Are you using Throttlestop to test or wPrime? I get around 43-46 seconds when I use Throttlestop's 32M benching. Not sure why that is, maybe the creator can enlighten us.

im using throttle stop test. maybe its different to the wPrime test...?

Just tested DOW2 with it on, not really any noticeable difference in framerate... will see what happens with more play time.

My best score for TS with the 32M test is 46, I guess the people with 30 seconds and that are i7 owners, I also have i5

    They are different.

When I use wPrime benchmarking 32M I get 29 seconds.
When I use Throttlestop benchmarking 32M I get 43-46 seconds.

Go download wPrime and try with that.

EIST / SpeedStep should in most cases be left on.
People turn it off for the wrong reasons.

Q-fays: Try posting a screen shot of ThrottleStop while you are running 4 threads of the 32M TS Bench test. Your problem sounds totally unrelated to ThrottleStop.

You can upload images to www.imageshack.us and then post a link here so we can have a look and help you out. You can also run a ThrottleStop log file while you are gaming and upload that to www.mediafire.com so we can have a look at that. We can't help you if we don't have some data to look at.

The temperatures also seem to be wrong by 5-10 Celsius in the newest version. I compared it to CPU-Z and MooMonitor and both of those are the same where as ThrottleStop is always 5-10 degrees higher. I just ended turning it off for temp monitoring.

    Hi everyone

Just tried this whole process for the first time but cant seem to overclock my i7 past 154mhz without it crashing.
I have my TS settings as:
    TDP/TDC -50/50
    Force TDP/TDC - 8
    Set Multiplier - 11 (turbo)

I did try turning Speed stepper off and got to 166mhz but it kept crashing out when i started TS.

Any advice how i can get more out of this little demon and what im missing or doing wrong would be very much appreciated

unfortunately each machine seems to be different and theres not really alot you can do about it. some people cant even get it to go to 154mhz. i'm quite lucky mine goes to 167mhz and never crashed. i guess thats the way the cookie crumbles.

Not all CPU's will be able to OC to 166. It's common for some to fall short. I wouldn't sweat it. OC to whatever is stable and use ThrottleStop.

Did you consider that maybe ThrottleStop is reporting your temperatures more accurately so that's why it's reporting a higher number than the competition?

ThrottleStop gets GPU temperature information directly from the GPU driver. It runs at a higher priority than most monitoring programs so when your laptop is heavily loaded while gaming, it might be providing you a more accurate temperature number and it can do this without excessively loading your CPU or GPU.

If you think you have found a problem, post some screen shots so I can have a look. CPU and GPU core temperatures can change very rapidly when the load is not consistent. Use a program like Furmark to create a consistent load when testing different monitoring programs.

When reading the temps of my ATI desktop GPU or Nvidia mobile GPU, it seems OK.

As mentioned above, ThrottleStop's GPU temperatures are coming directly from the Nvidia or ATI driver. All the bloat and wasted CPU cycles are because of inefficient temperature monitoring code within the driver which is out of my control. The TS Bench is very sensitive to any bloatware on your computer so it makes this problem look a lot worse than it is. During gaming, I don't believe that GPU temperature monitoring will be sucking a significant number of your CPU cycles. Maybe 0.1%, if that.

Maybe I'm wrong. Why not run some 3D gaming time demo benchmarks, that are free to download, and post your results with and without GPU monitoring turned on.

If you think GPU monitoring is sucking 10% of your CPU, it's not, but it's easy enough to turn it off if you don't want it.

The best test is to run ThrottleStop with the Start Minimized option checked. Start it before going to bed and when you wake up in the morning, open up the Task Manger, select the CPU Time column, and see how much processor time TS has consumed. It's really not that bad, especially when you consider the performance increase it provides to the M11x-R2. Maybe start CPU-Z at the same time and minimize it over night so you will have something to compare to.

If you are using the TS Bench feature and you run a bunch of bench tests then it's going to chew up a lot of CPU cycles but when it is minimized to the system tray, it is very efficient.

You can use TS to disable turbo boost from within Windows. That's what the Disable Turbo option is all about. :)

I got zero feedback about TS Junior so I assumed it wasn't important so I moved on to other projects. The Sandy Bridge transition has kept me busy lately but I'll put TS Junior back on the things to do list.

Q-fays: I need to see the ThrottleStop program and the monitoring part while this benchmark test is running. I need to see how fast your CPU is running while this test is running. A screen shot after the test is finished won't show me what the problem is.

I also don't know what version of ThrottleStop you are using because you covered that up in your picture. Try checking the Set Multiplier box and set that as high as it can go. On the new versions of ThrottleStop, that should say Turbo so your CPU can use full turbo boost. I think that is the problem you are having.

What's the point of a TS junior? surely a single program that is fully featured is more desirable (and considerably less work).

That's too hot. I oc to 166 and very rarely see temps go above 80. Your high temps could be due to a number of things: a high ambient temperature in the room, dust buildup in and around the intake fan, incorrect/faulty assembly, etc. A few of those things you can rule out yourself, but if it's an assembly fault, you need to call Alienware.

Ok, I just call Dell to report the issue, they'll change de MB, Fan and Cooling system for my laptop.
I'll report how it goes after the change and if my temps went down to the one people are reporting here (idle at 40c and 70C OC full load).

Oh and Uncleweeb if ts junior would have a GUI why not make it an m11x :D or maybe an alien head that glows a color when on.

Thanks for the feed back ... I called Dell and was pretty easy, they are sending the core parts (mother board, fan and cooling system).
Good thing to toy arrown whit TS (TS BENCH 1024) and FurMark (to stress CPU, MEM and GPU at the same time) and monitor with CPUZ Coretemp and GPU Observer; CPU temp went to 90C and GPU temp reach 100C
I coud try the test again and post a screen shot whit the temp for reference for other people.

Futuremark and various timedemos is what I would recommend (the overclocking tools also have internal tests you could run for a long time).

If you want to continue this discussion, then start a new thread, as we're derailing this one here.

I've been lurking around and I found this thing called "Powermizer" but I cant understand what it really does...

I have a M11xR2 (OC 166MHz) and using ThrottleStop... should I disable powermizer?, will it make my CPU/GPU work better?
