I wish I would have waited. I bought GTAIV from Games for Windows Live. It was $15 over the weekend. The Games for Windows Live client basically sucks, and I wasn't able to get the stupid thing to download until Monday.

Now its $7.50 on Direct 2 Drive, and I NEVER have problems downloading my games from them.

From what I'm reading you should expect to see 25-30 FPS with Batman AA

Yeah I bought Batman AA on GFWL and the download system sucks. It even got corrupted after 6GB downloaded and had to restart. To this day I haven't even got it installed. just keeping the Live key to maybe activate on another game.. Fallout3 or something

I talked to someone at Microsoft about it on Monday. He had me on the phone for almost an hour, before I told him I had other things I needed to be doing. He chuckled at me and said " yeah, people always call and think they are going to get an instant fix. But, these things take time." To which I said "no, I thought I was going to buy a game and download it the same day", plain and simple.

He also told me I should expect issues, because the service is technically in Beta. I told him that was a pretty poor excuse, seeing as I can buy from Direct2Drive or Steam without issues.

Hmm, when I try to use Dell's Download Managaer the progress will stat at o percent and later say that it can't find a network connection.

and after breaking my back over it I got it to finally work. :p

Just got into the Starcraft 2 beta. What are everyone's settings? I have it on Medium now and it looks pretty good. I also had to download nHancer to run Sin from Steam. Anyone else use this? I only messed with Sin settings and it works now. I want to make sure by just installing the tool it didn't try to "optimize" my other games.

Upon playing another match, I notice highs gave me some minor slowdown when there were a lot of units on screen ~40 units.. dropped to low 20s if that's okay with you.

I would say in the teens maybe. On medium I get 28-30 or so just looking at the display. I am going to run the Crysis Benchmark today when I get home to make sure I am getting the same fps that others are seeing on medium. I'll run it on High to see what it gives too.

Wow, that's alot better than I expected!

The only problem is that I don't want to spend about 1000$ again on almost the same notebook, if it'll get a better processor. Is there any way to send it back and let Dell replace the CPU or something?

Nope. Besides the CPU being soldered in, Dell is in this for the money. They have no interest in updating a half a year old notebook (earliest a refrest might come out) into a refreshed model. This goes for all companies.

This is also the price of buying things without waiting. Everyone on these forums ordered the M11x knowing what it was and what its drawbacks were. Especially for the fact of buying a brand new model.

In 3DMark 06, on average it's getting a 1000 more. That's not exactly world's apart, although it is significant.

Agreed - though, if you drill down, it depends on which score you're looking at. Compared to the N82JV - it's actually only around 500 points difference (w/M11x CPU OC'd).. Heck - I'm getting higher average than what's reported there (hovering around 6500-6575 in 3dMark06).

Some of the games are noticeably higher in FPS - however.. but that's to be expected with a Core i7 .. :)

All in all - Comparing this laptop to the M11x is still comparing apples to oranges here as the N82JV is significantly larger than the M11x - which the KEY reason I've purchased one. There simply isn't anything out there, in this exact form factor, that comes close in comparison (save for the Sony Z which is significantly more expensive). I'm sure by this time next year, however, there will be plenty of options in this form factor.

So would it be safe to say that the CPU isn't really a bottleneck? Save only with RTS and other games requiring CPU compute?

the more I play games, the CPU is definitely a bottleneck in many games.. but not to say you can run on highs, but yeah you could get more out of games FPS wise if the CPU was an i5 or something =) oh well, still love the M11x, just wish I could do more.

@vorob This happened to me too on my Z. What I did was change the compatiblity mode for l4d2 to windows xp sp3. Once I did that, no more white guns. You do this by right clicking the l4d2 icon, click properties and make it run in compatibility mode.

L4D 2 has more glitches than the original. I've completed 5 campaigns online on the M11x and found that setting the shader detail to high crashes the game, "the parish" campaign hangs up online after constantly failing to load the 2nd level; as well as many other niggling glitches which would render me cross had i spent more than £13 on it.

I ran L4D2 on my gateway maxed out and never had a single problem with it. But today I installed the new dlc on my m11x and after loading a campaign it automatically crashes to the desktop. Before the update it had not crashed a single time. I haven't figured out what is causing it yet and since I just sold my gateway last week I don't have another computer to test it on.

I saw a couple of people at the steam forum complaining also. Some of them were running the new gtx470's and 480's and thinking it was hardware related (since we have 2 gpu's, a oem driver and fairly new gpu maybe that's the problem?) and others that hadn't listed their rigs also mentioned it but nobody has a fix yet that I saw....

So just wondering if anyone with a m11x has gotten the game to run successfully yet or not since the update was released Thursday?

Alright that worked. I never had this problem before the new dlc because I just had to change the shader setting from very high (where it was running fine last week).

Did you have and fix this problem with another computer or just with the m11x?

Also did you have this problem before the new dlc?

I'm just trying to figure out what it is even though I probably can't fix it ;) time to try out the new campaign

I bought L4D2 on sale after the DLC was released but by looking at the forums this problem seems to coincide with the update. Hope we'll soon get a patch that'll fix this as well as the many other problems associated with the game.

Got the white guns/crashing issue with L4D2,that issue came after the update, but like somebody said here, if I "Set shader and effects detail to medium" works great, but that is not the point, this should be working as it should.
PLEASE if someone knows a solution tell!!!

This is interesting. I also noticed this behavior and was starting to think it was the 197.12 driver. Still need to check with the previous driver. Thanks for the tip.

FWIW, have no issues with settings to HIGH on the M17x - its either the 197.12 driver or its an issue between the update and the 335M.

Guys, got the SU7300 -4GB-7200rpm, M11x , and since I updated the video drivers to beta ones I see that Crysis (runinng in dx10) isn`t as fluid as it should be in "medium" settings, but L4d2 and MW2 are looking great.
Also, could anyone tell me how to make the Crysis benchmark tool run? because mine just starts the game...thanks!

I bought SiN from steam last week because I used to love playing that game so long ago. Then I find out it doesn't like modern hardware and I was getting an error with the 335. I downloaded nHancer but it seemed like there was way too many options and I felt like I could mess up something in another game. So I decided to try the integrated graphics, and success! The game runs great with the integrated graphics. So the laptop is awesome for new and old games alike!

Torchlight runs good on "netbook mode" and intergrated graphics too.

Does Crysis Warhead run better than Crysis? Oh, and I think I'm going to make a system config for Crysis so it will look good but still have high FPS, I also pushed my desktop to the limit with a modded ultra high mod, so I guess I'll be able to do this too :).

    E: http://rapidshare.com/files/380482382/system.cfg.html

my tweak, got average 24fps first benchmark run, 26 second benchmark, haven't runned a third(OC'd CPU @ 1280x720). Maybe you have to change some ingame settings too, if you have lower framerates, tell me what your settings are.

PS: I think I'm going to improve it later :).

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

E2: I've made an improved version, min FPS 21.46, average FPS 28.60, max FPS 38.52

    http://rapidshare.com/files/380493926/system.cfg.html

This can be downloaded just 10 times, so I think I'll just post what's in the config. somewhere, so you can just copy/paste it.

E3: Just to let you know what I've actually done:
    1. Decreased shadow quality
    2. Removed minor effects
    3. Small bushes won't respond to you when you walk trought them, bigger bushes and trees will still respond(when shooting at them).
    4. Big vegetation will be changed into more ugly tree's (less complex structures) when the distance between you and the object increases, this will happen more drasticly than normal.
    5. Medium vegetation will fade at a large distance, more drasticly than without the tweak.
    6. Small objects, like grass or small stones, will fade when you're not so far away from them, this may cause pop-ups.

These are the primary changes I've made. Hope you like it!
