    HI, there,

Just want to know is there any people here who has experience on making 9800m gtx work on alienware m17.

I re-flashed the bios to OCZ .28 and .29. After rebooting, there is no signal on the screen, and it is quiet for a few seconds, no more than 5 ; then the fan starts crying, crazy crying. It looks very hot there.

I tried 8700m gt, it works fine on my m17 even with the b14 bios. But the 9800m gtx looks really weird here.

Hope you guys can give me some suggestion.

    Thanks

put the 8700 and the 9800m in diferent slot (if they fit) and look if you can make it boot

also is the 9800 functional ? a slave card or a defective crd could be the source of such issue

    Thanks for your reply.

only the mast card fit the 9800m gtx. I dont think that is a problem.

this card supposed to work fine, the seller on ebay told me.

can the 8700 be fit into the slave card slot at the same time? that way you coud boot the laptop and see if it can get anywhere or see the card is detected in windows etc

The seller is also in this forum, I think you can send him message. His user name is flawed.

I put the 9800m in the master slot and the 8700 in the slave slot; then reboot. Same problem as before... no signal and the fan starts crying a few seconds later.

    Any idea?

    Thanks

try the 8700 in the slave slot alone for now i suspect your 9800 to be defective but it might be because of several thing including the 9800 not being suported

we would nedd to find back what was the reselet what was selling the system with just a 9800 and try thier bios

The card is not defective, as I am the one who sold him the card. It was pulled from a working Sager machine.

was the said machine using a sli setup?

you know by defective i mean it could also have been damaged in transport packagin instalation ETC

considering the advances degradation stage of the packages i recieve from Alienware i'm always surprised when i install the thing and it works

as of now it seem like the 9800 suport never came and no one is offering bios update for it atm so it seem like a lost cause unless you know some one who can add suport to the bios

    thanks for your help anyway.

The card should be fine, since i just test it on one area 51 m15x, it can recognize this card in bios.

So the only problem is the bios for m17
