are you sure? i made sure nothing else is touching other pins.
-
disconnect the batt, hold power button down for awhile...
double check to make sure you did not bridge any pins.
-
well.... i went back and tried again.. my m11x motherboard is done for.. =( when i was trying to disconnect the solder from pin 7 it took the pin with it for some reason..
-
dude that sucks...
but you should still be ok, you dont need PIN7 for 200mhz & 266mhz -
it does suck, but it wont boot. i need motherboard replacement i think...
-
your sure your not bridged anyware?
-
yep i just checked about 50 times.. this happened a few times even before the mod. i think this might not be all my fault haha
edit: i think im going to ask dell for a replacement, a few days ago i kept having trouble getting it to boot and it would just beep when it started up. so i think the reason it isnt working isnt because of me. i was veerrrryyyy careful when doing the mod. and the same thing happend before i did it, i think it was just a faulty board.
time to get a replacement. -
-
hmmm.
prob a ICS too. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
$140 for training wheels on the hardmod with a good probability of ICS PLL...time to go check under the sofa cushions lol
-
if i had the extra $140 bucks right now i would have. called dell and there replacing the board for free =P
-
no guarantee that it is an ICS, mine was...
-
yep i know. im very hopeful that it will be an ICS tho. if it isnt, il just do the 1.73ghz mod and call it good i guess... =/
-
Guys -
Does pin-modding drain a significant amount battery life? If so, how much? -
nope.
i still get 7-7.5 hrs surfing the web on this lil beast. (NV GFX off, low brightness, 50 processes)
generally speaking you normally dont pull too much more power unless you add more voltage. -
so new motherboard in my R1, it has the ICS controller instead of the SLG that my old one had. so do I just have to cut that one pin and then softmod it afterwards?
btw with this new motherboard all the artifacts I got on ATItool and portal are gone.
its weird though I sometimes get a icon saying the laptop is plugged in and not charging when its not plugged in... dunno if that's bad.. it lasts just a couple of seconds. -
looks like im sending this PNP RAM back..
-
Yes, cut pin 14 and you're set for SetPLL.
Have you tried flashing it to CAS6? -
did you get your new motherboard with the ICS pll from alienware??
-
do you even think it would make a difference?
plus i dont have the software cuz i dont have a 32bit ddr3 system right now. -
I need to flash my memory to CAS6... it is not auto up-clocking at 1200mhz... time to install XP
fyi for those with ICS plls, there is no need to cut/solder to the actual pins, there is an open resistor spot next to the pin that you can solder a wire too. I was almost tempted to see if that went directly to ground, but I just don't have the ambition
click for bigger
before someone asks, the wire is coated ubergage wire from a set of cheap earbuds
EDIT: does anyone know something similar to typhoonburner for win7 that doesn't require a paid email account? -
everybody is leaving me for ICS plls...
J/K im happy for you guys.
-
nice =P id rather cut the pin and get it over with tho. its a whole lot easier for me.
its a good possibility i get the ICS on my new motherboard. il have the new one installed on thursday. -
yep from alienware!
but im not to sure if its a good board though, I BSOD after running the stability test on ATItool for a little more than an hour.. I wonder if I should format it and try it again.. running prime95 right now. -
awesome! so i have a chance at an ICS. and i had mine bsod on atitool also, it could be a driver issue.
-
can anyone give me a step-by-step on flashing my memory to cas6?
I have vista/thaiphoonbuner installed, but I'm to afraid of bricking my memory...
-
if you brick your memory you can always hotplug
-
ok, how do I flash it to cas6?
-
might want to pm DavyGT. me and him worked on it for my r1 but it didnt work for anything past cas6.
-
yes, I know that... the problem is, my hyperx is stuck on cas5 limiting my OC to 1.7ish... so I need to flash it to a cas6 to try to go higher...
-
if i were you id just use different ram. i have a 4gb samsung kit that can go past 1100mhz cas 6.
and im not sure on the flashing process, iv done it before, but davy supplied the spd file and i just flashed that to see it it worked. -
yeah I am going to test it on a new install of windows with fresh drivers and run prime95 and furmark or something overnight to test it and see if its a stable board they sent me.
-
you could try running the heaven benchmark. thats pretty gpu intensive.
-
would that also stress my cpu? because I want to run something overnight and see if the whole system is stable.
-
I would like to try... this memory should be good to cas6@1280
-
@whitrzac
use SPDTool..... (supports 64-Bit too)
link for SPDTool: SPDTool: Read, Edit and Flash your Memory's SPD
1.change the CAS like this.....
2.open SPDTool
3.then find for "CAS Latency Supported" (higlighted blue)
4.change it to 6 only........
5.then press edit and press fix checksum
6.then press file and click write.....
7.repeat the same process on your second module (if you have one)Attached Files:

Thanks for this. +1 Great way to test if RAM will work at that CAS. Granted, what do you do if it won't boot?
-
It might make a difference. You came this far already...
SPDTool doesn't work with DDR3 memory. -
hmm.....
i can help anyone that want to flash their module to CAS6.....
just post the SPD link.........
@DavyGT
thanks for telling me that SPDTool does not work for DDR3 modules
-
First of all, many thanks to all contributing people (so many I can remember), I think that now my M11XR1 is now near its highest limits. I have tried to see the possibility to join pins 7 and 55 through a 10k resistor but the connections are so small that I prefer to have a PC and not a brick.
Reading the last comments about CAS5/CAS6/DDR3 and so on, I have checked my memory with CPUz and it says that it is DDR3 and opens four columns, from CAS6 to CAS9 with different frequencies. Does it mean that I can use other timings with the memory I have?.
Thanks a lot for any response.
José.
M11X /550-825-1300 -
so something like this?
-
whitrzac, I don´t know if you are answering me (post 1040) or jai554 (post 1039), but that´s the type of columns I see using CPUz. In the figure you show there are three filled columns; for my memory, CPUz shows four columns in the Timing Table section, from CAS6 to CAS9.
Thanks a lot.
José. -
@wthirzac
you see "max bandwidth" and "JEDEC #1"
max bandwidth showing 533MHz is your current max clock speed
then you see JEDEC #1..... it shows 533MHz too and CAS Latency 5
that's your ram running at...... your ram is currently running at CAS5....
flash it to CAS6 using thaiphoon burner......
does your ram support XMP Profiles?? -
THAT IS WHAT I'V BEEN TRYING TO DO!!!!!!!!!!!
-
no need to get all upset man. they obviously didnt see your other posts or something. like i said before, i would pm DavyGT. he knows more about it then us.
edit: tassadar898 might know how to do this too, he was able to flash different timings on his r2. -
Ah!
Another ram question...
I just upgraded today to the HyperX memory. 2x4GB modules.
I ran 3dmark for the hell of it and my avg rating of 7700 (stock 4GB ram) is now 4400!
I've been reading the recent posts on ram and was wondering if anyone can shed some light on this.
I wasn't sure if my ram needs some work (SPDTool)
The following are pics of CPU-Z using my new ram.
Thank you in advance!
-
lol...ok. I have no clue why, but after a restart and re-running 3dmark, 7451.....
-
did you have your gpu overclocked?
-
I believe I did...then again, 4400 range is about what it would do not OC'd?
How to pinmod and further overclock the M11x R1 (SLG= Hardmod only)
