my 8600m died on me, ive got a 9600m gt that i can use but the problem is i cant get any drivers to work with it. it works just the display is way off colorwise, almost like a glowing effect of anything but white or black. is it even possible to get this to work or is there a different nvidia card i should go with thats more compatable with this laptop? running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, but it resufes to recognise the graphics as anything but standard vga adapter. any help would be greatly appreciated

What driver version are you using? The latest drivers for that machine is the 186.xx drivers. Newer ones give the BSOD or only recognize it as a "standard VGA adapter".

The best drivers I've found for that series of card are still the 186.xx, and my best success in those has been the 186.82. As you might note from looking around the board here lately though, the best overall card for durability while still retaining reasonable performance seems to be the ATI 3870.
