Ya im using my R3 and i seem to get at least a bit better fps then the R2 but nothing too notable...The only big difference is i can play at a steady 25 fps on any graphic setting for a good amount of time but no matter which one I am on after a while the game clunks out and I start to get around 10-15 fps. I have looked on other forums as well and other people have the same problem everywhere with several different types of computers. Probably a good thing to do would be to wait for the patch that fixes compatibility issues cause my specs far surpass the recommended specs... but until then best of luck.
-
red who are you getting that performance mine starts of around 17-23 fps - do you o/c, what drivers are you using
-
GOG file helps me to increase about 5-8 frames, awesome. it's now more resonable cos' my pin-moded r1 can run the game smoother with around 18-35 frames
more detail: Su7300 Oc to 2ghz, havent oc the GPU yet, Newest driver from Nvidia (275 beta).
this is my settings, hope it will help some R1 owners
everything are disable and low except:
texture downscaling: high
texture memory size: very large
Dangling Objects limit: enable
resolution: 1280x720
-
ok i tried yours out on an r3 i7 , pretty good frames 24-40
where do i get the gog files from- i bought it on steam? -
I'm not sure that is it ok to post a link to those files. Someone posted them at page 13 or 14 anyway. Mine is retail version.
-
U can try replacing the steam files with the gog version. But when I did it, I didn't see an increase in fps.
To my knowledge the steam and the gog versions aren't affected by the secuROM drm, which is why those versions are the best to date optimized versions. As opposed to retail. -
You do realise texture downscaling HIGH = worse quality textures possible. Set it to NON for uncompressed high quality textures and a HUGE bump in quality.
The GOG files only work on the D2D and Retail version. Steam and GOG do not have the faulty DRM.
Just because the 445m is a newer card than the 8800Gt it does not mean it is better, as unfortuantly its not.
Also on a side not a call BS on 30FPS Average at native or even 720p rez on Ultra on a R2 i5 until I see video proof. Sorry its just not possible. -
unfortunately, I witnessed no difference in performance for whatever I set in this option
.. so there were no reason to decrease it.
-
There is something up with your install then. There is a huge difference between HIGH and NONE. As in night and day, even on that small screen you can clearly see the difference.
-
Good news Witcher 2 1.1 patch details, date News - PC - Page 1 | Eurogamer.net
We might see a small boost in performance
-
There is a 2nd one coming out next week as well. Fingers crossed. If I could get the same to stick at 28FPS+ I could play it.
Crazy thing is it doesn't really matter what I put the game it Medium or Low the FPS stay around 25.. -
to add to dmfky's post, here is some similar patch info from the official website:
Community - Patch 1.1 is coming soon! Most issues will be SOLVED! - thewitcher.com
Note:
4. Performance improvements: approximately 5% to 30% better framerate and faster game loading for many users, depending on their individual systems and game versions. Owners of retail versions can expect the biggest improvements.
No need to continue the discussion on grey area game executables and dll's now it seems. -
You're seriously underestimating the unstoppable force that this the average NBR forum member's desire to continue to talk about things that shouldn't hold anyone's interest.
-
Yeah exactly, having -10 FPS just because you dared to get the disk version is of no interest to anyone
-
Version 1.1 did not help my performance. still get 15-20fps on low, medium, and high specs. 5-10 on ultra.
-
Same here - no improvement on my R2. Almost done with the game on my desktop though.
-
Missed my point.
-
Just bought the game last night from steam and it is great. The r1 can play it pretty well but it does chug a little at the beginning of a battle but picks back up and plays smooth
-
What settings are you playing on? Have you modified R1 beyond the standard OC in the BIOS? Just curious as I've also got a "standard" R1 and I'd love to play TW2 on it.
Thanks! -
Mardon is talking about the quality of the visuals not the performance (please correct me if I am wrong Mardon).
-
Yes i'm talking about the visuals. Compressed low rez textures compared to high rez textues is night and day. The performance may not take a hit if the game is more CPU than GPU limited.
Seriously give it a try, set compression to non instead of high. -
I was curious as well. What settings are you running it at? I'm not too picky about effects but is the frame rate smooth? (>25fps). Settings?
Looking forward to hearing from you!
-
With the latest 1.2patch, an overclock and the latest drivers i'm now at a minimum of 22FPS and usually 25 or higher. This is just about ok so gonna give it a play tonight and report back.
-
It plays well now at my max OC only dropping below 24FPS very rarely. Its usually up near 30. Oh and so far game is AWESOME!!
Very happy indeed!
Setting everything to low except full quality textures and large texture memory selected. Might try and turn a few things on to see if it affects the frame rate. -
I just used the recommended settings and bumped the resolution up to max. I don't recall knowing what my fps was.. But it played very well. I'm also on a M11X R1.
-
Any updates on some of the changes you've made to settings? On my stock i7 R3 I've been getting similar numbers to yours and have it also set to the same settings you listed.
-
What framerates are you getting at the begging and at chapter 1??
-
The start of the game is the most demanding part. It gets better.
I was 22 minimum at the beginning and probably 24 average.
Chapter 1 is 26/28 average. 24 minimum.
It is playable and very pretty! -
I was kind of talking to Kyle. His statement has me a little curious on what he would consider "playable" and acceptable (framerate wise) if he didn't do any OC'ing or mods to his r1.
-
A fair enough. You can sleep soundly tonight knowing my frame rates as well then
-
My max OCed R1 now can play this game properly, minimum is about 20 frames.
turn off everything except:
texture downscaling: none
texture memory size: very large
decals: high spec
CPU Oced to 2.0Ghz
VGA: 515/1236/850 - core/shader/memory (using this settings to avoid artifact)
just defeated Letho with hard mode, he was a tough boss
someone could think that the frames rate is quite low but it's truly enough for me 'cos I dont feel any hiccup during playing
-
If the minimum is 20 you might just about be ok. Mine is about 4/5fps faster so I guess thats down to the slightly higher clock's. I wonder how many cores it uses? I might be better turning one core off and using hyper threading and having 2.6ghz rather than 2.3 with two cores..
I do think the game is more GPU limited though. -
haha, mine is R1, it cant be compared with your R2 man
-
From tests I have done on my desktop, this game is only gpu limited on the highest setting with ubersampling. On the first three settings it is entirely cpu limited. On my desktops Q9300 @2.5Ghz, @3.0Ghz, and @3.4Ghz my fps on high setting with my 8800 gt has 25fps, 37fps, and 44fps respective to the clock speeds. Manipulating the clocks speeds on my 8800gt didn't affect fps at all. Popping in my roommates Radeon 6850, I only got 4fps higher yet the 6850 stomps my 8800gt. On my roommates desktop with the i7-950 with his 6850 he gets 66fps on stock clocks on high setting.
-
Hi there..
the witcher 2 works perfectly fine..very good quality..
gr8 game..
M11x R3... -
When I toggle between stock and my 4 varying OC's the FPS jump around 1-2fps per overclock. I'm using the clocks in my sig. With 166BLK i get around 22 min, with 191BLK i'm getting 24/25 minimum.
-
is the R2 still getting raped by Witcher 2?
-
Not really. I've been playing ok. Low settings, textures on full quality high memory native res. 24min 30ish max. 27 average.
-
It's still raping mine
I was on vacation for a few weeks there. Booted up TW2 last night on my R2 with CPU and GPU OC'd and TS running.... getting about 13fps again.
jeez-o... I feel like flogging this little R2 and buying a Kobalt G150.. But unfortunately, my wallet AND my back can't handle it. -
me thinks there are just some games that the M11x just can't rappe but only get raped: Witcher 1 & 2 for me are only the start of that list!
-
methinks you're right
-
just like red faction armageddon - anything physics related and it starts to chug!
-
I've installed the game with high specif. and it runs:
Average FPS is about 30 - 40fps
Highest I have seen.. 43fps
Screen Resolution... 1387x768 -
What spec is your M11x?
What are your OC settings? -
11MxR3 i7 nvidia540GT 2G 8G
-
Sorry,
Alienware M11x R3 Core i7, nvidia 540GT 2Gb, 8Gb RAM, 250Gb -
very nice, my R1 getting around 20-35 frames with lowest settings.
-
Ok, anyone who is still playing The Witcher 2 *MUST* install the new 1.3 patch!
Haven't had much testing time or numbers to show you but the performance increase is astonishing. Before, I was running at pretty much the lowest settings @ 1280x600 just to get playable framerates but I just patched it and am running at native Res (in a dungeon ATM) with 35-45 FPS.
I'll get back with some more solid figures in a while... if I can pull myself away from it
-
Awesome! Saw it download from Steam last night but haven't had a chance to play it. I noticed in the patch notes there wasn't much related to performance improvements except for the following:
- Issues with nVidia 3D Vision technology have been resolved. Players no longer need to uninstall the related drivers.
- Assorted improvements have been made in the game’s 3D Vision, SLI and Crossfire functionality.
- Assorted improvements have been made for running the game in Ubersampling mode on nVidia cards.
Perhaps it's something to do with the 3D Vision drivers? I remember someone saying that was a major cause of low framerates. Rypac, what sort of framerates were you getting before? Any overclocking? -
I've always had 40ish fps in dungeons. Hope it makes an improvement else where.
Unfortunately i'm going to have to re-install.. The patch killed my game
