Try uninstalling your drivers and also using driversweeper.

Hmmm. I didn't know that NB heatsink mod went up and wrapped over to touch the other copper pipes. All of the other tid-bits I had read made it sound like a tiny piece of copper, just big enough to mate the NB to the sink. I like this. How much for a piece of copper bent to spec, FNAKFHE?

I'm not much of a tool person. What is the official name of this? I'm assuming they're just tin snips.

Those aren't normally sharp are they? Regardless I need something better than I'm using (you'd laugh if you saw it). Another stop at the hardware store is needed.

The prblem was that the driver from amd.com was not installing, it needed to first be modded with MobilityModder.net program that allows the amd.com videocard driver to install on our laptops.

    thank you anyway.

    Right now my tz000=59 C and my C0=54 c1=51 c2=55 c3=55

    is this normal?

The orignal intention is to mate the NB to the sink, but i went the extra mile, and attempted to help the extra heat disapate into the bigger copper slab.

I like it too, but im not makeing them for sale, i just did it cuz thats what i do, im good with my hands and i like to do a good job, so you can say i did a good hand job? lol, but no none for sale. im too lazy to make them then every one will be like "make me one too."

Yes, i did use plane'old tin snips to cut the copper, but the purpuse of the vice grips that are modded for duct work is to hold the copper and bend it, there is another way to bend flat metel/copper but its a big tool and i dont have it. just i just use those, they are the only way to get such a tight bend so close to gether.

nope, they are not sharp, they are to only hold metal sheets, but if you hold the sheet with them, then you can just press it against a table and it will bend it at a right angel.

that copper transfers the heat all around and helps the dispersion since it has a greater area to transfer ,,,

    Hey Folks,

I'm thinking I'm gonna go ahead and do this copper mod.
I managed to get hold of a peice that's 1.5mm thick.
Is that too fat or will I be ok with this?
    Thanks in advance.

@ Don: the thread is in my favorites and also mentioned in the M17 sticky..

The M17 community is NOT dead (yet) :D!

Everyone can make this cover, takes around an hour or 2 max and it helps your M17 alot especially when used in combination with a cooler like the Cryo.

There are plenty of us m17 owners around. Even got my buddy to get one. I really wouldnt want anything else right now for the price/performance. With a few 'upgrades' this thing hangs with the best of them.

I got a new access panel coming, so I will either mod it, or the one I have for the extra cooling, but so far, honestly cooling has not been an issue, and I run all games at max and have 4850x2.

Well, it all depends on what resolution, doesn't it?

I can run Crysis with the Lite version of the Extreme Quality mod (basically, a little better than Very High) but anything higher than 1280x768 is pretty much unplayable. Or I can run it at High @ 1440x900. Can't max it at 1440x900.

Although, if talking about the 4850s, yeah, it will run anything maxed out even at 1920x1200.

I'm just hoping the 3870s won't burn out easily-I'm hitting 80-85C regularly while gaming, and I need this to last for 3 years at least, yet my father won't let me make ANY cooling mods in the fear that I'll screw it up.

Pfttt, I jumped the Dell ship full stop, I've been fighting you from the Dark(er) Side :D

I did like my M17 though, if it hadn't had issues, I'd still happily be using it now and probably for about another year (year and a half to two year cycle kinda deal).

Honestly I dont really need the NXZT with the M980NU, but with the M17 it made about 5-10 degrees load temperature difference and the 4850s (along with a few heatsinks and removing the fabric from the vents), I'd guess it'd be even better with DHCs bottom :)

+/- 10 degrees cooler with the NZXT :).

Thanks buddy :), just remember i don't got much knowledge of this kinda stuff myself.
Infact the same day i made this bottom i went to the hardware shop, bought a dremel, bought a workbench and got started lol.

It's not hard at all. If you are serious about doing something similar i can probably help you out with some tips or a step by step tutorial, just let me know.

Agreed. I think the 3870s are actually pretty dang good, but when people say the m17s cant run ALL games, they are fooling themselves, all it takes is 4850s in crossfire, and its a blazing gaming machine. But again 3870s work pretty dang good, but where they have problems the 4850s wouldnt.

If only I was a real gamer, and could actually utilize the 4850s, I see now the 3870s probably would have been fine for me. (tough life i know.. lol).

Just what I was thinking....sucks that there never really was a way for german owners to get their hands on 4850s.

I beg to differ. I just sent a 3870 to a Chez Republic forum member, and I had to go to THREE different US Postal service offices to get the dang thing shipped. Total nightmare.

Filling out the customs paperwork sucked too, buying the postage, etc.

I have always shipped UPS, and its always a breeze, international, not so easy :(

Nor Cal post offices have no love for me and my international shipments I guess. I mean one thing is, why do we even need to go into a post office, why cant we just ship it though our mail man? It says you HAVE to take it into a post office. Why?!! Stupid!

I can print postage on line, and I can get international boxes online, why would i then be required to go into the post office to ship it?

Glad its simple for you guys, but its a pain in the butt here.

Well like many others, I suffered from the stutter issue was well I did log the last issue with alienware before I decied to format and reinstall the OS. I found that on my system it was the raid that was causing the stutter issues that I kept having, going from AW bios to OCZ did help but it would come back after about and 1/2 hour of game play. Now that I dont have raid setup I can bench mark 12k in 3dmark06 with stock settings no overclock. I will try some WD 320gb harddrives this weekend and raid them I'm hoping that its the drives that are causing the issues here and not the raid controller but well see.
