lol not to be the resident slow guy, but not entirely sure how to turn off the page file. I will gladly do so if you think it will help.

Aznguy, what is Max FPS settings in wow? I have combed through every setting and not seeing it. Any advice will be gladly taken and tried.

I kept my textures up and turned things like shadows and view distance all down to low. Anything else, please let me know. Thanks.

While I don't know in Windows 7, in xp you:

    Right click my computer
    go to properties
    Advanced tab
    Under Performance, click settings
    click advanced
    click change

Here you set the page file for each drive. Change to 0mb, although I think minium it allows is 4mb (been a while).

The idea is you have enough ram to cover everything you are going to run. Ram is natively faster than switching out data with a hard drive.

(Alternative to right clicking my computer, it is in control panel > system, then the rest of the steps).

Spell effects, shaders, dynamic lights, I don't know what all the options are in WoW but these are some common things that are bandwidth heavy, no need to turn them off, just start dropping things down and see what helps.

If you wanted to list them I could give you some settings to try. But I know there might be a crap ton of options so you might not want to type it all out.

View distance is not necessarily something I would turn down, but I would have to experiment.

To turn off page file is start, right click computer, properties, on the left top area of the window that pops up click advanced system settings, in the net window that pops up hit settings in the performance box, go to the advanced tab of the new window, hit change in the virtual memory box, set to no paging file, hit the set button, hit ok on all the windows, it should ask to restart, voila. Lord, that was longer than I though.

Or you can click start and put "virtual memory" in the search box at the bottom to get the help article to do it.

appreciate the advice. I will be home in about 20 min and will do this exactly. I can also list the settings. Its not a real bother, especially with all the help I am getting.

Edit: as per the heat issue. I have a laptop cooler, but the machine where my left hand rest is smoking hot after a bit of gaming. Think this is related to OCing the cpu or is it more a GPU issue?

OK so back and I've wired my M11x into my Samsung TV and It's kicked into Overdrive. I'm running Batman AA and Fallout 3 with Max all possible settings other than AA and Physicx @ 1920x1080 without a single drop in frame. Guess if you bump the Rez up the Turbo boost really kicks in.

I'd assume it is whichever is physically closest to that spot under the hood.

I think it would be processor, but really there are temperature monitoring programs that will tell you what is what. I'd use that. Figure the temps out and let us know.

I think that might be the HDD under your left hand? I'm not sure, I know it is on one side under the hand rest, but turning off page file could help HDD temps, if that happens to be what it is.

Also, be sure to check your power settings, make sure you are on high performance when playing WoW and that none of the power saving options are on for the GPU.

    Judging by this post http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...-gaming-discussion-thread-76.html#post6237518

It looks like shadows and particle density might be the big ones, he also turned down ground clutter, but I don't know how much that effects it.

Well I adjusted some settings. Seems to be a bit better, but won't know for sure until I raid again on Tuesday.

The power management is set to high and the nvidia is on high performance setting per the tray in the bottom right corner. Is there something else I need to do to ensure that my power is maxed on the gpu? Again, very sorry for my noobish ways. Trying to learn more about this machine and most of the tech talk goes right over my head.

    Thanks again for the advice.

What are your CPU temps? 55c on the GPU seems very reasonable.

I did try the page file and so far the gaming has been a bit improved. I can not really test the performance until I raid, and that will be either later tonight or tomorrow.

My HDD is staying in the 40's Celsius and I am continuing to monitor it. I will update when I get to really test it out. Thanks again. You guys have been wonderful.

The biggest drain I've found with WoW is running in a Window. I couldn't run with everything turned up as it would bog heavily. Turn off Run in Window and you'll 50+fps with everything turned up.

a quick question for online gaming. is this speed good for playing games online?
downloads up to 1.5 Mbps and uploads up to 384 Kbps.
    is from a cable company.

Not great, perhaps managable, but if you do a lot of online gaming or downloading you will want higher speeds.

    Hey everyone,

I just got a 32" LG full HD tv and have been playing a lot of games on it through hdmi. Btw its surprisingly easy to connect it to my tv and play on 1920x1080.

Dawn of war 2: almost max settings except shadows and a few other minor effects. Plays really smooth
Dead space: settings maxed - really creepy game on full hd, but ultra smooth
    Oblivion: maxed - very smooth
Fallout 3 - almost everything max except shadows - very smooth

    etc :p

actually everything seems to run exactly the same on 1366x768 as on 1920x1080!

Just ordered Just Cause 2 and Assassin's Creed 2 from Amazon.

I will post my experience here. Especially with AC2 as I couldn't find much re:m11x performance. I think JC2 will run fine though (I've played the demo to death now)

Careful with JC2 and the new nvidia drivers. I updated mine and the JC2 demo no longer works. I rolled back and it works. I then reapplied the new drivers(posted here on the forums) and yep, it's broke again.

Don't expect much, I posted a benchmark a few days ago from Gamespot (which I now cannot find) that showed the difference between a $50 Pentium 4 and a $1000 dollar C2D Extreme Quad was only 10 FPS. So going from a Pentium 4 single core to the fastest quad core on earth only gave 10 FPS.

Expect the i7 to add AT MAXIMUM, 3 FPS, and most likely less than 3, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if there was absolutely no difference in performance. WoW is bandwidth bound the M11X, and so CPU has no noticeable effect.

    Edit: Link, http://www.gamespot.com/features/6202200/p-6.html

Looking at that CPU obviously has nearly no impact on WoW performance, you can spend $1000 and get a 10 FPS improvement from a 6 year old P4.

Hi MexicanSnake. Just got AC2 today. It does look good. Havent tried it on my HDTV just yet, but will do later. Question: Do you OC the GPU? When you say maxed, I presume no AA?

For everyones benefit, I can confirm that the R1 plays it beautifully on a least medium settings (better framerates than AC1). Shame about the draconian DRM :(

I just tried it on the old HDTV and got around 30fps on m11x native res. For some reason 1080p wasnt offered to me (even though the TV is capable of it).

I using the Dell beta drivers still (from April)

Wnat do you mean by modded drivers? What versions and how did you mod them?

Hmmm MexicanSnake. Tried various setting and OCed the GPU a bit. Still nowhere near your performance on my R1. (In AC2) With everything maxed (No AA, No Vsync) I get an average of around 20fps. Still playable but dropping everything to lowest (Res and settings) stilll didn't boost my average above 25fps. That driver must be damn good.

You have an R1 correct? Please give us details on your driver/settings and where in the game you are when you get 28-35fps...

I know beta is down, but what is people general experience with starcraft 2 beta? both R1 and R2 if anyone has played with custom AI or replays?

Im curious if its actually playable on High or if its on the edge of being playable? if you have to go down to medium to get it 100% smooth for competitive play?

I appreciate your answers! thanks a lot.

After a spending spree fuelled by Amazon offers and Steam offers, I can report on these games...

Assassin's Creed 2 - Played the first 30 mins or so. Fairly playable averages around 25 fps. Dips to as low as 15-20. Must be CPU bound (on an OCed R1) as I changing the settings barely makes a difference to framerate.
Just Cause 2- Played the first hour of the game. Very playable on Medium settings (No AA, No Vsync, SSAO (and all the other effects) off). First section of the game averaged in the 30s. I saw peaks in the High 50s and never saw it dip below 25.
Bioshock 2 - Played first 10 minutes. Everything maxed (NO AA or Vsync) Framerate always above 30fps. Same sort of performance as Bioshock 1.
Tom Clancy's Hawx - Played for a few minutes first thing this morning. Everything maxed (No AA, Vsync On). Didn't have fraps running but felt very smooth. Early signs are good.
Resident Evil 5 - Played first 10 minutes. Everything maxed (No AA or Vsync). Seemed to average around 30fps if I recall. Felt very smooth and playable.

Still to test... Kane and Lynch Dead Men.....

Transformers work fine without a problem. Has anyone gotten Street Fighter 4 to work with the GPU? When I run the benchmark it says that it's going through the Intel chipset. Still running at 60fps but just wondering if there was a way to get it to recognize the gpu?

Chicken, dont even bother with the m11x. I had it for my m17 before I sold it with dual hd 3870s and an overclocked p8600 to 2.8ghz and it still didnt play well. Needs true quad. not hyper quad. Feel free to try though... I tried it on my own m11x and most that see my benchmarks know that my m11x is about as optimized as you can get. Some parts of the game would play but anytime you have large maps, even in single player with firefights the fps goes down like Niagara Falls. I wish we could play that game. It is what I consider the BFBC2 killer...

    Best wishes,

@chicken - yeah it was funny. I had arma2 installed and i was bragging and stuff... right up until the point i hit the second mission (day) and i descended into the town. There when my fps plummeted to around 11-12 I was so mad... but I should have expected it. We fall well below minimum specs.

Has anyone tried running pcsx2 (PS2 emulator) on the m11x (r1 or r2)? I really want to know before I buy if the M11x can run an emulator like that (I understand it can be very CPU heavy).

all point bulletin is a pay to play mmo..

ok so iv just played two hours and omg its laggy as hell. i thought it was my internet connection but i put specs to min and its still a very low fps, you can go around on foot at around 25fps though its very difficult in combat as the fps goes down to around 10fps.

driving is a nightmare, always losing control of my car.. its a shame because it looks like a really cool game.

my specs are m11x r1, su7300 (non oc), 4 gb RAM etc

i might have a go when i overclock my system but im still scared of doing so.

Why are you scared? It's designed to be OC'd, I did mine as soon as it came out of the box. No problemo :)

im not a techie so i dont know all the in's and out's but iv heard that there are some models that break or have an error in the system when u OC, then iv heard of more issues about warrenty not being covered even when stated it can be OC.

and im attached atm i cant afford to send it back and wait for it to be fixed when i need it for work etc.

(please correct me if im wrong i want the CPU to be faster! lol)
