Hey guys, long time no post.
Just popping in to say I finally got around to doing the SLG mod. 2ghz is pretty awesome!
Stock memory worked fine. Still doing stress testing to be sure though.
I used a single strand from an PATA/100 cable (I don't even own a board that has an ATA controller anymore, and still have 4 cables).
The stuff is really fine single strand, pretty good for this sort of work.
If you do go this route, just a warning that the insulation will shrink A LOT. Grab the wire on the insulation close to the end.
I soldered the 10k SMD resistor first, then the wire to the pin, then the wire to the resistor. I think that's the easiest, but be sure to not put ANY force on the pin while routing it to the resistor.

So just sorta to recap here.... I need a 10k resistor with a soldering gun... right? Then just solder it to Pin 14?

    Hi Everyone,

So after applying new compound to the GPU and CPU I checked visually and I'm an SLG owner. :D Can someone please confirm my questions in the picture link below?

    http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/5443/img0092aquestions2.jpg

I do understand that no cutting is required.

Thanks for the help, just trying to squeeze as much as possible out of this R1.

yes thats a 10k surface mount resistor. but you can use any kind that small enough to fit in the area we have to work with as long as its 10k.

no. at least not electronically. maybe you could for structural integrity? not important IMO as long as the two solder points are solderd correctly.

i personally never tested this point with a volt meter my self, but have used the point on my own laptop and it worked fine. its much easier than soldering the pins on the PLL that have 3.3v. its up to you tho. i have done both. and both worked fine. :)

some guy - Thanks for clarifying my picture questions.

This will bump me up to 2Ghz, Excited!

PS - Should overclocking be enabled and speedstep enabled?

    Thanks!

I've always wanted to do this mod, but one thing is stopping me from doing so. I have a bleepen' stripped screw for opening the palm rest. Any suggestions?

PS: This might be off topic, if so, sorry..

    Good job done Moral but...

I try to set my SLG8SP556V with SetSFB diagnose tab and register 14 (0E) and now my Lenovo G550 (GL40 chipset) notebook wont start anymore :(

I suppose I have to desold the Silego and change with a pin-to-pin compatible one.

Damn Silego... neither I'm able to reprogram the chip with 2-wire serial TTL-RS232 interface or J-tag?

    I wouldn't try before the FS_B (pin 2) pull-down to GND with 10K resistor because I was pretty sure the GL40 chipset maybe didn't support 266Mhz :((

Sorry for my bad English, thank you in advance for any help, best regards !

    HELP!
I have an AlienWare M11x R1. ICS PLL. I did the pin mod, and i think i did it correctly. Somethings in this thread were ambiguous so it's very possible i did something wrong. I disabled OC in the Bois. Disassembled my laptop. I soldered a 10k ohm 1/4w resistor to pin 14 and grounded it. After triple checking i didn't have a cold joint and making sure it was only touching pin 14 i resembled it. When i pressed the power button the laptop turned on but the screen did not. So i unplugged the ac and battery and took out the ram, then held the power button for 10 seconds. After that it beeped when i tried to boot it so i shut it down again and put the ram back in. After this it posted and booted into windows. I opened setfsb but it still was E5... so this means SME is still enabled correct?

    Sup peeps.

Bricker my slg mobo.... Wondering now if I should part out the computer (some parts, including the screen, are brand new), or if anyone is interested in doing the mod for me.

Pm me if you will do the mod, otherwise, what could I expect for the whole shebang? Worth more parted out or whole?

    Thanks in advance.

    Bob

Edit: It works fine. Anyone interested in trying to to a mod on the board. :)

Necro bump.. I think I'm going to try the SLG pinmod. Wish me luck. Now to acquire the right tools. I'll probably swear a few times before the end of it.. but worth a try. Quick question though. With my current stock hynix ram, I find that OC mode already results in BSODs after a fairly long time of usage. Is it even worthwhile to try this in that case with the current ram? Ram tested fine at non-oc in memtest (8GB Hyundai). It seems it will run with less stress than normal OC mode with the same Cas 6, so it might work?

I figure cutting pin 2 is pointless since it's already struggling with regular OC mode.

I went back to review some of the threads on BSODs with factory overclocking mode and I realized then that the answer was right in front of me. Thanks some guy. I think I'll give this a try since the ram won't be running as high as with factory oc.

So let me get this right, because I am about to do the 2ghz pinmod on my computer, so I will be needing better VID voltage....

I would do .95 (over the stock of .9) but that seems a little harder to do than just 1.0

So as I see it, in order to get 1.0v I would connect pin 4 from this image:
    http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/4378/slg8sp556fslx.png

to pin 3 from the same image, and then pin 3 to a 3.3v source with a 10k resistor?

I have a feeling I'm very wrong.... but I don't know where else to ask.

I need to do the voltmod before I do the 2ghz pinmod

Bumping an ancient one. I'm still rocking the m11x r1 but haven't built up the courage to try the SLG hard mod overclock. I once again went back through this thread and I'm not quite clear on something, even though I thought I was. If my m11x already BSODs after prolonged usage in regular BIOS overclock mode, does the SLG hard mod in O/C mode actually put less stress than regular overclock, or am I SOL? Is the ram driven less or something? I'm getting the feeling that if it crashes in that mode already there's no point.

    Cheers.
