I downloaded the driver of nvidia's site, and couldn't seem to get it to work. Any of you guys have similar experiences?

So it this new driver not working for m17x either?
-
I just installed the drivers and I had no problem at all. About performance I can't make any reference because I didn't benchmark them yet.
-
^What method did you use when installing the new drivers? Did you install the new drivers while 9400 is disabled?
-
I uninstalled the display drivers from Control Panel --> Programs and Features, I ran Driver Sweeper (I didn't reboot yet) I ran CCleaner, now I rebooted into safe mode, ran Driver Sweeper and CCleaner again, then booted normally and installed the driver.
In BIOS everything on -
Hm, I'll try the laptop release then. The modded Desktop release (as well as the 195.55 betas for notebooks) was giving me trouble on cold boot after hibernation (flickering Windows logon screen with lines running down with a system hang).

As for the Area 51 m15x owners, perhaps you might need a modified .inf (not sure if the 8800M GTX is supported natively or not). Check out laptopvideo2go.com if you can find a working driver/.inf combo for your system. It's possible they just didn't test the drivers enough on the 8800M GTX in Windows 7, since it's not the latest model.
I've just installed the newly released mobile version 195.62 WHQL drivers (completely unmodded) and they seem to be working well so far. Hybrid SLI installation went well and I haven't experienced the problems on reboot after hibernation I had with the other 195.xx drivers. So far, so good.
It's great to see that a new official laptop driver release from Nvidia's site works properly on the M17x' Hybrid SLI setup without any hassle for a change. Let's hope it's not just a fluke and it'll stay this way with this and future driver revisions. -
I tried the Nvidia ones and they didn't work at all. i got BSOD even after a clean install of win7 64.
-
i am going to wait for more feedback after the last horrible update
-
lol he's asking about the m15x but yeah. These are actually the first drivers I tried on W7 and I BSoD'd right after start up.
-
I tried these drivers for Vista 32 bit, and upon checking device manager, I see an error for my display adapter.
Never happened before with other drivers. Nvidia also states that these drivers support the 8800M GTX, as seen in their page, under supported products.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_winvista_win7_195.62_whql.html -
Have you tried this yet Cha? LINK -
so what are the very best Nvidia drivers for the m15x right now?
-
At first, I was elated that device manager now states my display adapter is normal after following the instructions from that link.
Unfortunately, when I checked driver details, it reverted me to 186.81..
Anyone else got this to work on Vista? -
All the 19x.xx drivers have crashed my m15x after install - straight to blue screen on re-boot, even the whql ones. I'm running a 9800m GT on Win 7 Home Premium x64. The last set of drivers to work properly for me with this set up is the 186.81.
Anyone know what's going on? -
same problem here with 9800m gt
-
Had these install flawlessly on my M17x though it still seems to have the same bug with the scaling settings reverting in the control panel.
Good thing is that switching from Windows to full-screen 3D graphics is a lot faster, about 2 seconds verses the 10-15 on older drivers. FPS seem to be a little higher as well (as an initial impression). -
Hi guys, after installation I got BSOD, I have a m15x with a geforce 8800gtx. I'm running windows 7 ultimate 64. As BTGMAN, I'm having the same kind of problems with all 19x.xx drivers. If some of you know the cause or even the solution for this problem please share it with the rest of us
-
I also have the area-51 m15x here and I also have the same problems with all 195.XX drivers (haven't try the 195.62 yet but I think it'd be the same).
They give me a BSOD on install and on reboot. I managed to install 195.55 without a BSOD but it still didn't work on reboot. Device manager showed the Code 43 error.
I've already reported on this case here.
It reminds me of a similar problem we had with the 185.XX drivers. -
From all these cases. I'd recommended staying away from these drivers for the moment until Nvidia figures it out.
I wonder if there is anyone here who actually got these drivers to work on their m15x... -
I recommend to fill out this survey on the nvidia homepage.
And after that to wait and to hope that nvidia will do something after getting multiple problem reports on the same issue. -
The current stock driver offer good performance and no real gain is coming from the 195.xx drivers.
-
Thought I would throw in the fact that I too am having this issue.
I've been having it with everything that isn't 186.81. I tried the 190.89 beta OpenCL drivers, and they are running fine on my other laptop with a 9600M GT, but everything in the 19x series is failing miserably on my m15x with the 8800M GTX. I'm running Windows 7 x64 Pro.
Very frustrating! The 19x series released the really nice feature for resolution adjustment to adjust over/under scan on TVs. Since this is my Blu-ray player, I'd really like to get the 19x series drivers on. I also want the OpenCL and DirectCompute support.
Guess I just have to wait. -
Well they installed perfectly for me. However my DPC latency went though the roof now, spiked to 135,000 :O average is super high to. Damit Nvidia!
-
My guess is the m15x's integrated GPU/chipset and the driver are not getting along.
-
I had the same problem, got m15x with 8800gtx i tried the beta 195 when they came out and got the blue screen, then unistalled the drivers and could not switch back to dedicated grafics after banging a lot of fn f7 then fn f10 on start up it finaly switch, today i tried the non beta 195 hoping the problem was solved and bam same problem and couldn´t switch back to dedicated!!
i fill out the form but now i don feel so good of ever upgrading my grafics drivers.. for now il stay on the 186.81
-
I too have this problem. Probably a good idea to link to this thread when dealing with Nvidia.
-
The 190.73 gives a error code 43 as well.
This makes me want to get a ATI card even more. I am still hopping the release the 5 series in MXM HE form. -
any body tried the new 195.81 drivers??
-
don't think they'd work, because there is no significant change compared to the 195.62 -
phew, I thought I was the only one having this issue as well. Hopefully it is fixed soon
-
I'm using 195.81 on M17X W7 and so far the best driver I've had.
-
I tried the 195.82 => FAIL
Tried to uninstall the Intel driver first => FAIL
Any ideas what the cause of the problem is??? -
Same problem. Do we need a bios or vga bios update to fix this?
-
Hi everyone,
I just got off the phone with Alienware tech support, and they do not recognize these incompatibilies between their systems (usually with 8800M's or 9800M's in them it seems) and Nvidia's latest drivers. They told me that if more people report the same problem, they will look into it.
So, please, call Alienware and report that Nvidia's drivers (later than 186.81 for my m15x) DO NOT WORK FOR MANY OF THEIR SYSTEMS. I think this is our best hope for getting new drivers. So, please please please, spread the word. -
-
Imho Alienware won't care much about this problem, it's more important to get nvidia to work on a solution. -
-
Being told to go back to vista from 7 is like being told to go back to windows ME from XP. Asking to go back to XP from 7 is like being told to go back to 95 from XP.
-
Better place to report problems to Nvidia:

I can't install any drivers from nvidia. I'm running on 186.91 from laptopvideo2go.com. I have the area-51 m15x with 260m GTX. when I try to install the installation says there is no supported hardware. I think it might be the integrated GPU in the m15x? Is there any way that you can force it to install?
-
Does anyone have this problem in Vista64 ? I'm thinking of going back.
-
1. Your 260m GTX card is from a manufacturer excluded from the nvidia driver support (Sony VAIO etc.).
2. You're trying to install it while running on the Intel GPU.
3.
however i think that if you manage to install a newer driver, it wouldn't work because of the problem we have here.
BTW how the 260m is performing in the good old m15x? -
-
Got the same problem here in combination with other problems..
My system:
Alienware Area-51 M15x
X9000
9800m GT
4gb ram
PROBLEM 1:
Latest drivers I can install are 186.81 as other users have mentioned. Anything above that installs correctly, however after reboot, windows (vista 32) doesn't recognize my video card and the whole screen is flickering.. I tried all of them including modified ones. So I guess we're stuck in 186.81 for now.
PROBLEM 2:
I bought this laptop for gaming, but apparently I can't even do that. I recently installed Modern Warfare 2 and I can play for about 5 minutes before I get - Display Driver nvlddmkm stopped responding, has successfully recovered error. Wondering if anyone else has seen that on their M15x.
Second problem is very annoying and I think it has to do with bad drivers.. I also tried every possible solution online for that problem, but ultimately it comes down to nvlddmkm driver from NVIDIA, which I can't get an update for.
I'm open to suggestion, going insane here -
A new mobile version 196.21 should be released in few days. The desktop version is already out.
Lets hope that nvidia fixed our problem in the new version... -
I hear you. Dell's lack of action on this issue has been appalling.
