Hi all, I am having problems playing Test Drive Unlimited. I cannot run it smoothly in any resolution and details settings, frames are right, but every ~5 secs the video pauses (but the game continues). After another ~2 secs the game continue but I already hit the wall somewhere. Is anybody else experiencing this issue?
-
Consistent 30+ FPS (zero slowdown) with L4D 1+2 on high without AA/AF - When the system is OC'd and optimized.
-
Anyone tried GTA epidsodes ?
The Rockstar bundle on steam is tempting but only if I know Episodes can run on the m11x. -
Yes. Well it doesn't run as smoothly as the other games - you need to tweak some settings. (I think the same as GTA IV)
-
Zero slowdowns? Thats awesome!! Getting this for sure but what do you mean by optimized? (yes noob here
) or better yet can u tell me the changes you made yours? I really want to play left 4 dead without slowdowns.
-
Great job!!!!!, in my experience Crysis WH runs a lot better than Crysis, the thing is that i cannot make Crysis Bechmark tool run, it just starts me the game, any clue ?
-
Nope, I press BENCHMARK_GPU in Bin 32, a command screen pops up, telling me that I have to press any key to start the benchmark, which works flawless...
-
I mean when there isn't any bloatware (Alienware Command Centre/IE windows included) running in the background the game shouldn't slow down even during crescendo events. I run with Shader detail on med because there is a bug preventing newer nVidia cards from running that option on high. AA+AF can both run at 2x without any drawbacks.
-
What about gta4 and will re5 run at 30 fps too? I heard gta4
had some lag issues, anyway i watched some vids on Youtube and left 4 dead 2 gets down to 20 fps its that because it isnt overclocked? -
I played l4d2 and experienced no slow downs.
-
Thanks, can u list your settings used? Can u also list the fps u got?
-
so I just got l4d2 and figured out the crash to desktop via medium shaders, but I have another minor issue. I have some mouse tracking issues while playing. It's not smooth, sometimes the crosshair doesn't move to where it should or pauses or whatever. It's not my mouse since other games track perfectly fine.. anyone else experiencing this issue?
using Razer orochi wired. -
Also using orochi, butvia BT, btw i see you also have BT, did you tested it that way?? I will try if you need it via wire, but it should not be a problem to use it via bt.
Oh, if you used a Gamepad before, try to enable it and disable it again, that happend to me on my second l4d2 run.
see you online killing some zombies
-
I don't have any issues with mouse tracking and I have the orochi. Dunno what's up man. We should play sometime though.
-
fo sho bra! I'll have to check out my mouse and see what's up.

Played Splinter Cell Conviction today. Ranged 18-25 fps during gameplay with all settings on high, but no AF or AA. Dips to 11 fps during cutscenes (loading next level). Was using FRAPS, so I don't have any fancy graphs to show, but the game ran mostly at 19-20 fps. Have only done the first level and I am a bit through the second, so have yet to experience heavy firefights or later sequences.
The game is pretty much playable. I have been having trouble with the resolution settings: 1366 x 768 is not displayed in the settings menu, ended up running the game at 1360 x 768. Spent a good deal digging through files and folders, and although I've typed in my desired resolution into two separate config files in the install folder, the game insists on running at 1360 x 768. If anybody knows how to set a custom resolution for this game, please let me know. I've been looking all over the net as well, but haven't found anything myself.
Also, I seemed to have suffered from "sticky" movement keys: I would move in a certain direction, and even after lifting my finger off the movement key, the character (Sam) would keep moving. Also, same for changing directions. If "W" is pressed, Sam would move forward immediately, but if I then pressed "A" while "W" was still held down, Sam would take almost a full second before changing direction. Initially I thought this was some form of lag, but I experienced no mouse lag at all during gameplay. Might be the way the game is meant to be played (which might take some getting used to). I don't have any problems in any other games (have ME2, Crysis, and CoD2:MW multiplayer installed).
BTW, I have CPU OC'd, but no OC with GPU.
/Edit: Also, the game warns you at start that the current GPU is not supported. Still, as stated above, it runs fine. -
I can confirm Red Faction Guerilla is playable - A previous user mentioned somewhere in this thread (Don't have the time to scurry through it at the moment) that it was too CPU intensive.
Wrong
My rig is the basic package - Not that it affects performance in any way-With settings adjustments I was gaming last night on this rather dated but enjoyable title:
SU4100 Oc'd 1.7Ghz
2 GB Ram
320GB 7200rpm hard drive
Installed Game Booster - Switched off all unnecessary applications
Switched to High Peformance Mode...
Settings on mostly on Low - With the exceptions of screen resolution at 1024x768 I believe and particle details on Medium.
The settings could be pushed higher - I'll test later on...
There is the ocassional lag spike during mass destruction but not enough to hinder playability and may well add cinematic effect (Personal preference). -
Can you tell me how Many fps conviction gets on medium and low?
-
Apparently the M11x is a MUST HAVE
Top 10 must-have gadgets and electronics - CNET Reviews -
Haven't tried either game, however, i do know that GTA4 is badly optimized and CPU intensive.. this means it will not run at 30fps or consistently at all. Check YouTube for videos on both games to make your own decision concerning playability.
-
Heh - it also lists the iPad - which I find *far* from being a "must-have" gadget...
-
I can't get more than 22fps out of GTAIV.
-
hey guys wondering if you can help me with this one. so the first game i download off steam is medieval total war 2. click PLAY.
the game is just about to launch and then it says:
'medieval 2 total war has discovered an unspecified error and will have to exit'
it wont say what the error is nor how to fix it.
has anyone got any ideas where to even start looking to fix this?
cheers -
Did you try the steam forum groups for that particular game?
-
Is it possible to use a ps3 controller without this? If so how?
-
For those who are curious, here are the settings I play L4D2 with. I haven't experienced any slow downs with this current setup.
Res: 1366x768
AA: Off
Anisotropic filtering: 8x
VSync enabled
multicore rending enabled
shader details at medium
effects at medium
Model / texture detail high
paged memory pool low
YMMV, but haven't run into any problems at all. -
How many min fps do you get with that settings? If its not too much to ask
-
I don't really pay attention to the fps while i'm playing, sorry. It never slows / stutters when i'm playing.
-
with those settings nsx uses but I think AF at 4x I played the passing and I don't think I got below 30fps, hung around 50+
-
Im really on a dilema here... I saw many vídeos and reviews say that the game slowdowns when the horde attacks you but you guys say it doesnt :/ i dont whant to get burned since this cost 900 bucks. What do you guys recomend me.
-
one problem after another..
ok i didnt get that particular problem fixed. but i also downloaded mass effect from steam.
now both games downloaded.. click play and steam says games currently unavalible please try again later.. its been like that for ages. looked on google and they told me to run steam and the game as administrator. done that and its still not working.
iv made a ticket but all their guna tell me is that i need to update my drivers etc..
is it possible to get a refund from steam if you cant play your games? -
Have you tried to reinstall your graphics drivers? I am also assuming you are trying to run the games on your 335m gfx and not the Intel one.
Back when I first got my M11x, ME1 was refusing to load. I would start the launcher and then pop up the graphic that it would load but then it would never load the game. I did not get an error or crash. My problem was related to the UAC.
I had to go into Control Panel and disable UAC. Then run the game which would now load. Then just close down the game and reenable the UAC which now caused no conflicts for future runnings of said game.
Steam did recently do a major update to their steam client. Maybe that might be causing issues? -
L4D 2 was originally showcased on the M11x by AW staff who were probably running the CPU at 1.3ghz with numerous applications collectively active in the background. This is why optimisation is important: you cannot afford to clutter the M11x as it is simply unable to process modern games on high settings with other programs eating away what little CPU power it has. The settings might have also been completely maxed out with 8x AA and 16X AF, something the M11x isn't geared to handle.
I'm pretty impartial when it comes to AW products, not one of the resident hardcore in these discussion forums. But, i can recommend the M11x.. it's considerably the most powerful laptop in its class, robustly built and definitely beautiful to look at. -
Agree with Bendak, don't get this laptop if you plan on gaming with all maxed out settings and all that. I love this laptop for what it is and what it "can" do.
-
ok im not much of a computer wiz but i think i did what you said. i went on change user account settings which took me to a slider, and i put it to the lowest one as it didnt say an on or off. it restarted my system and i tried steam again but still no luck..
portal, the free game loads fine btw.
atm im installing some windows 7 updates so maybe that will do something.
il try re installing the graphics card drivers and see if that helps. -
true above. I was playing on medium shaders and graphics. It still looks great, beats out 360 in visuals and plays ultra smooth. If you put all on highs yeah you'll get slowdowns.. You're paying $900 for a mini gaming box and an ultraportable.. not just a gaming laptop.
-
Tried playing the Passing when it first came out for L4D2 and the bloody thing wouldn't load on the m11x, I had to really bump down graphics before it loaded. Not the hell sure what that was all about.
@pezza2000 - New drivers for the Graphic Card is out if you haven't updated already, like a previous reply I had to run it in administrator mode before it worked, thank god for google. -
So...I tried playing episodes for liberty city on the m11x. Runs ok I guess. Not fantastic frame rates or anything. Playing on medium / low settings.
-
There's a Codemasters racing game library sale on Steam at the moment, 75% off.. now would be a good time to pickup Dirt 2 at a token price.
-
Just bought the rockstar pack on steam.
I will try GTA episodes as soon as it is downloaded.
I have very little hope
EDIT : @Bendak : I have also seen this, but is the m11x capable of running it ? -
Episodes from liberty city runs ok. I can't wait to play grid. The demo was sweet.
-
Bought GTA: Classics, never played Vice City, GTA3 and GTA1, but they're quite fun.. Must say that GTA:SA looks way better than GTA3 and GTA:VC..
-
The codemasters racing pack is very, very tempting. Downloading the Grid demo now, wanna see how it plays before I buy the pack
.
-
YouTube - Alienware M11x playing DIRT 2
Looks playable to me. -
bought the racing pack. that deal is monster - dirt 2 pc still retails for about £25 preowned down the high street
in terms of issues, i've only had the laptop lock up twice, one during mw2 singleplayer (it was the "BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!" kind, where it gets stuck on a sound. forced restart.
and the other again, mw2 multiplayer. but that could be a host issue. -
It might have something to do with the game itself. I've only ever had a single hangup in 1 month of solid gaming with the M11x and it was while playing MW2 multiplayer - was fortunately able to alt-tab then ctrl-alt-del to shutdown the application.

Dirt 2 runs pretty good. I have it HDMI out to my 1080p plasma and play it in 1080p at Medium settings with the crowd turned off. That gets me around 30fps average and 26fps minimum. That Codemasters pack is really nice, except I have Dirt for 360 and Grid for PS3, otherwise it would have been an instant buy.
-
well you can buy the games seperate at 75% off a piece. At least it was last night.. Dirt2 for $9.99 is good price
-
Does hooking the M11X to a 1080 screen via HDMI reduce the framerate? What about if you output at a lower resolution than 1080? I ask this as when I get my M11X it will be run mainly through a 23" 1080 monitor and I wasn't sure if this will make any difference with games.
-
Frame rates will do down when the resolution is increased, that's why he has set the game to run at lower graphics settings.
