@sasquatchimo I loaded up one of my old saves in a town where I use to get around 20-25 FPS at 720p but after the patch with the same settings, I'm at around 25-35 FPS.

It may not seem like a huge jump but it definitely feels much smoother when playing. It has made it so much more enjoyable to play!

As for OCing, I'm running throttlestop at 160MHz and just stock with the GPU.

Have you played it yet and felt any kinds of improvements?

I noticed in towns when it dips to low 20's the GPU usage was also dipping so i'm guessing they have addressed that issue.

I know this thread is really old, But I just installed the Witcher 2 with all of the latest patches. And it runs pretty good on ultra with some tweaking like ubersampling off and lowering/disabling some settings. I run on stock so I expect i'll do a wee bit better with overclocking.

Ultra... that's pretty brutal! There's no way I can run it at playable frame rates on those sort of settings, and I overclock.

What rev M11x do you have and what kind of FPS are you getting?

@Rypac: Well we have the same specs except I don't run on a SSD. So that's a R2 with an i7, 8gb of ram. I'm also using the latest nvdia drivers if it matters.

For the frame rates, I don't use fraps or anything cause it will take a hit on performance. The camp part of the game ran okay (No jitters, No lag, No stop dancing blah blah) BUT there is a difference when I run it on low settings (smoother feel to the environment).

But the game is completely playable to me. I'll try to find time post my settings.

Post a video of it running playable on Ulta with uber off (even from a mobile phone). I call BS or very high tolerance for low frame rates!

@mardon Sure thing, Though I may have a high tolerance for low frame rates seeing that this is my first computer with a "decent" gpu. :p

So, this game is $30 on GoG and D2D. Does it run well enough on the R1 that I should buy it for that price?

Sorry man but I don't think it would run very well on the R1. It gives my R2 a mighty workout even with Throttlestop and a GPU OC.

Hey, so my first post is in two parts. First, I've been running Witcher 2 on my R1 on med/high settings for 21 hours according to Steam, and it's been running very well. Important settings I've used are Texture Memory very large, Bloom on, AA on, Uber off, VSync off (I found that VSync slowed W2 down a bit, and after turning it off I've not noticed any tearing). If you're thinking about getting it, I'd say go for it!

Now, to completely contradict that statement, I was running W2 as normal hooked up to my TV today. I've been running it like this pretty much since I got it, although I have occasionally played it on the smaller M11x screen. Now, since disconnecting from the TV today the performance has gone completely to crap and I cannot fathom why. I'm running the steam version, and even on lowest possible settings as 320x200 (yes!) it runs like a dog. I'm talking slideshow style. I've just uninstalled it and restored from backup, and Steam is currently downloading a 9GB patch. Yay. So in the meantime, does anyone have any thoughts in case the uninstall/reinstall doesn't work?

EDIT: Hm, so the uninstall/reinstall did work and it's back to running nicely. Still, if anyone's got any ideas for future reference, I'd still appreciate responses :)

EDIT 2: Seems like the problem is that on lowish battery it runs like a dog and when plugged in/full battery it runs great. I kind of get the reasoning behind this, but had no idea it was possible to set this up. Can anyone explain this, or tell me how I can get the highest performance from my machine until the battery dies? Steam warns me when the battery is about to go flat anyway, so it's not really that big of a deal.

EDIT 3(!): Found a setting in control panel that sets the GPU to balanced mode when on battery, even if the overall system performance is set to high, so I switched it to Max Performace. Works a treat now.

Thanks guys! ;) Seriously though, I hope this helps someone wondering what's going on with their once great R1!
