I'm using the 186 nvidia drivers for my m15x with the 256mb 8600m gt, however when I try to install the latest drivers (195 and up) the drivers don't work. The problem occurs while restarting after it prompts you to. During start up after the Alien head screen at the VERY beginning of the start up it goes to a blue screen with a bunch of numbers/letters for like 2 secs and crashes to restart.
Next thing that happens is that it goes into a menu with a choice of either doing a System Restore (which just puts me back to where I started) or to start windows normally, where the graphics card is disabled and "broken". I've tried uninstalling and going into safe mode to try and install it but so far i've had no luck. Please I'm COMPLETELY stumped on what to do.

Now might be a good time to back everything up and use the restore cd's to reformat the whole laptop.

Well I just did a system recovery, restored all of my backed up data, and just tried to install the new driver it does the exact same thing as it did before the system recovery. Now I don't know what to do.

What does the error message on the blue screen say?

Maybe stick with 186 drivers if they are ok?

The newer drivers must have something that is incompatible with your laptop setup.

Yeah I found that out when i was searching through the forums, I really hope nVidia or Alienware could release a new driver for the ones having this issue, then again I shouldn't get my hopes up.
