    Hi guys,

I own an all original area 51 m7700 since 2005 which now sits in my office as a show peice. I used it heavily for gaming in its first two years so it went back to AW in 2007 for a complete warranty overhaul including mb, hd, and extra ram up to 2 gb. Since then, she's been a show peice only! But works perfectly!

Although I run several much more newer machines, For nostalgic reasons, I've been thinking of bringing her back as my main machine so I am wondering if it is possible to replace the hd with a ssd.

    I'm planning on running xp.

Thanks in advance for any response.

Hello, Cdnalien, yes it is possible to install a SSD In it assuming you have the SATA connectors.
My advice is to not go for an expensive one because your system won't take full advantage of it.

Find yourself a nice 2nd generation Intel of your preffered size and you should be good to go.

Actually, I was wrong. It is an IDE. Can you find SSDs with IDE connection? Everything I find has been discontinuted...

I didn't even know SSD's were made for IDE. It would certainly NOT be worth the price though due to how much the IDE interface would restrict the SSD. You most likely wouldn't see a difference between the SSD and the HDD.

I did research this point and it pretty much depends who you talk too- some say the IDE will restrict it and others say it won't...In the end, its not that important since I can't seem to find an IDE SSD...So, I have decided to just go with a new larger capacity regular hdd
