I bought a area 51 m17x as a bare bones computer with the hope of putting it together. I cant seem to find many parts. There isn't any service tag. It was removed so AW cant help me with the parts I need.I need hard drive caddies, cpu fan and heat sink,AC adapter,SLI ribbon,Plastic cover over GPUs,metal shield that mounts under the key board to the case, and the ribbon that connects the power button to the motherboard. Does anyone have a dead area 51 m17x for sale? Mine is the skull cap design, but that shouldn't matter.

Man thats an ambitious build! I have one and love it. BUT you will spend as.much as a new dell/aw m17x costs tyring to build it.

I tried doing that once with a M1710 and I lost like $200. The problem is when you put it all together and it doesn't work, where do start to get it fixed.?

gonna be VERY hard with an area51 model, there aren't many around, you'll likely spend months trying to track parts down, just search the inter webs, they'll turn up

Last time I checked for the fun of it (last week) there were a few running Area 51 m17xs on the bay for around 1000. You cant get a HD, and the two 8800 GTX/9800m gt's for that. Id purchase one of those.

I have had my area51 m7700 completely apart many times. Not to bad. I put together a 5500 that has been working great. Im hoping a non working m17x comes up on eBay before to long. I have the rest of the parts I need and I enjoy figuring out the problems and then getting it right.
