Yes. Search google for alienware m15x 3700m and you will see some results, tests & issues.

The HP ones for sale be AlanComputech can be flashed to gtx 280m and you may avoid some issues, however don't expect it to run at the gtx 280m clocks.
the ones with qimonda or hynix chips would do that but they only have the ones with samsung chips left.

Does it actually recognize the 3700m? Or ar you running from your internal graphic card without the 3700m being detected at all?

    Hi

Recently my gpu died, 8700m gt, and the computer seemed to force it to work so i was able to start windows but not any thing that needs 3D, nor did my hackintosh or ubuntu start with it, just game an error.

So I switch to integrated and have been running on that for a few months, then i decided to buy a new gpu, the fx 3700m. So i decided well i can experiment and bake my 8700m gt to s if anything happens, well i tried and it fail, and now the screen didnt even force start it remained off. So i figured, oh well it was already dead.

Now when I got my fx 3700m I put it in and again same thing computer stats and screen stays blank. So i tried blind flash the card, nothing. Before that tried a blind back up. Didnt do anything.

So I believe it doesnt do anything after start up. Just stops there after the lights turn on and such. Cause it seems not to do anything, the vbios flash didnt work nor back up. and doesnt sound like its starting goes quiet instead sounding like its loading an OS.

So would anyone know what is wrong, what I could do?
I really hope I can get my card running again.
Seems kinda pathetic to run this machine only on integrated if you know what i mean.

Are you sure you bought the right MXM type card?
I'm not sure the bios of the A51 M15x supports the fx3700m, you might have to flash it to a 280m GTX in order for the bios to actually recognise the card.

You are aware that you will not be able to run the fx3700m at stock speeds right? It will get way to hot (the fx3700m runs even hotter then the 280m GTX) and you will have to do some serious cooling mods and/or downlock the card in order to enjoy it longer then 30 seconds.

I will repeat my previous question:

Does it actually recognize the 3700m? Or ar you running from your internal graphic card without the 3700m being detected at all (in device manager for example)?

    Hi,

How would i go about flashing it. I have a downclocked gtx280m bios ready to be flashed, but i cant seem to get it to do it. I am doing it blindly so either im doing it wrong or then something is just not working...

I cant see what is going on if anything at all...

So is there a guide that i can follow exactly or someone know exactly what to do to get it running.

oh, and Yea i do know I cant run at stock speeds, and i did get a pieces of silver to do the copper mod with (as well as the modded vbios), but seen as silver has better thermal conductivity figured i would take it instead of copper seen as it was there.

    Thanks

Dont know if anyone is still following this thread, but it seems for me when i start with the fx3700 it doesnt seem to go past initial boot.

when you first boot, pressing the power button shuts the laptop down instantly, but when windows starts to boot you have to hold down the button for a few seconds before it shuts down.

While running on the fx3700 pressing the power button shuts it down instantly even after waiting the time it should take for windows to boot.

So it seems to be stuck at the initial boot. and of course a black screen so i dont know whats going on.
whereas with the integrated card it works just fine.

Does anyone know what could be happening?

read the threads about getting the 260 and 280 to work on these systems, they listed specific instructions about how to bootup, which I forgot what the details were. If this wasn't useful I apologize as it's all that I recall.
