly and changing the pad on the NB should bring it down

remove the back pannel remove the cpu fan and voila the nb is revealed at the same time

you need a 1mm thick pad to have the assembly sitting right on both the cpu and the NB

So instead of using thermal paste on the nb you add a 1mm thermal pad, if so does anyone know the size of the pad to purchase?

    Thanks for the info.

Should I hold off on the thermal paste and just order the pad or should I use both?

By the way, the dust cleaning and undervolting helped a lot. I am now running 20 C cooler even after I replaced the bottom cover. My max temp while playing Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 was 75 C. It had been running between 92 C and 99 C.

    you need both
pad for the nb and paste for the cpu

and if you wishe bonus you can redo the pads on the gpus memory and paste on the die

I mirrored your settings for undervolting and saw a big difference when stress testing, cpu was hitting mid 80's. Without undervolting Cpu would hit 90's after a couple of minutes.
Tested 3DMark with undervolting and was hitting high 90's. The NB is about 8 degrees higher than the CPUs. Awaiting thermal pad to arrive as a next step.

Thanks for the info, vf3. I am currently away from home so I won't be able to get the pad until I return.

Let me know how the paste and pad affected your temps.

I might try to undervolt a bit more. If it is stable, I will repost my settings.

but on the nb it dropped from the high 90 to the high 60
