It is perfectly fine for most people. Don't try to belittle people just because they have a Mac and you are so superior because you have a PC. It makes you look like a tool
No optical drive. It will be a 1.3 GHz Core 2 Duo with 3MB L2 Cache and 800 MHz FSB. Not sure on memory, could be either DDR2 or DDR3. DDR3 would be better for battery life

yes fine for people like my grandmother who is a noob. nothing wrong with being a noob
-
My feeling instict tell me that M11x will be runs a great and problem-free over 15x and 17x... They werent hurry to release it unlike MS hurried to relased the crappy RODDD XB360 .. Then *example* me why M11x passed by FCC, If you do care ? Mmm
-
I gotta say, even though you supposedly wont read it, going to a message board and posting a question without searching is usually frowned upon.
Posting in a thread full of answers and information, asking a question thats been asked and answered repeatedly, and stating that you arn't going to bother to look for yourself comes off as lazy, rude, condescending, etc.
You started it by posting a "hey I'm not going to bother helping myself" post, so don't go getting butthurt over some one calling you out on it.
Also, @Phinagle... i lold. -
I haven't read along every single page but what happened to all the assurances that the FINAL version M11x will contain a Core i3/5 instead of an aging Core 2 ULV?
-
There was never once any assurance made by anyone from Dell or Alienware, other then "Under $1000 fully decked out"
They showed the concept form factor, said it would have a 335m GPU with 1GB, and some other stuff, but never mentioned CPU, RAM, HDD and so on. -
Just wait till it's out for pre-order and everything will be answered.
The Culv is not that bad, some people see the low speed and get scared off but as stated before if it can run most new games at around 30FPS at high settings is awesome for such a small form factor.
It will be the most powerful "gaming" laptop at that size.
We all know it's not going to replace a 15/17 inch laptop for speed and performance but will be much, much easier to take it on the road.
That is what most people are interested in this laptop in the first place.(I am anyway -see sig for my other laptop
)
I'm getting one and realize it will have some limitations for gaming but I can live with not having the best FPS, as long as games run at a good clip is good enough for me.
I have been waiting for a laptop like this for a while plus it looks very cool.
-
WAT!? I thought the general consensus from what Dell has hinted is that it'll be a C2D ULV. Since when did it switch to an i3?
-
Hu no optical drive?? how are we going to play games then... Did I mis something here?
-
they cant fit an optical drive in an 11 inch machine
-
He was obviously joking around with the angry guy
It is NOT an i3 ULV (no such thing) hence the joke.
-
external USB drive, networked drive from another computer, ISO mounting, steam.... theres a lot of ways. You dont NEED a ODD to play games.
with 500GB drives you could technically format two partitions and have a 250GB ISO storage drive that wont get formatted if you need to format.
I hope theres an SDD though (im sure there will be an option) -
That ISO storage your talking about, is that some kind of storage where you just copy the disks content to so you don't need to use a disc while playing? Just guessing here..
-
External optical drive is your best bet
-
Kid, you need to get your facts right. Macs are as much for the average user as a PC, and as much for a computer pro as a PC. They have their own merits and uses.
I personally wouldn't touch a Mac, but that's because gaming is one of the things they don't do.
Their laptops are nothing short of brilliant with superb build quality, an incredible battery with very good power, an excellent screen, as well as being very thin and light.
If anything, YOU'RE the noob here
He was being sarcastic
To answer both your questions...
An ISO file is basically an image of a disk stored on your hard drive. There are various programs (some free, some not) that can rip an ISO file from a disk, burn an ISO file to a disk, but the magic of it is the ability to mount it onto a 'virtual drive'. This makes it look to the computer like the real disk is inserted in a real disk drive.
Of course there are other options. Most games nowadays don't need a disk to play, and of course digital games from the likes of Steam don't. For those that do, either mount an ISO file of the disk using a virtual drive program (I'd recommend MagicDisk, free and 100% functional) or get a no-CD crack for the game. (The producer can't argue against you using a no-CD crack if you've paid for the game)
EDIT: OH yes, forgot to mention: External USB DVD drive to install the games in the first place and rip the ISO. lol -
I'm a big steam user, so no ODD should be okay. I don't use mine very often at all since I rock digital music, games, and movies, but having an ODD is always nice. But even still, if I get the M11x, it'd be my main computer as I would be selling this Sager to get it (stupid??) and no ODD and small screen are both still holding me back =T
-
The last time I used my disk drive was weeks ago to install Windows 7. All my games are either digital (or at least digitally downloadable, i.e. those registered to Steam) or have no-CD cracks on them
I REALLY wouldn't recommend selling your Sager to get one. Your Sager is far superior. Unless you're desperate for the portability and battery of the M11x, it's not a good idea to use as your main system.
If I get one (which hopefully I am) then my M17 will still be my main system. -
Well if they can't fit a dvd combo cd drive then why can't they have more ports?
-
Thank you for your opinion. Portability and battery life are both something I've been missing I guess, since I had a 13.3 Macbook and got into a HUGE gaming phase or whatever and went back to PC first via SXPS 1640 then this Sager. Now that the M11x comes around that provides ample gaming power with battery/portability-size, it intrigues me greatly. Truth is, portability is not one of my main needs, nor battery life, but those two are one of those -- nice to have type of things, that I would compromise for.
The reason I'm considering this is b/c I've been missing something I could bring around on the couch or bed and use since I prefer not to with my Sager due to some heat/battery. I've thought about just a cheap netbook or even an iPod touch for in bed video and browsing, but the M11x keeps coming back =T. Due to my current living situation and finances, having two laptops in my apt won't really work for me nor having a desktop due to space. Luckily I still have some time to think this over. -
It's got 3 USB ports, 3 audio in/out jacks, VGA, HDMI, Displayport, ethernet, firewire, and a card reader. That's not a bad range of connectivity, especially when you consider what some ultraportables have (the MacBook Air with its single USB port and headphone jack).
What more did you want? -
More ports still take up more room inside as well, as there's need for extra circuit boards inside to hold the extra ports.
The M11x already has an incredible selection of ports-more than some ordinary 15" notebooks. For a netbook sized laptop, the selection of ports is exceptional.
I can see why you'd like something with more portability and battery life, that's for sure.
While the M11x would be quite a bit slower than your current Sager, if you're prepared to drop that extra bit then it should do quite well.
I suppose what you could also do is buy an extra, fairly sized monitor (21" or so) to counter the screen size, for when you game on a desk. -
Just wondering, will this be able to replace my aging satellite pro p25 s676?
By replace I mean will it be able to run the games I currently run which are generally RTSs? (ex. Dawn of War Soulstorm and the such) quick specs on the laptop are pentium 4 3.2 ghz HT and nvidia fx5700 go (no support for the gfx chip any more)
Just a random tidbit: windows 7 rates my gfx card at a 1... -
It should provide a massive improvement. While RTSs are heavily CPU reliant (and the M11x only has a 1.3GHz Core 2 Duo-still better than your P4 processor though) you're on a bloody fx5700. The GT335M will perform tens of times better in graphics than that.
The M11x should play all current games, even if on low settings, and even then that's very very few games that it could only play on low. -
It will be on the web for sale by 2-5-10. Shooting for 2-2 but 2-5 at the latest
-
Where did you get the date from, and how firm is it?
-
Its a pretty solid confirmation, things can always change, but if you ask around I am pretty legit if I post it.
-
Sounds good man.
-
I'd go with these dates if Darkhan says so
Thanks for the estimate man. -
I asked because I did not want to have that date come and go and see no signs of it for sale on the website.
-
oh, do you guys think/know if Bluetooth will be on these machines? Was thinking about it since I just got the Orochi...
-
Not cool to joke around like that... Got my hopes up
-

okay I saw this and it finally shows real frames per second, for Street Fighter IV. The settings aren't known though but it shows avg 73FPS.. noice! I don't have SFIV, so I dunno if it's that demanding or not.
there are the recommended, not minimum, so yeah goes in line w/ what the system offers. Still cool to see it actually performing quite well -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I would trust Darkhan
And personally, that date sounds pretty good to me
-
He mentioned something interesting that I hadnt heard anywhere before, it "includes a SIM card slot"......is this true? That would be cool though I'm not sure if its better than tethering.
Also, I haven't seen bluetooth mentioned anywhere...anyone know about this too?
cheers -
Dakhan is plenty legit
good to see you back here
Should shoot me a PM now and then -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
trust darkhan here too
-
Thanks guys
The date could change but as of now that's a solid confirmation. If I hear of any changes I will let you know?
-
sure if you want to
We do like drop in from time to time -
Would someone kindly tell me who exactly Mr. Darkhan is? I am new and I need to know!
-
Darkhan is Keyser Soze.
-
Usual Suspects?
-
If they deliver a small notebook that can score 6,000 in 3dmark06 without OCing I'll get one.
But as of now I am doubtful of the claims made.
We'll know if a couple of weeks. -
When will the next contest winner be notified?
-
picardfacepalm.jpg
-
Darkhan can you perhaps give us some insight as to why they are being secretive about the rest of the m11x specs?
Unknown CPU options
Unknown HDD options (these are obvious though)
Unknown RAM options (2,4,6,8??? DDR2 or DDR3???)
There are a few areas that they wouldn't touch on... maybe its just to ramp up the hype but I personally dislike this type of marketing so meh. -
I do not know the answers to these questions either? I can ask tomorrow and see if it is ok to post them here?
-
Well generally CULV device max out at 4GB of ram but a few like the first revision of Vaio TT officially supported 4gb of ram, but 6gb of ram was possible, the latest revision officially supports 8gb of ram. I can't say if any other CULV laptop has 8gb of support(other than possibly the Vaio G3), but it is possible.
-
Someone should let Job's and company know this, they use this method as an advertising tool.
-
Excellent movie.
-
even if you can only post the reason WHY they arn't releasing specs (i.e. still confirming specs via testing CPU/RAM and other HW configurations) would make me happy, though I'd hope that'd have been done by now if they are releasing in less then 30 days!
