i would if i bought the game.
but what i mean is add 848x480 as a custom res in the intel control panel. if the game automatically detects it as an allowed resolution then select it and see if it works. if the game doesn't then you'll need to mod an ini file somewhere.
-
-
What custom rez would fill the M11x screen (properly.. as in.. 16:9 ratio but lower rez)?
-
How about 720p?
-
848x480 @ 60hz, 32bit color depth
as ugly as it is to have to run a game at that res i'd still give it a try. -
That's what I've been playing at (hdmi out to my 37" TV).
Got everything set to low.. Still looks gorgeous (for a slideshow)
-
Somewhat off topic, but now I want this game. Damn you.
-
I have been reading other forums, and people with PCs that run Crysis at high settings with 60fps and 1080p, are getting 15-20fps in The Witcher 2 with similar settings....
-
Anyone have a chance to try this on the R3 yet without having to update drivers?
-
Grrr it arrived in its big box full of goodies DVD's coins and what not! Looks so good! I can't play because A - I dont have a DVD drive and B I have an M11X!
Scrap that, found a DVD drive. Time to get tinkering. I'll report back later. -
It is installing as I type. Here is some info to help tweak
Graphical Performance Tips - The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Message Board for PC - GameFAQs
And also get the latest beater drivers, and uninstall 3D Vision. Make sure Uber Sampling is set to off as well. -
Its not that bad Playable on Med Setting With a few Tweaks should be fine
Witcher 2 is still a Great game im sure a nice patch would make it even better -
Is the game taking advantage of all 4 threads of the CPU? Is this game more CPU or GPU limited or Both?
Is this the most demanding PC game to Date? I'm excited that a proper PC game has actually been developed for a change. Anyone who pirates this game does not deserve their PC! CDProjekt deserve the £££'s for supporting the PC community. Even if I cant play it as yet
-
I just downloaded it from gog. playing around 23-25 fps just have to lower resolution to 720p. The game is "smooth". A good way to enjoy it is to turn off fraps
edit: changed the resolution to 1280*600 gives around 32ish fps. It's quite good but not too noticable IMO. other people might not agree with me on that. -
Ok the average is around 24/25ish FPS which is just below what I can deal with. That is playing at the native resolution.
I tried at 1280/720 with low textures and got the same performance.
I've not watched any video's and just skipped into it so I can see the performance. If we can optimize the game just a little more and eek out another 3/5FPS it will be playable with full quality textures.
On another note i'm playing at my full overclock and the game doesn't mind. Crysis 2 on the other hand hates 590/1500/900 and crashes out. -
Just bought the collectors ed off amazon with one day shipping which lucky they still had it. Not sure why i miss the preorder... But i thought i wouldn't like the game but from videos it looks good.
Probably will have too play on my desktop tho.
Also if anyone want too get the first one too gog is having a great sale on it Witcher: Enhanced Edition, The - GOG.com which i also bought and will play that on my m11x.
Will post how my r2 runs the 2nd one when i get it tomorrow, Maybe i would get lucky and it would run smooth sense brink runs smooth on my r2 while others has problems. -
Runs fine on my R3, not even overclocking the GPU.
Standard generic Medium settings, and it runs @ ~30fps.
If I tweaked settings and OC'ed the gpu, I bet it would run better.
I'm running the latest 275.xx nvidia drivers, too. -
Hmm, can't work out what the bottle neck is. GPU or CPU, good to here the R3 is managing
-
Do you have the new 275.xx drivers installed?
-
Well i am getting an average of 35fps and sometimes an average of 50fps when indoors
Im playing at 1280 by 600 and everything turned off except textures, Which it still looks great considering the m11x has a small screen and you dont notice to much of a difference. Very playable.
M11x R2 I7 @167 With throttle stop
335m 600/900/1300
8gb of ram, while running gamebooster.
Graphics are amazing even at low settings -
It is virtually unplayable on my R1 which sucks because I was realllly looking forward to this game. I have it set to 720P and all of its settings on low and everything disabled and I even downloaded the new beta drivers and didnt install the 3D settings but it was to no avail as the game still runs poorly
.
-
EDIT: Ignore my post... I'm an idiot and was searching the nvidia website for Windows XP drivers by accident. Move along here folks, nothing to see, nothing to see...
-
Yeah, I'm not playing it like this. Gonna have to wait 6 months until i'm back from Asia and build myself a nice SandyBridge, GTX580 system
-
I've been struggling to play it at 20-25fps on low settings and native res, but it's really not doing the game justice. If we could just squeeze out another 5fps or so, I'd be happy with that, as the game (to me at least) still looks amazing even on low settings. The thing that I'd really like to switch on is light shafts and depth of field, cos they really look amazing when on.
There is something really strange afoot here though. I was playing around last night with settings and resolutions etc. and I'm seeing pretty much the same FPS on low, medium, high AND Ultra!
Playing on Ultra with ubersampling switched off but everything else left on as per default still gives me about 20fps (only slightly lower fps than having the game set at absolute lowest settings). To me, this suggests there really is some kind of optimization issue and... fingers crossed.. we may just get a nice little patch that boosts performance on our M11x's -
That sounds like the game is CPU limited then? For example, in BFBC2, I have the same fps in low and medium, due to the cpu being the limiting factor.
-
Could be but then why are the OC'd throttle stopped i7 R2's struggling and the R3 apparently isnt?? As the two CPU's do offer comparable performance.
I did notice the same with the quality settings so I really have no clue what is going on.
The minimum requirements are a 2.2GHz Dual. Surely a 2.0Ghz, with 4 threads would be enough?
I'm going to try and lower my RAM timings and up my FSB over the weekends. Fingers crossed for 180BLK for 2160Mhz at 12 multi. See if that will help squeeze out a further 5fps. Seriously thats all it needs and it'll be playable.
Perhaps the game is shader dependant and was developed ont he Fermi chips which is why the R3 is doing better? -
Interesting... How readable is the text in-game, i.e. quest logs and inventory text as well as dialogue text above NPC's heads etc?
-
Could someone with an R3 post their settings for the witcher 2 along with some screens in game? I'm curious to see how well can the R3 perform with the game as I am debating if I should purchase one in the near future.
-
Only just read this post..
Try the game at native and let me know what FPS your getting please. -
Yes 1280X600 seems to be the sweet spot for acceptable fps and resolution until new drivers or patches come out.
I'm playing with a ds3 controller and is so much better than using kbm. -
How readable is the text in-game?
Also.. do you have to set your desktop resolution to 1280x600 first before launching the game? -
It's alright i guess. Just got to sit close to the laptop or plugin an lcd monitor. No just go to video and language and change it from there.
-
Update: native res 1368x 768 everything on low except textures I get 25-35 fps out doors and 40-60 indoors. Completely playable and texts are big enough to read easily.
R2 I7 @167 throttle stop multiplier of 14 on all cores/threads
335m 600/900/1200 nvidia 275 latest beta drivers
8gb of ram w/ gamebootser
Idk whats different on my setup then you guys. It looks gorgeous and gameplay is great
What fps are R3 users receiving? -
Yeah it was about 23/24FPS at the start for me. Your extra mhz must be pushing out those extra few frames needed.
I want to play this game with full eye candy so will have to litterally shelf the game for a bit. -
Getting around 27fps at 1280x600. I think cpu is the culprit here.
Using an i5 m11x r2 btw -
Just played it at 1080p on my old gaming desktop which I sold to my cousin. 4Ghz Q9650 Processor and a OC'd GTX280. Played on High and was getting from 25FPS up to 45FPS depending on area. Its a demanding game but my god does it look good. So much detail!
-
I was actually "playing" it last night instead of arsing about with settings...
OMG.. Can't believe how gorgeous this game is! I have just arrived at the first town (Flotsam I think) and I have been walking around in there exploring. I'm not sure what FPS I was getting, cos I turned off Fraps, set the game to Medium, switch ON all 3 depth of field settings and switched on light shafts. The game is staggering looking in Flotsam. Also, to my surprise.. It was running silky smooth for me in Flotsam. I was pumping it out at 720p over hdmi to my TV. I'm really surprised, because I had previously seen videos on the web which showed Geralt walking about in towns with dozens of NPC's all busy about their own tasks, and I thought "hmmm... that's gonna cripple my M11x". But I can honestly say that it hasn't. In fact, Flotsam has been the smoothest framerates I've seen in the game so far
-
I agree with that. Are u playing with a controller? It feels less laggy than keyboard and mouse imo
-
I also tried it with a controller last night, much much better. Still when the frames dipped below 20 I just couldn't handle it. I want to enjoy the game at its best so will wait for a patch or better PC.
-
Yep, I actually seen your post earlier in the thread about.. just switching off Fraps and enjoy
And yeah, I'm playing with wireless 360 controller and it makes the world of difference in terms smoothness, especially when panning the camera about. My first shot at the game was with the M&K and it was all over the place, plus it's so much better controlling Geralt with the pad.. very accurate control of walk/run and direction (not to mention kicking back on my leather recliner with a beer rather than hunching over the 11" screen lol ). -
I've only really just bought this R2 about 3 months ago, so unfortunately, I'm in no position financially to buy something more powerful. I would have just built my own custom rig for about the same amount of cash, but I'm going to be living in hotel rooms starting from July for about 1-2 years, so will very rarely be at home (hence the need for a small powerful gaming laptop). I wish I'd hung off for the R3 mind you. Not sure about teh benefits compared to R2, but feel that if I had waited a couple of months, I'd have got the R3 instead of the R2 (I didn't even need the laptop when I bought it.. don't need it till July).
In saying that though, I've been gaming on it every night since I got it (my Xbox 360 is gathering dust.. with the exception of the wireless controller
)
-
Yes i'm the same, from August i'll be living in beach shacks and hotels in S/E Asia. The M11x seems to hold its value pretty well so i'll sell it on my return and put the cash towards a new desktop.
The Witcher is the only game i've come across so far which my M11X has had issues with. Fingers crossed a new driver or patch will sort things out? -
?!
i started from getting 25-35 avgerage fps on native res. But now no matter i do, it cant even break 20. Ive resinstall drivers, everything. and i even overclocked my GPU to 690/950/1400 highest ive ever gotten. and still doesnt break 20 fps, i average 13/14 fps, i unistalled 3d drivers, and even have everything set to low. Anyone had this happen to you?
yes the exe is also whitelisted -
holy crap thats an extremely high overclock. are you sure its stable??
-
Haven't gotten the BSOD yet, played for about 2 hours. So i assume its stable. I haven tried anyother games other then the witcher 2 with these overclocks though. Im just trying to crank out a few extra fps with the witcher.
-
you wont get a bsod, your screen will just flash/flicker and clock itself down to 2d clocks.
-
well i dont see flickers or any artifacts, and the performance is just slightly better then the stock clocks. only getting an extra couple fps. It seems stable, but back on topic idk what has caused my performance for the witcher to drop so low
-
Update, So i found something extremely strange, but i had my GPU overclocked to 690/900/1400 and i got an fps of 14 then i downclocked it to 400/700/1000 and i got an fps of 15. So i think it has something to do with maybe my CPU is bottlenecking my GPU. except i dont understand why because i have an R2 I7 @167mhz throttlestopped. and before i used to get 30+ fps on this game
-
Has anyone tested the performance of this game on the M11x R3 yet?
-
They're too busy playing to respond.
