Please tell me in great detail, step by step, how you safely upgraded to Windows 10 :notworthy: . I'm looking to do a clean installation to optimise the performance of my m15x. I'm still waiting for MS to let me download W10, I sent in my reservation last week, hopefully the wait won't be too long.

When you say 'ripley version', you mean the area-51 m15x R1, correct? So, after I download it I just have to install the drivers in the correct order following this guide (for a W7 clean install, who knows about W10).

I downloaded and ran the file provided in this link, but the only thing that happened after I unzipped it was a registry tweak, no drivers were downloaded. Am I doing something wrong?

Just installed windows 10 on my old m15x core 2 duo 4gb ram. Ran windows update for latest drivers. Not fully tested everything like Bluetooth or dvd but it can see it, WiFi and lan working. All the soft buttons work. I'm on integrated graphics as my gt card died. It runs so smoothly I'm back on the forums looking for a new gpu to revive the laptop but as a gaming PC it's probably a waste of time would probably just overheat on the new gpu. I will continue to get a bit more life out of this thing yet. Very happy I upgraded.

Hey Guys, i haven't made a post here in a long time. i have a 2008 alienware m15x used it until 2014 then the 8800GTX stopped working. So i passed it down to my girlfriend its perfectly fine for here with the integrated graphics. what i want to know is it possible to upgrade to windows 10 and have all info on harddrive brought to the new version of windows. i have windows 7 and there is this warning to upgrade to W10. i remember some years back not being able to upgrade to 8 so i was wondering if it is possible and if all drivers and lights work fine? PS what is this thing of baking the gpu i read some posts back... is it possible to revive the gpu??

I have clean installed Win 7 and then upgraded to Win 10 yesterday. I am yet to see what is working and what is not since office hours are interfering with my productive hours :)

It might take a few days to find out problems and solutions since I am not able to spend much time in front of the laptop anymore - 'being married' brings more changes to life than Win 10 upgrade does ;~)

Glad see to that area-51 m15x has not completely faded into memory. As long as I can play Fifa14, control the lights and use HDMI out I guess I will be using this laptop for a great while more!

Updates from my Win 10 installation:

    - My wifi which used to work fine during and after the installation suddenly stopped working after the first update and restart. It simply says that no wifi devices are identified in the PC. Removing the updates and resetting the Win 10 installation did not help. Seems like intel 4965 AGN is not properly supported.
    - Connecting an external display has failed. I see that Radeon HD 3870 drivers were downloaded by windows but the installation status was reported as error. It was listed in the device manager though, with a warning or something.
    - The OS was working smoothly in a way similar to Win 7, but it used to freeze up for a few seconds during installations or when loading a program (only occasionally). Maybe this could have improved once all updates are done and PC is stabilized.
    - The screen resolution changed from 800x600 to 1920x1200 during the windows update.
    - Command center software for Win 7 also works for Win 10 :) I could even see that the battery settings could be done via command center which was not possible for me in Win 7!
    - OSD was also working with win 7 drivers, but binary GFX was kind of broken - it did not restart the PC after showing the prompt for GPU switch.

Overall, the experience wasn't very bad but I switched back to Win 7 mainly due to lack of wifi. I have accomplished downloading my copy of Win 10 home ISO and activating Win 10 in my PC. Now I need to get the origin installation done properly and get Fifa 14 to connect to EA servers!

Hope this post helps someone! :~)

I have looked extensively for the latest version of Command center 64-bit (for the R1 m15x). Anyone who has this would be my hero! ;)

Finally my m15x retires, after 7 long years of service...! Now the cpu temps are a bit off the chart during idling and also the fan noise is unbearable. Since I am past my prime as a gamer, the new Clevo should suffice me for the next decade or so :)

Barring the classic hinge issue, it had been a terrific experience with this skullcap beauty! Looking back at the experience, no regrets and definitely missing the AlienFX light show on the Clevo!!! :(

Wanted to pay a tribute to my trusted friend, so reviving this old thread with probably irrelevant information... :)

Long life to m15x! Mine is still going strong, even running latest Win10, but yeah I'm using mostly as secondary PC. Main reason for not using on daily basis is because its very bulky, heavy, hot, battery does not hold and is very noisy comparing to HP Elitebook 840 G1 :/
