What power settings are you guys using? The "Balanced" or the "High performance" setting? I turn on high performance all the time and my electricity bill gone up almost three times what I used to pay... I leave my laptop turned on almost 24/7 last month, and after since I got my bills, I'm shutting it off whenever I'm going out or sleep. I'm curious if the High Performance setting is making my laptop to use more power? Discuss.

or maybe, it is my other devices at home that make such changes, but I'll try to use less of my laptop this month and see what's my next bill will cost me.

High performance does increase power usage as it keeps the processor and other components clocked at 100% power usage all the time. The other power plans dynamically adjust the processor clock according to usage,

I use high performance, but I shut my laptop down when not in use or close the lid.

Meh. I'm not the one that pays the bill. I usually leave it in high performance, on 24/7.

Then again I do live where electricity is dirt cheap (dirt is probably more expensive, actually) so it really wouldn't make much of a difference.

I live in the Middle East. In Qatar, to be precise. And trust me, electricity is cheaper to buy than dirt. (Even though the dirt is everywhere)

Such is the case in a rapidly advancing country built entirely on the oil and gas industry.
