How well does it run on the M11x?
-
-
i am trying the game at 1152x648 and it feels better so i might stick with it.
-
awesome game... Awesome graphics... my m11x is burning...
-
i have the feeling the M11x is still getting raped though and not the other way round.
-
OK, I bumped the resolution down to 1024x576 (PAL DVD widescreen resolution if it were square pixels) and the fps got a nice bump and it still looks good...shame i have to bump it so low but then i bumped it down to 1680x1050 on my desktop and it still looks good.....for an 11.6" screen.
added the res as a custom res in the intel gpu so glad the game can read it. -

@All - A guy released a really nice Crysis2 configuration tool. My advice would be to try each setting at the universal level, disable AF, MSAA, FSAA and enabled max edge anti-aliasing and have fun.

StevenX essentially just killed any discussion about the game by linking that config tool.

Don't even get me started on the controls. The new nanosuit is gimped compared to the old nanosuit. -
@ Arak-Nafien
Wow! A very informative post. Thank you! +rep for sure.
I don't disagree with any of this necessarily, especially now that I'm close to finishing the SP campaign.
I played Crysis 1 and Warhead under the same conditions, my desktop hooked up to my 60" Pioneer Kuro Elite via HDMI. And this is how I'm playing Crysis 2. Under those conditions, Crysis 2 looked better than Warhead to mine and my buddy's eyes who works in the industry and has pretty discerning eyes.
That doesn't mean it refutes what you're saying at all. I think what you wrote is pretty sound and factual and hard to argue with.
There's probably no credible logic to this, but I'm wondering if the second game looked better to us, because it's designed for a more for console oriented conditions, and being that's how I've played them all, the second one just looks better under those conditions? (with a XBox 360 pad for Windows and PC hooked up via HDMI to a 1080p Plasma)
I don't know how much difference it makes, but I sit pretty close to my screen considering when I game, about 4-6 feet. Conversely, the recommended viewing distance for the panel is 8-11 feet. But It's still not 18-36 inches like sitting in front of a monitor.
The only thing I take issue with on your post is the comparison pics. Still shots of the game showing how much more pretty it is, doesn't matter if that game can only run an average of 15-30fps on most systems, compared to the new one which runs a solid 60fps under the same system (at least mine)
Now if you can get the first two games running at a solid 60fps looking as good as the still shots you posted under the same system conditions of the second one, then I'd be in complete agreement with you and amending my first statement.
Also, to be fair, this comparison shouldn't really be made until the DX11 patch is released as these shots are done in DX10. Now, if they never release the patch, then just by that alone, the first two games get the prize for better looking. But if they do release the patch and it makes up the difference and still blazes at 60fps, then I don't think saying the first games look better still holds merit.
I understand what you mean about feeling the Nanosuit is gimped, but personally I don't agree. It's not gimped at all, just refined. Power/Super Strength is still there, but rather than being selectable, it's automatic whether it's a melee attack or super jump. That's one less menu selection I have to make in the middle of a firefight. Same thing with Super Speed.
Weapon customization is still there, but rather than making it a part of the suit choice "wheel" they just gave it a key binding.
I'm still really enjoying the game, but the biggest issue I have with it right now is the story and the choices they made on how to connect it with the first game and Warhead and the corresponding characters. Wasted potential imho.
I also searched for this thread to see how the game was still running for people. I just tried it on my M11x and it crashed harder than anything yet while running the CPU and GPU Overclocked, where every other game works fine.
Using the new 270 beta drivers. Setting the FSB back and GPU clocks at default, the game runs pretty smooth, but chops in some places. I can't get Fraps to register on the screen to properly gauge, but I'd wager it's between 20-40fps. Probably more on the lower side though. I'm a little disappointed. Based on how well the MP demo ran on my system, I thought I'd get better results with the SP campaign. But it is still playable.
My G73JH with it's AMD 5870m GPU doesn't run the game much better, even with 4gb of ram, an I7-920q, and the 5870. That should make M11x owners feel pretty good! -
this is only if i set it to 576p, graphics on high, no v-sync. it's still playable so no big deal but it did crash the m11x where i needed to hard reboot....still have no idea what caused it (i did have the CPU set to 140MHz at the time so i've put it back to stock just to see if that does it and it's still playable). -
You do make a good point. The art direction in C2 is much more pleasing to the eye, compared to the more "sterile" look of the first game. Part of that is the overuse(in my opinion) of bloom & HDR. They give you much more moments where you come out of darkness & into the light, sun shining in your eyes giving that cool-looking effect. (I actually prefer the "sterile" look from Crysis. It's because of the awesome textures that makes it so sharp looking & detailed....which C2 lacks a lot of.)
The part where I take issue is that they are using the bloom and HDR to "cover up" some of the not-so-nice-looking areas......but we could nit-pick any game out there to the same degree. It just sucks that C1 was so innovative & pushed the technology boundaries......when C2 takes a step backwards in that regard. I must also give credit where it is due; they've added some new shader stuff as well as the global immumination to CryEngine 3. That stuff is nice.....but at the cost of reducing everything else? I do take issue with that.
I also agree that the new nanosuit is more "streamlined/refined" but the issue I have is that they did so at the cost of robustness. You say the strength & speed are automatic now.....that's one of my issues. I prefer being able to selectively choose when & where my STR & speed activate. Not to mention the Speed mode in C1 was MUUUUCH more effective.
For example, in Crysis 1, you had many different movement speeds:
Prone-crawling, crouched, walking, sprinting, speed-walking, & speed sprinting. The speed mode had a passive increase in your normal walking speed.....not to mention your punching speed, reloading speed, weapon swap speeds.....pretty much everything was sped up under speed mode. (As opposed to C2 where all that has been dumbed down to "Press shift to run fast")
STR mode was the same way. For example, tossing the bad guys around, you had a couple of different options as to how far you wanted to throw them....depending on which combination of STR mode, throwing, & meleeing you did. (If you want to throw them far & hard, use STR mode & do a melee bash after you've picked them up in a chokehold(This throws them much harder than normal strength throw, allowing you to knock down groups of enemies or buildings). If you wish to simply "grab & throw" quickly you could do so without STR mode at all. This is effective at temporarily controlling one guy while you moved onto the next one. It was also a quick way of eliminating an enemy on-the-fly without using suit energy or ammunition. (As opposed to in C2 where it got dumbed down to you holding "T" for strong hits & holding "Space" for high-jumps)
The old nanosuit was much more robust & allowed for many more options of how you wanted to handle things. The new nanosuit is "streamlined" but you lose a lot of those options. Not to mention, just about every action you take uses up suit energy in some form or another. The new suit modules are neat, tho.(single player)
Also, I don't appreciate the game treating me like an idiot & showing me my "tactical options".....I'm not a genius.....but I think I can handle the tactics myself......it's especially bad when you're standing next to a vehicle & one of your tactical options is to get into that vehicle..... *facepalm* If they're going to go that far.....why not just let the game play on auto-pilot for me? Why even play at all? I don't want a "canned" option that the developer put into the game. I want to make my own tactics! It's much more rewarding trying to come up with ways to do things that the devs never intended.
Another one of my major issues is the lack of Sandbox editor. Nothing else to say about that....just disappointed that there's not a new editor to take advantage of the new tech in C2.....and without Sandbox, you cannot have awesome modes like THIS (That mod is made entirely within the flowgraph editor inside of Sandbox2. It's not for everyone....but you gotta admit it's pretty beautiful. It doesn't affect my FPS very much, either)
So, I leave you guys with this video. This is showing someone with some decent skill controlling the nanosuit in the first game. He's very effective at using the different modes & he's pretty quick at switching back & fourth. (Even tho he's using the suit menu. i prefer the suit-shortcuts. They are much faster IMO. Especially since my setup has the STR, ARMOR, & speed mode linked to the clutch, brake, & Gas pedals on my Logitech G25. Hands-free suit changes.)
