No 64 bit bin folder. I think I read somewhere that Valve decided to only allow the 32 bit version to be downloaded. Maybe due to windows 7 compatibility issues. I downloaded crysis warhead off of Steam and it came with both 32 and 64 bit versions. I must say that the 64 bit version runs smoother. Probably since its able to access all 8 gigs of ram. Maybe, maybe not.

Thanks. It still has sound issues but I don't think theres anything I can do to fix it. Hopefully Crysis 2 will run on the M11x without any issues. DX9 did make the game run faster though and again I appreciate the help.

Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War II runs awesome, but makes the laptop very hot.. I suggest to take a 10 minute break every hour, unless you're using a notebook cooler (I have a notepal myself, it keeps it cool :)).

I wonder if Crysis 2 will run better than Crysis 1. Would be great to play it on the road.

Here's my list of games I've played on my M11x. My system has the Intel Core 2 Duo chipset, 8 gig's of RAM and a 7200 rpm drive. I use Game Booster and I Do Not overclock my processor. Its not worth it in my opinion and I have has several games lock up or act funny when it's enabled. If you want specific detail settings, feel free to ask.

Unreal Tournament 2004 - Max Settings (This game is old but looks great and is still fun as hell to play)

Command and Conquer 3 - Max Settings - except for AA I think that was at 2

Crysis - Medium to High Settings (Stay clear of the Steam version and if you buy the retail version, ensure you run the 64bit version)

Crysis Warhead - Medium to High Settings (Ensure you run the 64bit version)

Deus Ex GOTY edition - Max Settings (Old game but still fun in my opinion)

Deus Ex Invisible War - Max Settings (Same as above, looks better than the first as you could imagine)

Cryostasis - Dont remember but I think its safe to say it was Medium to High but I remember the game looked and performed great.

F.E.A.R. - Max Settings (Looks better than it did on my Xbox 360 and plays better as well)

Shogo: Mobile Armor Division - Max Settings (I had a difficult time getting this one to run but it was well worth it. Nothing better than a good old fashioned FPS but with Mechs)

Evil Genius - Max Settings (can't get the image to stretch, fun game though)

Just Cause 2 Demo - Don't remember the settings since it auto detected but I do remember being impressed. Looked as good, if not better than my PS3 version. The game is awesome and I'm actually thinking about buying it again. Thats how fun it is and how well it performs on the M11x.

    @Spaniard

Perhaps your CPU is susceptible to the lack of vcore when OC'd.. I've used my M11x extensively for just over 2 months and not had a single related error. Definitely worth doing if it can run stable.

I have been playing DDO (Dungeon and Dragons Online) and I am so impressed that you can play this game @ very high settings, native rez and get from 25 (crowded city) to 60 in dungeons. Again very high settings with 2aa. If I oc the gpu it goes up by about 5 - 7 fps. You can enable 4xaa but I dont think it's necessary on this type of game. For a free MMO it is very cool.. I was on the first island (levels 1-3) and there is a part where you are looking into the ice below you and you can actually SEE an ICE dragon chasing other party members below the ice... It looks sooo cool.. anyways...

    Take Care,

Just wondering if you guys are getting a message in Starcraft 2 beta saying that the video card driver is out of date. is this because of the Alienware binary GFX driver?

NVIDIA released a special beta for SC2 (197.25). Didn't feel great advantages in comparison to 197.12 from Dell.

3vs3 and 4vs4 get choppy at some point... because of the weak cpu. Perhaps they'll optimize the game even more for multicore, since neither the gpu nor the cpu utilization is near 100%...

Just finished Crysis (not warhead). Very playable for the most part framerates ranged between 20-35 fps occasionaly dipping (or peaking) above or below this. Suprised to see the framerate on the last level was pretty good.

The settings I used were 64bit exe, dx9 mode, everything on Medium apart from textures which was High and motion blur was Low.

    Very, very enjoyable experience.

    Right... on to Warhead now....

I'm running Crysis on the exact same settings, i agree that there is no reason to put anything other than textures on high as it's the only option that makes a drastic difference.

i think there is a bug in starcraft 2 or it is not optimized...cause running everything at ultra setting give me 20 fps only during the start of the game with 2 v2 (3 computer AI)

i dont think it is the CPU issue case at the beginning of the game the most unit per player is maybe 6? so 6 x 4 is only about 24 units on the screen , and the fps already drop to 20fps...

unless i put the shader setting to low..then the fps will go up real high up to 50 to 60fps..

I've been playing F.E.A.R. 2 with almost everything set to high, except AA is on x2 and anisotropic filtering was turned down a little. Runs pretty smooth, even in the heavy firefight scenes

Yeah, every other setting is on medium.. will set shaders to high, hope the FPS doesn't drop to unbareable lows. So impressed by this little machines abilty to run almost anything that it has usurped my desktop PC as my main gaming rig.

You just spoke a foreign language to me. I just got back into pc gaming by buying this laptop, so please forgive my ignorance. What do you mean by "Perhaps your CPU is susceptible to the lack of vcore when OC'd"? Are you telling me overclocking my computer and leaving it that way will correct that over time or are you saying I purchased a defective product? Thanks in advance.

It is a known issue that a small percentage of M11x CPUs have stability issues when overclocked. Usually when the CPU is OC'd voltage too is increased to facilitate the additional clockspeed. This is not true of the M11x as the voltage remains static and because of this some (weak) CPUs find it difficult to perform at 1.73ghz consistently. DELL don't seem to be addressing the problem so from my view you have a defective product which needs to be replaced with one which can perform as advertised.

    Hey,

I have a small problem. When I unplug my m11x, performance decreases in Dirt 2. I don't have any power saving settings on, no CPU underclocking when unplugged etc.

When I'm in the options section (not in a race) I use to have like 49fps(ofcourse not that high when racing), but when I unplug it drops to 30>! it gets really choppy when I cycle trough my rides and stuff. How do I fix this?

Open alienware power settings (alienfusion?).... select 'peformance' profile, and tweak them.... look in advanced settings and you will probably see that the GPU settings are different for battery. Make sure the GPU is set for maximum perfomance in both mains and battery settings.

Ultra: Average FPS: 26 Min FPS: 19.2

Custom: Most low, some medium, few high: Average FPS 28.5 Min FPS: 23.5

Doesn't GTA4 only run decently on high end Dual Core's and Quad-Cores?

That game is opitome of port failure. And absolutely tragedy and blight upon the face of PC gaming.

Had that stuff been optimized well.. really well... then that thing would have been spinning on Atom with Ion 2!

About the hypethreading in i5 and i7 - I remember my old 1.8 GHz Pentium 4 had Hyper Threading.

It was always enabled, but I don't remember it doing much. It's funny how this "old" technology sorta have come back into these new processors!

    Hi Guys,

Been running Blur on 800 x 600 resolution with settings low.

Fairly sure this is a CPU dependent game, but anything higher than the settings above game would stutter alot.

    CPU is overclocked too.

    Just so you know :)

    32bit DX10 crysis
everything high except objects which is medium.

no hitches except during cutscenes but thats the same for almost all the games iv played. i guess cutscenes really take it out on the cpu. but gameplay is smooth as butter.

If you switch to dx9 mode you get even more speed for practically zero difference in visuals. The dx10 version of crysis is known to be much slower than dx9.

To be honest, it's not the best of games. The one from 2008, as I said have amazing art and graphics, but the combat is really lackluster and you can't really die in the game.

Despite these big flaws, I still found some enjoyment and appreciation for the game. It's a visual treat, at any rate.

Zeno Clash - Was called the best indie game by many last year. I have not played it myself, but the graphics look good thanks to the bright colors, and smooth animations. It's a first person brawler... that actually seems to work: YouTube - Zeno Clash: Ultimate Edition: Gameplay Trailer

Yep, Zeno Clash is a great game, really cool world and art direction with solid gameplay to back it up, definitely worth playing.

Also, finally spent some quality time with borderlands, and that's a really fun game and plays and looks awesome on the m11x. Running native res and on high, plays great. Was stuck in a car for a few hours, played beautifully on battery.

I sometimes have that problem too (both drivers).

Metro 2033 runs suprisingly well on the m11x; DX10, 1280x720, 4xAA, Quality on Normal.

It runs better on normal on my m11x than it does on very high on my desktop (played it for about 3-4 hours now on my desktop, great game, runs pretty good). On many places (especially markets and stuff inside the metro) it's capable of high and even very high, but as soon theres a bright light with some sunshafts, or when you go outside, normal is the only option.

Still looks better than console on normal, plays better too!

(Using SU7300 btw; might run on high with an i5/i7)

Have taken Steam up on their BC2 offer today.

Played 20 mins of SP and 10 mins of MP.

Settings: Advanced... Detail:Medium, Textures: High: Shadows: Low, Effects:Medium, Filtering 1x, AA 1x, Vsync off.

Got between 25 and 45 fps (mostly around the 30 mark) in SP - first 20 mins.
MP was predicatably more varied.. ranging from 15 (rock bottom) up to 50s.

Overall.. very impressed. I've probably got the settings too high for the full SP game - I'm sure it must get more intense, but so far so good.

Hope Steam have an offer on JC2 soon...

    /edit oh yeh... resolution 1280x720.

/edit CPU OC of course and GPU slightly OC (515 core,1200 shader, 820 mem)
