Hi all
I'm looking for m15x "old BIOSs"; typ before X32.
When receiving my m15x from Alienware, I've one of this old BIOS with quiet fans setup. Unfortunately because of technical problem, I've upgrade to X32 without backup: no effect on the problem but X32 is more noisy. I would like to check the downgrade.
If anyone of you is able to post, thank you.

x32 is the oldest one.

Aie ! Thank you.
When receiving my m15x r-1 few years ago, it's was based on XP. Stealth mode was usable an very quiet.
Now, with Win 7 64, stealth mode is unusable and, unfortunately, no power supply mode give so quiet result.
I was thinking it's because of X32 BIOS.

Interesting !
I correct my too short explaination: Your right, on mine, Stealth mode is usable and has good effect on fan noise.
But if, when in stealth mode, you go to hibernate, it's impossible to get CPU full speed when out of hibernate (what I do everyday). You've to reboot to recover full speed.
I've tried BIOS X32 & X36 (forget X34!) and problem remains the same.
Interested in any idea (?).

Firstly I think you mean GPU (Graphics Card Processor = NVIDIA) not CPU (Central Processor = Intel).
I don't ever use hibernate on my m15x-R1 but that sounds annoying to have to restart the computer just to get the GPU out of stealth mode.
So I'm assuming you've tried coming-out of hibernation in Windows 7 then turning stealth mode off-on-off again to see if it fixes itself? At the very least this would mean at least then you wouldn't have to restart the whole computer.
I think another thing you should check is that if this is a Windows 7 hibernation issue and not an m15x-R1 issue? Just a thought... -
No, I'm talking about CPU speed measured by CPU-Z: on my "old" m15x-r1, high speed is 2,2 Ghz and "stealth" speed is 790 MHz.
When out of hibernate (if stealth mode was on when going into), CPU is locked on 790 MHz whatever the position of stealth mode button.
It may be an issue of Win 7 hibernate mode ... (was ok when XP)

I always thought stealth mode only effected the GPU clock speeds and not CPU clock speeds but then I read this, perhaps it will help you:

It seems the CPU multiplies is effected by stealth mode. -
Stealth mode affects primarily CPU, you SHOULD NEVER RUN YOUR EXTERNAL CARD 24/7. This is a bad idea because you will for sure burn your GPU out. These systems have a history of burning out GPU's especially the 8800's and the 9800's. There are multiple threads, cases, and incidents recorded on the internet as well as on here about this issue occurring. I would highly suggest you utilize the fn F7 key regularly, and if you're tired of the Bootup's get an SSD to speed the process up and have little complaints about as I have thus done.
Stealth Mode should also really only be needed when web-browsing/writing a word document, although MS office does seem affected when running stealth mode as well as heavy webpages that utilize alot of video and flash. I use windows 7 64-bit on my system and never use Stealth Mode really unless I'm on battery, and I'm usually on the Intel GPU as well. I almost NEVER use my 9800m GT combined with Stealth Mode. It's either Gaming Mode or not. -
Thank you for the tips.
I've two different ways of using my m15x :
Sometimes gaming : full CPU speed & external GPU - don't care about blowing fans !
Every day working : stealth mode & internal GPU - minimum fan noise.
When stealth mode off & normal use, Alien fusion is able to drive CPU speed; mainly 780 MHz and sometimes short peaks to 2 GHz. In such conditions, I suspect X32 bios to be very "conservative" and fans are sometimes very noisy (even when not working and very often if cover is closed !) Less noise in Stealth mode but I've to disable it before hibernate.
Reason why I was interested in testing X29 BIOS (CPU T8100 - GPU GeF8700, no risk of overheating ! I've said it's an "old" one !).
