Does anyone have the info on the infamous M7700 black screen of death?

I currently have an m7700 laptop and it is exhibiting this now, it has all the classic symptoms

    Lights come on
    Hdd and cd spin up
fans will eventually come on when the unit warms up.
    Numlock/Capslock don't function
No display to the LCD or the External DVI (not even a shimmer)

Every 20th or so turnon/turn off the unit will come on for a while and function normal

Everything is seated correctly, everything has been tested out (memory/video card etc..)

I read that it is a motherboard issue but i haven't seen any specifics on what is actually failing on the motherboard - some speculate a capacitor etc. but zero info (suprised considering i have read post after post describing this problem).

Does anyone have any info on this?
