Good afternoon guys, I recently was givin from a friend a51 m9750, Knew I was coming back to gaming so he gave it to me to play and use. He has it fully updated to 4 gigs and also has new lcd monitor. Running 7950 sli etc

I need help trying to update the cards ( for better peformance ) and update the processor seeing how this processor only recongize 2.5 gigs instead of the full 4 gigs.

So what windows/processors/graphics card are available to run it to get it going full core?

    Specs : t7600
    7950gtx sli
    4 gigs
    Windows 7 ulitmate 32bit

    Games played:
CS:GO ( as long as i get more then 90 fps during gun fight im cool )
    Dota 1 & 2

I will also be dvi this to a 1ms-5ms monitor so its better on my eyes also

Thank you for your help and look forward to hearing from you all on your opinions.

In short it is not easy to update these things. Lots of trial & error to see what is compatible with a lot of reselling parts on ebay.

For video cards the AMD 3870 from a M15x has been confirmed to work in your system. They are also easy to find on ebay. The best cards out there would be a mxm 2.1 AMD 4850/4870 or a GTX 280. Those will be harder to find, have yet to be tested (to my knowledge) in your model, and will cost more.

For CPU things get easier. Grab a T7600G on ebay (if you want the slight overclocking performance boost) and you will be all set. Usually 1-3 of them listed on ebay when I search. You will pay about $125.

As far as ram goes its odd you only see 2.5GB. You have a 32-bit system so no matter what you will not be able to use a fill 4GB but should be a lot closer with windows at least showing 3GB+ as usable. Pop both sticks out, make sure both really do say 2GB each on them and perhaps run Memtest86+ (free download) for at least one full pass and make sure both sticks are error free.

Last performance boost you will get is throwing in an SSD if you have the cash.

As far as OS go either Win 7, 8, or Linux (more and more new Steam games are compatible) depending on what you like. Win 7 is my preference.

Lastly, 90 fps really? haha. The human eye can only see a fraction of that and most people call hitting 60 fps perfect

I gave you a few options, what one were you looking for? Like I said the 3870 is reliable, known to work in your unit, cheap, performs good for that generation of laptops, and is easy to find. A 4870/4850 would be better and are also reliable but are the opposite of everything else listed above haha.

One guy is selling 3 4850's on ebay now but they are expensive. You need a MXM 2.1 4850. I think your 9750 has the extra space for the little "HE" tab on these cards. My 5750 does not so it was even harder to find a 4850 that didn't have the tab and would fit.

What WhiteAlien said. Look for a 3870, they can be had for $100 or so and are all over ebay. a GTX 280 will probably be in the same price range as a 4850/70

Just an FYI on the RAM: You are limited by the chipset in the m9750 to approximately the same maximum as a 32 bit OS, so installing a 64 bit OS would NOT increase the amount of RAM that could be used.
Additionally, the video memory counts against the limit, which is why you're seeing something like 2.5 GB usable.

For what it's worth, you could easily build a more powerful desktop for what a video card is going to cost you to upgrade the m9750. I have one and they were great machines, but their time is very much over for the latest AAA titles.

I gave my m9750 to a friend of mine that lives overs seas. I had some of the same problems as you did. If I remember right the ram limit can go up with a bios flash. I will check and see what that unit is running. You still won't be able to run the full 4GB though. Mine had a single 8700. It started going out so after looking at possible upgrades I decided to get a newer laptop for travel and wound up with a m11x.

Being socket M not socket P kills any real upgrades on this unit. Windows 7 64 bit ran fine on my except the web cam. Tried a lot of stuff to get it to work but never could under windows 7.

My friend gets back on the rig today. I will see what bios I was using and how much ram.
