Aren't there plenty of ATi chips that have a better performance to watt ratio? I'd like to see a 5830 make it into the refresh.

Since optimus is only a software solution, has anyone tried downloading the driver on the nvidia site and installing it on the M11x?
the ASUS N82Jv has the GeForce GT 335M. If its really a software solution aren't we going to be able to only install this and run it perfectly? -
i believe some people have it semi working. i saw it in one of the other threads. theres a "beta optimus" that someone was running and it did the switch but they couldnt tell if it switched them back or something. if you do find out that theres a way to get optimus, please make a post about it so everyone can access it easier. :]

Does anyone know if and when Red Dead Redemption is coming to Steam? There is no way I am spending a dime on the ps3 version when I heard the resolution is not even 720p.
-
Off topic rant:
The PS3 Red Dead Redemption is epic fail. The fact that it is scaled up to 720p I can let go somewhat, the fact that it's running less textures and such compared to the Xbox360 is terrible. It still looks great and for those who don't know about the issue just won't know anything is wrong. It still looks great just not as great as the Xbox360 version.
This same problem happened with the PS3 and Xbox260 Bayonetta with the PS3 version being inferior. -
Even more reason to get it on the m11x! Hey, any chance we'll see Halo 3 and GOW 2 for the PC?
-
Halo 3: Maybe?
God of War: No -
not god of war. GEARS of war :] and soon hopefully? i played the first one on pc cause i dont have an xbox so it'd be nice to pick up the story.
-
I've heard metro2033 runs like crap on it.
-
metro 2033 runs like crap on everything. its so badly optimized. if you wanna play it play it on a console
-

With horrible controls and graphics...
Since optimus is only a software solution
Its only for "i" processors. Think it will be available in m11x refresh. -
Duh, sorry about that
That makes much more sense! -
although.... god of war might be nice too XD.
-
What drivers are you guys running? I haven't tried it with the newer Dell Beta drivers, but with updated Nvidia drivers I tried back when Metro came out, it improved performance quite a bit over stock Dell drivers. I wouldn't say it ran horrible, was actually totally playable, ranging from 30ish or so on up to 50's depending on what was happening.
In the beginning part in the station and during the ambush, with stock drivers I was getting like a terrible 12-15fps, but with the newer drivers it helped a ton and kept it above 20 worst case and usually much higher.
Now, the fact that the game itself didn't keep me playing is a different story ha... keep meaning to spend some more time with it though. -
I heard Split Second runned well on the m11x, how does it look? Could someone mention the settings & resolution (and FPS ofcourse) he/she is using? I played the X360 demo and it looked quite good.
-
We can drop about hoping to see dx11 gpu on m11x?
-
this game has FPS cap at 30 frames per second. doesn't matter vsync on or off.
-
thats not bad. 30fps is pretty standard. this is at max settings right?
-
Maybe for consoles, but it should be limited to 60 fps. Now that isn't even good enough, since 120hz laptop lcds are becoming more common.
-
doesn't matter setting low or high. 30 fps constant.
-
lol. so i guess run it at max and get a beautiful game running smooth at 30fps. i guess you guys are really used to 60fps or something but im used to like 20-30 frames cause my laptop is so underpowered and i got no desktop
-
You wont notice the difference between 30 and 30+ FPS, your eyes are not fast enough to really notice that. I used to play games on an old laptop too, but then I bought my xbox, and later my desktop. I'm happy with the performance of this laptop since most games run as good as they do on consoles, at a higher resolution, and they look better.
-
My eyes most certainly are fast enough to tell the difference. Even 60 fps is insufficient for what I would call perfect. I judge this by the fact that a 60hz crt looks like a strobe light (especially out of the corner of my eye, where the flicker fusion threshold is higher). I'm holding off on buying a new laptop because I'd like one with an oled or 120hz lcd.
Another thing is that frame rates matter more for some types of games than others. The most important being first person shooters. If you're going to be competitive at all, you need at least 60 frames per second.
Racing games feel, although not great, fully playable at around 30 frames per second.
Don't write off the significance of higher frame rates and refresh rates, since all our eyes aren't the same.
-
lol im like you
anything above 30 frames is negligible for me. -
An old CRT screen actually is a strobe light showing images, an LCD will not turn black between frames.
30fps is the barrier between playable and smooth for most people, and the max MW2 framerate is 30 on my xbox, that's enough for me. In games you need more accuracy etc. like CSS, I agree with 60fps, but 30 is smooth enough. -
I was under the impression that MW2 ran at a constant 60FPS on the 360 (certainly seemed that way on the SP campaign)... i do recall choppy framerates when playing online but i put it down to packet loss.
-
Does it run at 60FPS? I thought it ran at 30.
30FPS is still a smooth framerate IMO. -
Hi forum, my first post... Anyway I'm just wondering if any of you guys are having a laggy experience playing Bad Company 2 multiplayer in a 32 player game. It gets so laggy that is unplayable, plus it's real hard to aim because of input lag. Some maps are ok (e.g. Port Valdez and Valpairaso) but Arica Harbor is excruciating to play. I've read a few posts saying that it is not above 30+ FPS but its still smooth enough to play but I beg to differ. Maybe I am doing something wrong? My CPU is the SU7300 with 4 GB of ram. I play with a resolution of 1366 x 768 and settings set at medium. I did not edit the settings.ini file or do any tweaking. Please, could someone help me to make this game not such a bad experience?
-
I forgot to add that I'm using the Dell Nvidia beta driver and the new BIOS...
-
Tried blur, runs like crap. Total crap. 15 fps and no more...
-
I'm fully aware that a crt is actually flashing. My point was that even though an lcd isn't flashing, it can't be perfectly smooth at 60hz considering I can see that a crt is flashing. This can be very noticeable when rotating quickly in first person shooters. The reason 30 frames per second works on consoles is because you can't rotate nearly as fast.
-
i just installed and played assassins creed 2. oc.
getting 25-30 frames
running gamebooster
max everything X8 multisampling.
impressive :]
Edit: the frames do drop during cutscenes im getting like 18-20 frames during cutscenes but for gameplay its really smooth. almost as smooth as etzio's baby butt. XD -
I've seen the video for Napoleon Total War but it only showed a naval battle. This has me wondering how well the Campaign Map and land battles would work and what's the best setting for the game.
Heard that Rome: Total War runs only good at medium setting because of it being CPU heavy.
Isn't that weird that Napoleon and Empire run better than Rome? -
Did you purchase Crysis off of Steam or are you running a retail version? The reason I ask is because I have the Steam version and it runs like sh!t and I'm thinking it might be because they pushed the 32 bit version on everyone that purchased it off Steam.
-
Probably to do with Rome not supporting dual core processors.
-
Character Zero Notebook Evangelist
Steam version. -
ОО_оо i've got only 20 fps while walking on streets. Can you check it with out gamebooster?
-
I'm shocked. Crysis in 1366x768 and fully high settings gives me 15 fps, but if i use dx9 mode, i've same picture but 20 fps. And its really playable.
-
I can, my sensitivity is 7 in MW2, very high.
BTW: Motion blur is a solution for that
.
-
No setting on an xbox will compare to a wrist flick with a high dpi mouse.
Motion blur isn't a solution at all, but it is a nice cover up. -
So can you tell me what I'm doing wrong. I'm pretty computer savvy and I've spent countless hours and days trying to figure out how to correct the ingame sound issues, since I believe they are associated with the games framerate issues. I can't get rid of the crackling noise and sound stuttering in Crysis. I don't have those issues with Crysis Warhead. I have made several tweaks in the NVIDIA control panel and downloaded the most current sound and video drivers. I also downloaded Game Booster. Any advice?
-
How do I force Crysis to use DX 9 and did that solve the games sound issues (i.e. sound crackles and stutters which significately affects games framerate)?
-
did that solve the games sound issues
solution for sound issue:

add -dx9 to your shortcut -
Thanks. I just saw that there are newer sound drivers than the ones I downloaded 2 weeks ago. Will try those and I'll run the game using directx9. Probably still won't fix anything since I'll be running the 32 bit version of Crysis that I downloaded off of steam.
-
weird, i have 64bit since latest patch.
-
Did you check crysis folder in steam? maybe there is 64bit folder? Mine is here (not steam), something like this:
D:\Games\Crysis\Bin64\Crysis.exe -
gamebooster gives me like 2-3 frames. yeah when i tested it it was like at the beginning. but it definitely runs alot smoother with the fraps off. its good enough for me to get my assassins creed on. although, now i know why everyone's hooked on mass effect. just started the first one and its pretty awsome.
-
Anyone here playing Red Faction Guerrilla? No matter what resolution i set or what detail option i have, during heat and massive building destruction, my fps goes down...
-
I've had a sound error with Midway's "The Suffering." Regardless of whether or not I have "environmental fx" switched on or off, I seem to be missing sound effects, such as when Torque ducks or dodges, picks up a phone, reloads, etc. It seems random, like every other sound effect. Now I duplicated this exact same problem on my family's desktop PC running Windows 7 with an Audigy 2 ZS card and Creative Alchemy. This fixed it. I tried using Realtek's 3DSoundBack, a program similar to Alchemy. Could this be a DirectSound or EAX glitch?

I've been having some problems with the old Fallout 1&2 games. I just bought them from steam and installed them, but when I try to start the game it messes up all the colors. It looks like a very old 32 color game or something.
Fallout 1 is now fixed. I runned the game in compatibility mode with colors to 256 and resolution to 640x480 and as admin. Sometimes it starts up messed up again but most of the time it is good.
Fallout 2 doesn't allow this, when I change any option in the compatibility mode it crashes during startup saying the game is being run in this mode. I can't even run the game as admin and it will crash. Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this?
EDIT: found the solution! changed an ddraw.ini file setting => graphics mode 0 to 4
btw here's my list of games and how they run for those interested (I dont use fraps):
age of conan - settings to high (not very high) in dx9 mode runs 20-25 fps most of the time
borderlands - settings max except dynamic shadows runs smooth
crysis - settings high runs good enough for me, medium is smooth, but some crackling sound
dragon age: origins - settings max runs good most of the time
Oblivion goty - settings max runs very smooth
fallout 3 - settings high to max runs smooth
mass effect - settings max runs smooth with some stutters, but this is probably a problem with the game itself
portal - settings max incl AA ultra smooth
warhammer 40k dow 2 - settings high smooth
the witcher enchanced edition - settings max except AA and AF smooth with some stutters (same as mass effect I think)
