I use 186.81 and I get that issue all the time. I think it has to do with my video card overheating. I have 9800m gt.

I just looked at info on rivatuner and the card is running at 90C idle.. I can't image what goes on there when I'm playing a game. I think my next step is to downclock it a bit.. I'll keep you posted

Apparently there's no software out there except for thermofan that can detect fans on M15x. So there's no way to change the settings and make them run faster.

Other thing is.. you can't downclock your video card eitheir to make it run cooler, because current bios version X36 or whatever is overwriting any changes made in RivaTuner..

Can all Area 51 - M15x users install a little program from ( http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php ) and report their GPU temperatures (Current (idle) MIN and MAX)

I'm trying to figure out if my laptop is running too hot. My idle GPU temperature is 89C and MAX goes 115C and above but laptop usually shuts down.

    I really appreciate it.

Martini, if the system is shutting down, then its too hot. idle @ 89c seems very high to me although I have no experience with your model. Have you tried cleaning out the intakes and exhaust (compressed air blast)?

The highest my card ever got was 91C running fallen earth at 1900x1200 and that game did lockup the computer a few times. Your laptop is probably not working correctly.

Yep, I got my all my answers today.

My computer was definitely crashing due to overheating. I took it apart today and cleared both heat sinks and fans. Now GPU seems to run 75C Idle and got up to 96C playing Modern Warfare 2.

I also don't get Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered error anymore. I'm sure heating had something to do with that..

Thanks for your help every one

The driver problem varies game to game. Does anybody else have Street Fighter 4 on the PC? On my machine this game is almost guaranteed to 'stop responding' after just a few minutes. I would be extremely interested in hearing from anyone else who owns this game.

    Thanks for the reponse.
-Did you buy it on Steam?
-What video settings are you using with the game and desktop? If you hit reset to default settings is it still stable?

I should add that I went back to Vista 64 specifically to try SF4 and it still crashed after about a minute so I don't think it's that. I don't have turbo memory, I wonder if there is a relationship there.

My Display driver has stopped responding and recovered error is back again when playing Modern Warfare 2. Is anyone here experiencing a similar problem?

    I'm using M15X
    9800M GT
    4gb ram
    Vista 32bit
    186.81 drivers

Can anybody post a link to the latest drivers they have working on a 32bit system that would work with a 9800GT? I want to try for comparison reasons.

I am also having trouble navigating laptopvideo2go's site. Can somebody explain to me how to use the first search function?

I have tried to do this a lot, even tried bypassing the signature. There is a special procedure for hybrid graphics too, but it still doesn't work. I'm pretty sick of these old drivers and my games crashing.

The problem is with the 19x.xx line, we've established previous drivers work fine.

    Thanks.

Same problem. It's like a black hole of people giving a damn, i've tried repeatedly to get dell to just go get an m15x and see for themselves. One time I got them to read this thread, they ignored all the people with problems and highlighted the guy with a new m17x who had no problems and decided it was all my fault.

I'm also using Win7 64 bit and Geforce 8800M GTX driver version 186.81.
I have also played WoW in the past with this configuration and encountered no problems.

same problem here. I'm switch drivers back and forth just to play certain games.. MW2 seems more stable with 176.37, but it freezes every 3 minutes with 186.81.

It seems that Nvidia excluded this video card from any future updates, since we can't use any drivers passed 186.81..

Also I don't know if you guys already know this, sorry if you already did, but Apparently with these alienwares you gotta be careful about how you install the drivers. Everything has to be done in a specific order otherwise things wont' work right. I learned this the hard way, but now that I got everything working I no longer have any problems with any of my games.

USing Windows 7 playing only MW2, Company of Heros and now Battlefield BAd Company for about 3 weeks now, I had a motherboard replacement. As I just got the PC (Bought used from a guy who bought the laptop in september of -09) and my touchpad buttons apparently were broken or were not working properly. But apparently I had issues with switching my GPU's back and forth between intel and Nvidia. Anyways I followed these instructions with a slight alteration on OSD app. SO here I went here and did this, http://4help.alienware.com/cgi-bin/alienware.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=6048&p_created=1244151445&p_sid=aj3edqXj&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MTIsMTImcF9wcm9kcz0mcF9jYXRzPTAmcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1hbnN3ZXJzLnNlYXJjaF9ubCZwX3NjZl80PTIwNSZwX3BhZ2U9MSZwX3NlYXJjaF90ZXh0PW0xNXggd2luZG93cyA3&p_li=&p_topview=1

Also I went into My Hive to get the OSD from Windows 7 but I went in that order, Be sure to install OSD before the video drivers and I went with the video drivers off of that orginal website from Alienware, and they seem to be working for me, I had an issue with BAttlefield Bad Company, but switched to DX 9 and now no more problems. And I think I can say I'm quite satisfied with my 15 inch laptop.

My main problem with all drivers right now is that I keep getting
    [IMG]

Mainly happens with Modern Warfare2, GTA4, and now R.U.S.E Beta
    Anyone else experiencing similar issues?

I'm going to downgrade back to original alienware drivers. And probably do a fresh reinstall just to make sure there's no conflicts.

well in his situation, drivers don't usually fail like that, and go back to working, cards do though. I've NEVER had a driver do that to me in the last 10 years, have you? THey usually work or they don't work, and if you had a driver work, then fail, then work, tell me which one.

@Token, if you have GTA4 or MW2, have you seen anything similar? The reason I'm asking is that I have the same exact system as in your signature except for windows 7. I'm running vista 32.

I installed 186.91 yesterday from laptopvideo2go and so far it's working great. Unlike original drivers from Alienware and 186.81, the 186.91 run a lot cooler.

    I have 9800gt
186.81 - Idle temp 72-76 (same with original drivers from alienware)
    186.91 - idles around 58-62.

Obvious choice for now. Just thought I would share.
