Pezza, check the game forum in the main and search APB. There is some serious optimization that can be done. I was curious to see how m11x folks like APB. Also you need to find out from the APB forums if the memory leak got fixed int he main exe. Folks were able to double fps with optimizations. Disable hsao, bloom, ambient occlusion, etc... Good Luck, StevenX

ps.. the specs say the minimum is 2.16 ghz dual core.

    BW,

    StevenX

Anyone with the M11X and APB should go here: Changing ini settings - APB: All Points Bulletin

Do some of the tweaks there and see. In the beta on my M11X I could get 35-60 FPS much of the time, but when driving or moving through an area fast it would bog down. I suspect that if I had known about the ini tweaks I could have solved that problem, it was on the edge of playable, and some people report doubling their FPS with those tweaks. I would love for someone to report their results. I might like to get APB, but not if it won't run.

thanks for the advice guys, changing the .ini file did improve the fps alot, however its still not smooth, the driving is still bad.

i think im going to save up to fix my pc instead of using the m11x for this game.

anyone know if this game is fine using the i3 processor? or should i jump straight to i5?

Apb is not a monthly subscription mmo, but you buy time to play. The nice thing about apb from my understanding is that you only pay for what you use and I read that there was alot of play time given to the initial box/digital download. Heres what Iv gathered from the knowledge base at apbs website
So no theres no monthly subscription...but you can buy a monthly subscription if you want it. I think the initial buy of the game grants players 50 hours of free game time but I could be mistaken, so thats quite a bit of free play time just for the box copy. As far as a demo, it just released today, theres no demo...it just went live...all the servers...etc...

Heres a bit more indepth info about the payment process from two perspectives..

I don't think APB will get very far. The "Pay to play" is a major turn off, for what is basically a online action game. It's too bad, as it has some real cool ideas.

I think it's better than a subscription. With a subscription you may feel obligated to play a game you'd really rather not play just because you've paid for 6 months or whatever. And it makes it more difficult to just play a weekend or two once in a while without feeling like you arent getting your "moneys worth."

That said I dont play anything that requires more than the initial purchase to play. Never have and likely never will so APB wont get any of my money.

I avoid things like subscriptions and add-on content like the plague. Any transaction other than the initial game purchase is bull.

You can sell ingame items for rtw points though which you can use to buy game time. This is a great idea I think, so it dosnt have to be a pay to play if you sell stuff ingame. ITs a mmorpg, mmos cost money to play, thats just the nature of the beast.

I think EVE Online is the best example of paying gametime with ingame money. It's just brilliant.

Does anyone know if Red Faction Guerilla plays well on the M11x?

@Thomas - NO.. please dont get Guerilla faction... Man this runs slow on the m11x. When building crumble, so do the FPS. I bought this cheap and now wish I had not...

Hi all. There has been alot of discussion on here about frame rates and benchmarks in certain games. I am thinking of getting an M11X, but my main concern is how how games look on the screen (being so small and all). Whilst I have tried to use gameplay videos on Youtube as a guide, most of them are for FPS or action games. I would imagine that these sort of games would be suitable for a small screen. What I am interested in is how more detailed games (like RTS or strategy games, e.g. empire total war or ANNO 1404), that have small icons or lots of units of soldiers on the screen, look like? Do you find that you have to squint at the screen or use an external screen to see these small details?

@Stickinsect - my wife has anno 1404 installed on her m11x. She likes it and it plays at high/medium settings fine without graphics overclock. Just standard cpu oc. She has the R1 with su7300

    Transformers on m11x using FRAPS
    high textures
    1366x768 26-30
1080p (sort of, adjusted a bit to fit correctly to TV) 20-30 hit low 20s briefly
Seems to be locked to 30 fps
Might have to put it to 720p for online.

ETA : Played online (which is pretty fun) at 1280x720 on High and it played very well. I might keep it there, thats what it would be playing in on a ps3 or 360 anyway

    Some gaming updates (R1 @1.73)

Kane & Lynch Dead Men. 10 minutes played. All max, no AA. >30 fps, but the occassional stutter. Seems to be playable.

    and a couple of mmos.

Eve Online. Max everything at native. 1 hour played. Flawless 60fps nearly all the time. (No big fleet stuff though).
Age of Conan. DX9 Medium, plus a few tweaks (grass switched on etc.). 3 hours played. A very busy Tortage was averaging around 30fps. Out in the wilds, anywhere between 30 and 60 fps depending on what was going on. Very impressed. Looks great. Don't even try DX10!

People with desktops running 2.8ghz, i7's and ati radeon 5830's are barely squeezing out 2000 on this benchmark. I hope they release a more accurate benchmark before the game launches in 3 weeks.

You know, since this is one of the biggest reasons I bought this laptop + it's portability.

There is a FPS Unlocker program from FPS UNLOCKER [by Psych] - keep stickied and rep - Steam Users' Forums for Transformers

However it requires that the numlock key is on so that you can press 0 to turn it on or off. Problem is that there is no num lock key on the keyboard. At least none that I can see. Does anyone have any ideas? I don't currently have a usb keyboard to try it out.

Some more games courtesy of my back collection and the steam sale...

Tropico 3. 2 hours played. Plays very well on around Medium/High. Push it too hard and you get BIG stutters (fps down to 0 stutters). Be a bit sensible on the settings and it runs smooth as silk.
Sega Rally Revo. High FRAP FPS (30-60 on max) but has an annoying graphical judder. Gonna see if there is a solution to this out there....
Spore. Plays acceptably well on Max settings (No AA) as you would expect.

This interests me ALOT. On my old desktop Tropico 3 (on the lowest settings) ran like a potato! On the otherside, Spore ran VERY well. All of this on integrated graphics with a halfway decent processor....

I never was able to give Tropico a chance, now I might be able to!

ARMA2, ARMA 2, ARMED ASSAULT 2 Here are a couple of screenshots. Patch at 1.07 performance is better than before and playable but frames are nowhere near where it needs to be to be smooth for us.. played single player and a quick multiplayer. Multi is about dead. Game looks amazing, even on normal/low. Frames usually go from 15-24 but are mostly around 18-21. The frames in pics below are 17-19. GPU oc doesnt help. standard cpu oc. Utilization percent at 91-93, gpu at 70 percent.
Just played another single player mission with complexity @240000 (high) and I was averaging 26fps. Not bad for our m11x.
    Best Wishes, StevenX

Thanks stevenowens I have ARMA II in my steam list (from the last big sale), but never bothered trying it, and then when I read your post some pages back (think it was you anyway - I can't be bothered to check!) about the performance, I thought I would never bother. I will give it a go now.

I recently bought Bioshock through steam and am running into issues with it. First, it won't start in dx10 so I need to run it in dx9 and when I play it in dx9 I hear sound crackling and the framerate suffers while playing it. Am running it on the m11xr1 with 4gb ram. If anyone has a solution it would be greatly appreciated.

I dont think u guys want to know the fps for METRO 2033. I played it on the "LOW" and it was playable. It has nice graphics.

FPS will be around 18~50. (35 FPS is just for walking around in certain areas)

I did not disable my powermizer, i think ill do that later tmr or so.

Medal Of Honor Beta - M11x R1, Settings low, several matches, Kabul map, FPS in mid 30s to 40s. Never below 30. Plays a lot like MW2. I think this will suite MW2 fans better than BFBC2. I think the engine is more optimized from what I can tell. I need to try some other settings to get an idea of full potential. Best Wishes, StevenX

I am sure this has been asked somewhere before, but I have not come across it so am asking it 'again'.

I am interested in purchasing Starcraft II when it is released on Jul 27, but am wondering how you guys plan to play it since the m11x does not come with an internal CD/DVD drive.

I have heard that after you purchase a hardcopy of the game, when blizzard makes the digital copy available, you will be able to download the digital copy(AFter registration of the hardcopy licence code) and play without the CD. -Can someone confirm this?

However, since the digital copy will not be available at launch period, so does it mean that for the first two weeks or so, everyone will have to play the game with an external drive?

    Thanks for any thoughts. :)

I am not sure that the digital copy won't be available day one, you will just need to buy a boxed copy and enter the code on battle.net to be able to download the digital copy.

However, the common belief is that SC2 will not require the disc in the drive anyway, so all you have to do is get it installed, via a disc image or an external drive, and it should work.

This sounds like an Optimus problem, because LoL uses 3 different executable files your going to need to hunt down and add the actual game executable to the optimus list. Note there is a launcher executable, a PVP.net executable, and the actual game client.

since i installed on mine i couldnt play it. i contacted steam and they told me to this:

Hello, Thank you for contacting Steam Support. Please exit Steam and go to the folder called C:\Program Files\Steam\ (this is the default location for a Steam installation - if you set a different installation directory, you will need to browse to it). Delete all of the files in this folder except: The \Steamapps\ folder and Steam.exe (this file is listed as an application and features the black and white Steam logo) Restart your computer. Then, launch Steam.exe from within the Steam installation folder, and not from a pre-existing shortcut. With Steam running, re-test the original issue. Note: This process will not affect your currently installed games. Additionally, please complete this process for your installed game(s): Title: Verifying Game Cache Files (GCF) Link: http://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335 Let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

i did what they say but still didnt work lol. try that to see if it works for you.

I wanted to post a few screenshots from DDO (dungeons and dragons online). It is free to start and it is such a cool game. My wife and I play together and it is so much fun. The game flies on the m11x too. I am talking high settings at above 80 fps. Most of the time 90-120.

    Best wishes, StevenX

what drivers are people using for starcraft 2 beta? I have a sense that the m11x is affected by the strange fps drop that seems to hit a lot of people since phase2 has started. Anyone?

I'm going to test these now!

    NVIDIA DRIVERS 189.79

they are newer than the default DELL drivers and the DELL BETA has massive issues with starcraft 2 phase2, practically all 257/258 drivers could suffer according to people on the bnet forum.

The 189.79 addresses sc2 beta (the first phase back then but stilll) as a fix for optimus.

They didn't seem to do well... or any better.

Is there is a way to use non optimus drivers? like the good old 197.45 drivers? and then just.. bypass the Intel gpu? the stock dell drivers does not seem to activate the 335m when running starcraft.. which means 3fps in the menu.

No, you have to run Optimus drivers. You also cannot disable the the IGP since it's always needed in order to pass video to the LCD.

Hi, Bioshock has some problems indeed. First install it wasn't working at all, second it works good but sometimes changes to widowed mode for reason unknown. Not installed it a third time since I'm on vacation right now and I don't have wifi, sitting at a local bar using my iPod touch ATM(I'm using steam so I cant reinstall).

Just reinstall it a couple of times and it should be fine.

I'm having trouble with Just Cause 2.

Using the beta drivers from Dell. The 335M is set as the default card and I added Steam and the JC executable to the white list and I get a fatal directx error code 3.

Ive tried reinstalling DirectX, running things in admin mode and unistalling and reinstalling several times.

    Cant figure it out.

Im going to give the Nvidia verde drivers a try later.

If anyone knows a sure fix Id love to hear it.
