My laptop just started acting up today. I've got a 1inch wide flickering bar on the right side of the screen.

I've tried reseating the connectors under the keyboard, and checking out the back of the LCD panel itself. I'm looking for possible solutions or suggestions, or even a possible cause.

if it's using the ssame screens as the m17 then yes it's dual to be sure you could use hwinfo32 to get the lcd code out and google it

Hmm.. Thank you for the responses. What would need to be replaced? The entire screen?

it might also be the inverter so it depends but if it's the ccfl you would need to change the lcd pannel

Ok. Thanks for the help everyone!

Short Story: The problem is indeed the screen itself.

Long Story: 5 years ago, I purchased a Sager, D900. It died a year after I purchased it, and I gutted it. Being a packrat, I kept everything, including the screen.

I compared the screen of my old Sager, and the screen of the Alienware. Both were LP171, but the Alienware was 1900 x 2000, the old screen was 1680x1050. And the screen that was sitting in the basement collecting dust.. worked in the Alienware. No issues, looks as great as it did 4 years ago. SO I'm good for now, but will likely check online periodically for my old screen in good shape.

I can't complain (much) The new screen works, looks good, no dead pixels.. And my games will run a touch better at a lower resolution!

Actually, hwinfo did not tell me the part number. To get it, I had to look at the back of the screen itself. The full part number is LP171WU1(A4)(K4).

that's odd maybe it's because the part was not working properly that it was not able to retrive data

Possibly. hwinfo does report the new screen, which is LP171W02-A4.
