Since posting I dismantled my M5500 - here's how if it may help anyone else:

    1. - remove all screws from the bottom and the service plate cover and back (hinge areas) - disconnect wires going to wifi and speakers.
    2. - with a small flat head screw driver gently pry the hinge covers up.
    3. - disconnect the 3 connectors under the right hinge cover and pull through the wifi wires and speaker wires and unscrew the ground screws on the hinge post.
    4. - carefully lift off the lcd
    5. remove the cd drive, and hdd
    6. genlt pry case loose and that's it.

To remove the motherboard just remove the crews and gently lift out- make sure you remove the heat sink first.
