I too ordered a refurb, and it has come to me with no noticeable problems, issues, or even use. Looks brand new. The hinge looks like it might be a little wobbly, but no noise. -
-
Called Dell and they're sending me a new charger as we speak since they sent me the old generic large one.
-
It is nice for finding the end of the cable on the floor when you're in a dark room. If they're letting you keep the one that was originally sent then consider that a huge bonus. You can never have too many AC adapters in my book.
-
I think it's more likely they are sending him another 65W adaptor, not the 90W adaptor the R2 has. My m11xr1 adaptor was tiny, but hot, compared to my m1210's 65W adaptor (compatible with the m11x). I've had a larger Dell 90W adaptor, too....
At any rate the 90W R2 charger is rather wide, sortof like a flattened brick.
The R1 adaptor is much smaller than it. -
i just received my refurb m11x R1, unfortunately they sent the power adapter!! I dont know for what laptop this is but i wont fit on this notebook.. LAME! Now i need to spend hours talking to customer service... ugh...
At least its in mint condition...
Alex -
Does the adaptor end look like a "D" or an "O"?
The D is used on older laptops Dell had (in particular, the Latitude line - I am not sure if they are still used).
The O is used on consumer laptops (Inspiron, XPS, All Powerful, etc). -
Strange as it may sound... its shaped as an octagon :S what does that mean?! hahaha
Alex -
On the laptop end, shaped like an octagon means it's the "O" shape. On the adaptor end... I am lost
-
Exactly! imagine how I feel! lol
Alex -
got my R1 today, laptop looks brand new but the left speaker's light doesn't work, i called and they're going to send a tech to replace it......
btw does anyone receive Original box? mine only with regular card board box lol -

My m11x r2 came today. I am on the road until Friday but since my order I have been educated on the hinge issue. Now I do not know if I should even open the box when I get home. Rather just set up a return. Do they charge a restocking fee if it's not opened?
I wanted this laptop bad but everytime I use it I will feel like it's a ticking bomb waiting to break. This sucks. -
My refurbished M11xR2 arrived in pristine condition last week, and I've been extremely happy with its performance.
I can run Just Cause 2 beautifully now, unlike the Studio XPS 13 that I'm now selling.
Give it a chance. I absolutely love this thing, and it is worth every penny of the $890 (w/tax and shipping) I paid for it. -
My hinge felt really strong, absolute love this beast accept for one speaker's light not working, run most of the latest game on high with avg 30fps.

I received my m11x r2 through the mail yesterday (at boyfriend's house)... I haven't had the chance to look at it yet, but I was just wondering - if something is amiss, is this the number I would call (found it on the tech support on dell.com's website) [ 1-800-ALIENWARE ]? Not too worried as I'm in no rush, and it sounds like the customer service is mostly awesome so far with refurbs.

Under your reasoning, best not buy a Toyota, or any automobile of any kind, or better worse drive one...or fly in a plane, or leave the house...
I have owned upwards of 50 laptops over the years, dating from the first ones.
In many ways I find the M11x the best all around laptop of them all. And my 630.00 refurb is used upwards of 8 hours a day, travels constantly, and I've yet to experience a hiccup. At the price I'm not aware of anything remotely comparable that comes close.
Let us all know what you decide to buy instead and how it works out.

Questions on this, PM me. -
Everything looks nice, no scratches that I can see at a quick glance. Haven't run any benches on it or anything but it starts up pretty quickly (sadly no SSD, was trying to downgrade and cut costs from my original m11xr2 i7 SSD). The box that it comes in makes me LoLs but it's here with no damage that has caught my eye as of yet. For those of you that can't stand any of the scratches I suggest buying a vinyl covering (you can choose a nice graphic too
!), they go for about $30 with shipping on eBay from this one seller that I purchased mine from. I don't feel like searching for it just right now but it's not hard to find, there's a large selection. Errr... but yeah, with the 25% discount coupon that I had and the laptop being a refurb, it was really worth it so far I think.
-
I just got mine last week.
It was in great condition but there were a few small quarter inch small minute scratches on the top but thats about it. Nothing major.
I was disappointed that it didn't come in a nice alienware box w/ the nice cover that comes with the new ones. I know its a small gripe but still.
I only went with the dell outlet cause I didn't feel like waiting forever for one.
Specs:
Intel i5 / 250GB / 4GB Ram / bt / paid about $1021 after taxes and overnight shipping. -
woah... I paid about 970usd for my sigrig (minus the SSD) and that was after cali "envoirment" tax and overnight shipping....
The thing is, last week there was a 25% off coupon, ending the 22nd, iirc... -
The coupon is still good -- the expiration dates often seem to be a gimmick (much like the coupons themselves) to create a sense of urgency so people will buy instead of taking 2 weeks to think about it and shop around.
I just bought an i7, 320gb HDD, 4gb ram, BT, win 7 home for $809 after the 25% off, and I'm guessing you'll still be able to get the same price once the "coupon" is gone... even if it takes a few phone calls to do it. -
After 45 mins on the phone with dell they placed the order to send me the correct power adapter.
Just to save you some time in case you need to reach them (hopefully not), here is the direct phone number so they dont transfer you call 3 times to the wrong departments..

Quick question... Do you have to charge the battery for x amount of hours before using it or can you use it straight out of the box?
Alex -
Its generally a good idea to fully charge the first time before running on battery but if you purchased a refurb it most likely has been before.
Of course you can use any laptop while charging. -
Sweet, thanks!

Bleh, I was looking for pricing on a refurb i7 (couldn't find so I ordered an i5), but I guess it's too late now (or is it?). All I could find were core 2 duo's and i5's. Oh well, I'm keeping what I have... with TS and a desktop I'm fine.

Has anyone called to ask about a free extended warranty due to the hinge issue? I saw some people mention earlier in the thread that Dell reps were willing to offer ~$100 credit if they threatened to return the refurbished unit, but I don't think anyone mentioned getting a warranty extension. Seems like there isn't much difference since the warranty is $129?
I found the exact R2 I wanted on Wednesday night but when I clicked on it there were actually three listed, so I figured I had some time to think about it. 9am yesterday I look again and ALL three were gone. I refreshed the site every 15 minutes for most of the day and one finally popped up again around 5pm -- other than that it was all i5 ones. -
Hey guys i got this AC adapter, different from my last R2, should i call for an replacement?

Upto you. That's Dell's older adaptor design, abheit, they used to utilize a different input cable (more portable).

mostly i just want some money back... not into taking this thing apart and selling it in pieces... would return it to dell and get a refund, don't even mind the restocking fee so much - but it's been about 1 and a half months so it's too late now i think. i figure if i buy a refurb without the ssd it'll be cheaper as well (especially with the 25% discount... although with the price increase, probably a bit less in actual, but still i think i'm getting something off). i'm building a custom desktop now so i won't need as much power for my mobile, so yeah... just doing it for the money
. turns out that ordering parts = annoying. really happy with my refurb so far - 700 and i5, 250 gb hdd. idk... maybe i should've went about this in another way, but this is what happened lols.
edit: if there's an easier and more cost effective way about doing thing, please let me know lols... i would love to just get this done with:| -

debating if I should order one I really need a laptop for college that i can game on, should I get this or do u think ill find a better deal/newer cheaper faster parts by January?
-
I jumped on this deal to upgrade my slowly degrading Gateway laptop I bought a couple years ago. However I definitely think there will be better deals come Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
-
I just told them the dp/n (part number) (you can fin this on your power brick) and that it wasnt compatible and they placed an order (free) for the new one.
Good luck
Alex -
if you need one for college and want something to game on... well sure you can wait and hope that newer/faster/cheaper stuff comes along, but if you need it now i say get it now... with tech advancing as fast as it is nowadays, trying to future-proof a laptop is really silly actually... i upgrade about every 1 1/2 years haha... but now i have a desktop so i'll just upgrade it in parts to stay with the times (and be able to afford it) and keep my m11x as my mobile computer... doesn't really need to be upgraded if i'm just using it for internet browsing and travel/college

Can't wait to read the OP's comments when the product arrives!

I am still happy with mine. No issues, screen hinges are fine. Pc hs been on for weeks. I rarely shut it off. It sits here and is a great additio to the TV room.

^Yeah, I gotcha. I didn't want to go that route if I didn't have to... but if that what it takes, I'll do it.
I called back, and in order to replace the adapter, he wanted do some sort of screen sharing thing between my computer and theirs so they could "verify" the problem with the adapter. I told him I would think about it and call back later.... -
Good luck with your problem
Alex
