Hey guys hoping someone has a similar problem as me I have scoured the net but I don't think any has posted this so any help is appreciated.
I have an Alienware m9700 with dual 7900gs sli video cards. The computer boots into xp and everything works as long as sli is disabled. I cannot however get windows 7 to install i get a blue screen citing a hardware failure. 0x000124. All signs point to some problem being with the sli. If I enable the sli in windows xp it crashes immediately no matter what drivers i use. It crash in windows 7 during the setup when the screen flickers for graphics.
I am really hoping one of the two cards isn't bad, but it seems likely. I have reseated everything and will re apply thermal paste as soon as it is delivered. Is there any other fix for getting windows 7.
Things I have done:
installed windows xp and tried both drivers from alienware's website and nvidia's latest drivers
I have updated the bios to the most current version
I have reseated the sli cable and video cards.
Cleaned out and dusted all the fans.
Things I still have to do....
I have to pull the video cards, and test each one individually and maybe have the card reflowed. ( I won't bake the card doesn't seem to work well)
Thanks Again
Eric
