    Hello

I have an interesting temp problem im hoping someone can help with. I have an M17 with the 4850's in at the minute. Now at idle they sit at 49-50 which is quite good. But after about ten mins of doing nothing they rise slowly to about 57-58 and sit there for another ten mins. Then surprise surprise they fall back to 49-50 and so on and so on. The fans are not running through this little temp jump and I cant find any background service running so any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Nothing to worry about, if the temp drops back from 57-58 then it's ok.

Mine idle at 40 at the moment, and sometimes its also 45, or 50...but never for a long time.

Gaming wise they can get to 70.

    Hello

Thanks for the info mate. How did you manage to get them idling so low. I have cut away 3/4 of the bottom cover and used arctic cooling MX3 and 49-50 is the best I can attain at the minute. Are you using a cooler as well to get those GPU temps.

    Cheers

Using a NZXT Cryo LX cooler with the bottom cut open totally :).

Tried getting one of those but they are no longer on sale. Only ones I can find are in the states and im not paying £35 shipping plus the £40 cost of the cooler. Guess I will need to find another make and give that ago.

    Cheers

Yeah can really recommend a good cooler if your bottom is open.

There are other good ones out there, just check the cooling part here for 17" laptops.

My biggest temp source is my CPU...gets 68 while gaming.

I have found one by enermax which has a 250mm fan on it and seems to have excellent reviews. Strange that as my CPU stays really cool even when gaming.

nothing to worrrie about mine with the stock clock/volt and crapy air intake from AW ideled at 58-64 ..... and gaming they could reach 80-90

now with some more agressive powerplay setting they idle around 40-50 no cooler but they get to around 92 when gaming (theres is a little gamign overlcock there to)

Aggressive powerplay settings sound interesting. What settings would you suggest for powerplay to achieve some better idle temps. Also does any know if Z.Factors bios allows fan control. I have his version 0.28 installed but cant find anything.

    Cheers

no it does not his .29 does not ethier and he deseapeared befor finishing his 0.30 project

basicly i use atiflash and RBE to undervolt and underclock the clock of the GPU when runing at idle

    following madrake's overclocking guide http://www.notebookforums.com/thread230061.html

Think I will stick with idle temps around 49-50 which is fairly good as not loving the idea of going down the GPU flashing road lol. Dont have the money to replace them if I go and brick them. Cheers for the advice lads.

bricking them is probably impossible unless you corupt the bios but even then you just set the laptop to boot from usb at base befor so you would just need to use a batch script to blind flash them back to the stock bios

how ever if you don't feel comfortable with it you better stay off

flashing the gpu bios is beyond simple. its much easier & a million times more stable tha using software to oc, or set voltage etc.
