Hey I have an m15x one of older models and was wondering if the Nvidia Go 7600 256MB would fit in this laptop as right now the laptop has no video card in it and I want to get the cheapest one possible just to have some sort of video card. Also will the HDMI work without a video card and if the Nvidia Go 7600 256MB wont fit what is the very cheapest I can get a a working card? Thanks so much!

Don't you still have the integrated Intel video card?
It seems that my Nvidia 8700 just fried today so i switched to integrated one, at least i can use the laptop for music, browsing, movies, etc...

in the m15x you can fit card that are mxm 2.1 tyoe II , III or HE (type IV is possible but untested)

how ever you would need an apropriate heat sink as hoot in an other thread found it was impossibel to just use the same heat sink for them and mooding the one you have is likely not to end well

Those cards may fit but there's no guarantee that any of them will work. They require BIOS support as well.

The cards that are 100% confirmed to work are:
    nVidia 8600M, 8700M, 8800M GTX, 9800 GT, GTX 260M/280M
    ATi Mobility 3870

In theory the cheapest card would be the 8600M.

The best option however is the ATi 3870. More expensive than the 8600, but you get what you pay for. It performs nearly as well as the 8800M/9800M, but unlike all the nVidia cards it'll keep working. The 260M/280M WILL overheat without extreme cooling mods, and the rest have a fatal solder flaw that means they're virtually guaranteed to burn out after time; even more so considering the m15x's terrible cooling.

You might require heatsink modding if you buy a card different to the one you had. I'm not sure, but I do think some of the cards had different heatsinks. You definitely don't want to upgrade to a card more powerful than the one you had without a better heatsink or it'll nearly definitely overheat.

So would any ATi Mobility 3870 work for the Are 51 M15x? As per your advice that would be the best choice.
Or only the ones that have a certain BIOS compatible with them m15x?
Will there be any issues with the heatsink for ATi Mobility 3870?

    Thanks.

You need a master 3870, apart from that any should work.

As for the heatsink I've got no idea honestly. You'd need to ask someone more knowledgeable about the area-51 m15x.
