Righteous Post Man. I have also made two zips containing all the essential M17 Drivers For Windows 7x64 if anyone is interested in one easy to download package.
M17 Drivers Win7x64.part1.rar
M17 Drivers Win7x64.part2.rar
also well as the B14 Bios, which is recommended for over 4GB of memory:
M17_R1_B14_BIOS.zip
EDIT:
Just Keep In Mind The Crossfire Doesn't Work Properly with 3870x2 in Win7 or 8. If You Have a single card setup though, this is the best option IMO -

Why doesn't Crossfire work with Windows 7? My cards are posting normal scores.
-
if you can find me a driver in windows 7 that does 7k plus than by all means, but I've tried a few still stuck at around 3500 which is terrible, It says crossfire enabled but its almost as if only one card is working

It looks like you are lucky. -
Uploading The Vista ISO's to Dropbox Now, The Driver ISO is on there already, the OS Recovery ISO is almost done, about 1 more hour left and It will be up.
ok that recovery iso took forever but both files are up successfully, I didn't see a need to rar them since compression doesn't work on ISO files anyway. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/amucvy08s0jhz39/WcdFY5LFME -

Thanks for sharing this! I've seen a lot of people asking for them.

I remember I posted it somewhere else in this M17 forum, but there's a program related to the AMD driver that begins to suck a lot of resources as soon as you begin a benchmark. The laptop does score above 7K, and it runs everything that it should run just fine. This run is on an external monitor, not the 1440x900 listed in my sig, so the score is not inflated.
Rotary, I thought you got your benchmark scores to be normal as well? Maybe you weren't running Windows 7 though...I can't recall. -
Rotary Heart Notebook Evangelist
Yes that was with Windows Vista
-

Do you have the service stopped always? (If you do) Does your computer freeze sometimes when running a full screen program? What driver do you have? -

You are welcome, Enjoy!

Just to clarify. The Vista x64 is the Alienware version that shipped with the laptop?
-
Rotary Heart Notebook Evangelist
Yes, those are the files that they shipped the M17 with. You just need your CD key, behind the battery and you have it like out of the factory. -
I'm buying a barebone chasis straight off of Ebay, and I don't believe that it has a Genuine Windows sticker. Does it need the sticker with the alphanumeric, or does it just authenticate off of the mobo?
-
Rotary Heart Notebook Evangelist
I really don't know. Last time that I installed it it asked me to change the key, so I had tu put it manually. -
Does one even need the Support CD then? Or can the Vista ISO be used alone, and the M17 will be fully installed like it just came from the factory?
-
Rotary Heart Notebook Evangelist
You can install Windows Vista and use the OP to install the drivers and programs or burn the Vista ISO which contains everything, just put your CD key (located under the battery) and done. -
That did not work. I burned the Vista ISO and used it for installation. At no point did it ask for my key, it installed Vista Ultimate, and did not include any of the stock Alienware drivers, programs etc. I suspect it is one of those pirated editions with certain items slipstreamed into it. Now I am missing half of my drivers, don't have a command center or AlienFX, and this does not look like when I bought it at all.
-
Rotary Heart Notebook Evangelist
It will not ask you to but you have to set in. Right click on my computer and click on properties. Yes my bad that one is just the Vista installation. Now just go to OP and download the drivers and/or software and install them. -
That didn't work either. The ISO installed Vista Ultimate - didn't give any option to choose otherwise - and my sticker is for Vista Home Premium. So when I plugged in my product key, it gave an error that the key was invalid for Ultimate.
-
Rotary Heart Notebook Evangelist
Yes that ISO is for Vista ultimate, so if you don't have a Ultimate product key it won't work. -
I've been searching for weeks trying to get my brother-in-laws M17-R1 back up to par and this has been a HUGE help, thanks you guys!

You are welcome. -
By the way, I've just got a fully working 3870x2 mobility crossfire in Windows 7 64x with this driver:
http://yadi.sk/d/ve6zUyocMrsev
Confirmed with 3dmark06 system info (2 adapters linked) and score at around 13k with 2.66Ghz E8335 dual core CPU
3Dmark Vantage also scores over 8k with max perfomance driver settings (10k+ actual GPU score)
Should also work for 32 bit, you will just have to mod the ATi 9.12 driver with Mobility modder, as I did with this one. -
Rotary Heart Notebook Evangelist
Going to try that driver in a few minutes with Windows 8.1. -
Rotary Heart Notebook Evangelist
Well it "works" in Windows 8.1, I said "works" because I got a computer freeze when I try to launch the app/game a second time. This is the same issue that I have if I stopped the service that is causing the cpu usage. -
Not sure, but it may depend on the OS (Win 8.1 in this case - maybe some other driver will work better with Windows 8?) or the app itself, also try switching the ATi driver optimization "AI" mode from advanced to standard or even disable it, to see if it solves the actual app freezing.
-
I don't honestly understand why anyone would want to run 8 or 8.1 on this - 7 is perfect.
-
Sure, Windows 7 is just fine, I would go with Win8 only for touchscreens and if I really liked all their "feature" gadget stuff apps etc.
Unless Microsoft would force the OS upgrade by incompatibility with new DirectX release once again .)) -
I must admit - there is an issue you are refering to with 11.12 drivers - even in Win 7 with some apps.
I have tried several others, and finally was able to find the properly working one - the older 9.12 which I modded with Mobility modder:
Here is 64x version:
http://yadi.sk/d/ve6zUyocMrsev
Please try and tell if it solved second time launch freezing for you, as for me on Win 7 it did.
I also can clearly see a slight perfomance increase with it. Can post the result later on.
Thanks for checking! -
Rotary Heart Notebook Evangelist
Going to try it right now. Will edit this post with the results. -
So I guess it works ?
-
Rotary Heart Notebook Evangelist
Sorry I forgot to update, lol. Right now I'm running Windows 7 with 10.4 or 11.12 I don't remember and I don't have the CPU issue -
I have started using these drivers with my M17 on 8.1 and I will say they work beautifully so far. I do have two problems though. The default Microsoft drivers keep auto installing over them, even though I have "never install driver software from windows update" checked in Device installation settings.
The other problem is Catylist control center wont open.
Update: Ok fixed the update problem, hid it when when Windows update suggested it again.
Any thoughts on the CCC issue? -
What mobility card do you have? You can probably just get the latest 8.1 driver from AMD/ATI.
-
I bought this computer new, back in 09. Had Bios troubles with it for a while which had me near convinced it was a dead computer walking, the B14 Bios gave it a new life when I finally got those installed. Still running the the 3870 X2 and had heard there were issues with the newer legacy drivers. Is that not the case? Going to the newest drivers would certainly be preferable if I had heard wrong about issues they had.
Update 2: Fixed the CCC issue by, of all things, reading the FAQ on the AMD website. Go figure.
I still am curious however as to whether it is more worth my time to go with a more recent driver or not? -
In my m5750 w/ the 4850 I run the latest Win7 available for it (13.9 from oct 2013) without any issues.
