    Hi Josh,

Yes, I have an i5. I am overclocked to 166 MHz

In ThrottleStop,I have the multiplier set to 9.0, TDP is 30 and TDC is 60. Force TDP/TDC is 8.

    Cheers,
    Stain

Thank you so much! I have been looking around and have seen numbers ranging from 20/30 all the way to 100/100. Figuring i have no clue what they mean, i was a little more than confused. Is there any other setting i should be tinkering with to maximize gains?

Hmmm, that is really all there is to it. Some are tweaking a bit to squeeze a little more out of the CPU, but this does the trick just fine for me when I did my own benchmarks. Just make sure you have a stable overclock. Mine has never blue-screened on me at 166MHz or had any problems during tress testing, but that is good luck that I got a good CPU.

Some get fancy and have ThrottleStop load up on boot, and then set a different profile within TS for AC power and Battery. Essentially, making it not use TS when on battery even though TS is loaded into memory. I take the opposite approach. I only load it when I want to use it. I just added it to my Windows taskbar so it is one click away when I need it.

I guess the next step would be to OC the GPU. I have not messed with this yet. With ThrottleStop, the M11xR2 i5 has played everything I have thrown at it just fine. and I did not want to make it any hotter when running games. I know it will not hurt anything, but it gets warm on the old lap :)

    Cheers,
    Stain

Using TS Bench is a great way to test whether or not your power limit settings are giving you a max multiplier. As an example, at 20/30 my i7 never reached the max multiplier, but at 100/100 it does (this is why that is probably the most common ratio, simply because you'll be nowhere near the threshold). I recently tried 50/50 and also had max multiplier during the entire benchmark. The threshold is obviously somewhere in the middle, and you want to make sure you're just above it.

Also, to my surprise, I had to set the Force TDP/TDC to its minimum value of 4. Anything above I wouldn't get maximum OC. The story might be different with i5, but if you have a couple of hours to burn, it's worth testing.

TS is awesome, but for gaming, in my experience, I have no main change, I can play the same games, maybe get a little more AA, or something that without it, you are not gonna miss it...

Still should help to performance, because if you go from 28-32fps to 30-34fps in a game, is good, but actually playing it, not doing benchs or using fraps, you are not gonna see the change....

I use it to convert videos, there is where i saw a big change, i converted the same HD video 2 times, one with TS and the same without it, took around 20 min less with TS to do it, and when you convert a lot of videos, you save hours of work

That's awesome. If you do a lot of this type of work, could you keep some records and put together a small chart? It would be nice to have something to visually reference.

Yeah but I mean I can play assassins creed II at high settings but after maybe 30 minutes the FPS drops like crazy and my laptop creates a lot of heat. Im not sure if TS will help

Yeah, ThrottleStop only works for the R2. I assume your issues are either related to heat and the processor throttling down, or just memory leaks in the game itself. Read up a bit on Assassin's Creed 2 to see if it is a common problem on all computers.

Next is to try to reduce the heat. Get a laptop cooler or don't play it directly on your bed. Also, you could try updating the BIOS to the latest version since it updates the fan tables. This essentially makes them come on earlier and blow a little harder. They added these changes to the newest BIOS for a reason. There is a sticky post at the top of the forum with the latest Bios. Make sure you get the R1 version not the R2 version.

I am not sure what else to try since I have the R2

    Good luck,
    Stain

How is Resident Evil 5 running on R1?
I saw a R1 running the benchmark on Youtube and it was amazing, however when I benchmark on mine on the same setting, I get horrible framerate and somehow it keeps stuttering as well D:

    Dx9
    Result is 23.4FPS C btw.

Result I saw on youtube is 41fps B.

    EDIT:-
Um never mind, somehow I fixed it after rebooting once lol.
Guess it's never a bad idea to reboot after installing something new.

GAMES WITH R1 CPU OC AT 1.7GHZ and NO GPU OC:

-LFD2 runs smooth (like 38-40 fps and also smooth without OC).
    -Alien swarm runs smooth
-Just cause 2: You have to play with the settings but i can't get more than 30fps with all low (FRAPS); with high and some mediums settings, 2x AA and 4x anisotropic filtering i get an average of 21- 24 fps.
-Batman Arkham GOTY: smooth with high settings and without physx activated (if you activate it the game lags). Without OC you need to adjust some settings in Medium.
-Defense grid the awakening runs smooth. also without OC
-Football manager 2011 runs smooth. also without OC
-Max Payne 2 smooth also without OC
-Need for speed world runs smooth also without OC
-Empires total war... laggy, i didnt like the game.
    - stalker shadows of chernobyl ...smooth also without OC
-wheels of steel extreme....smooth also without OC
    - Timeshift -smooth also without OC
-Civilization V: Im doing the tutorials and im doing well at high settings, maybe in intense battles it will lag but i dont know, recommend to OC the CPU with this game.

Thinking of more unconventional titles to get this season.

Drop AA completely as it will kill your FPS. The 335m doesn't really have the grunt for it (not to mention the lack of memory bandwidth). I am getting between 22 and 30fps with a mixture of High and medium settings at 1366x768 (advanced stuff like HBAO and Cuda water are off). I have the framerate capped (command line when booting from Steam) at 30fps which helps the game "feel" much smoother.

Additionally JC2 responds well to both newer drivers (258.96 in my case) and a GPU overclock (especially the memory). My GPU is running at 585/1404/1800 for JC2 (up from 450/1080/1580).

In Just Cause 2 the shadow quality kills more the frame rate than AA, set them to low, the rest like this photo of my settings:

    http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b245/VIdaluko/JustCause22010-12-2412-47-42-34.jpg

I get from 30 to 45fps in the game, I have the m11x R2, but it was not OC or using TS with that test, and I have never OC the GPU...

You need to play with the settings, and like I said, in a lot of games, shadow quality drains more frames than AA, and you don´t see shadows that often, not more than AA, since zero AA can been seen

I can confirm that Splinter cell: conviction plays and looks great even at low settings on my R1, i'm really enjoying this game so far. gets a bit glitchy during cut scenes but game play hasn't shuttered for me once.

Finally picked up all DLC of borderlands and they work great. i play on high textures, medium everything else with with everything but dynamic shadows turned on and constantly get 40fps. only when i get shot by an elemental rocket launcher does it drop around 25.

BFBC2 runs great for me. i play on low settings b/c at least for me fps>graphic quality.

The Witcher i've been having problems finding a happy setting, picked it up on steam a few days back for 6 bucks. the game is great, just haven't been having luck with a setting that agrees with the R1.

I also picked up Sniper Elite and i think it goes without saying the R1 eats this game. i'm getting 70+ at all times.

Lately i've been having problems with just cause 2 randomly crashing on me. gonna figure that out today.

Downloading dead space when i get home. i couldn't pass it up for only 7 bucks. but i'm kinda leary on performance since shadows are what kills performance in most games on the R1. lets hope it's coded extremely well. I'll keep you guys updated

    More from the Steam sales:

Flatout UC: Runs great, all high settings, native res and 2xAA, for some reason if I put 4xAA the game does not work, but it runs perfect with 2, it has some frame drops when a lot of stuff is in the screen, but you don´t see it, only if you have fraps you can see some frame drops....

Red Faction Guerrilla: Also, runs great, all mediums, native resolution, the game at those settings looks WAY better than the console versions, it has some serious frame drops when destroying a building, it get to like 10fps, but for a few seconds, and only with very big structures....

All of those tests/plays without OC or using TS, with the m11x R2

The mouse in game is VERY smooth, DS was definitely made with the controller in mind. Nevertheless, it doesn't take long to get used to. Really good game, just hope that DS2 runs as well on the R1.

    Enjoy

Thanks for the input, everyone - here's what I found out:

All of the games listed below were tested using the M11xR1 with an external 22'' hd monitor, connected via HDMI or VGA - so the resolution was 1920x1080 for every game.

Age Of Conan - since the game is notorious for what it demands - it runs surprisingly good and smooth at dx9, highest settings. Might be a good idea to disable grass rendering though.

Eve Online - runs perfect at highest settings. On the other hand - why shouldn't it?

Lord of the Rings Online - runs well, though certain settings are best lowered to reduce stuttering.

Dungeons and Dragons Online - runs well at highest settings.

Atlantica Online - runs very well at high settings.

Fallen Earth - runs well - but heats up the GPU significantly.

Bloodline Champions - runs perfectly at highest.

Darkfall Online - barely runs at all, I would avoid playing it on the M11x.

The Last Remnant - runs great at high settings, though it requires a couple of tweaks specific to the game - regardless of the M11x.

Mass Effect 2 - runs great if not perfect at highest settings.

Bioshock - runs good at highest settings, though I had the sound cracking issue all the time - guess it is the problem of the game itself. Anyway - the cracking is fixed by using the HDMI output.

Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl - runs so-so at high settings - though I am not sure if the problem is the M11x and not the game itself.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - plays great at highest settings.

Fallout 3 - plays good for me at high settings, I had to slightly lower certain parameters though, to reduce stuttering.

Batman Arkham Asylum - runs very good at high settings - though since it plays even better at lowest settings - there is still room for improvement there.

Gears of War - it may be just me - but the game seemed barely playable - tremendous stuttering, low fps, etc.

I'll add another post to the thread whenever I try out something new.

I've owned my m11x for about 5 months now and I'm starting to get stutter in most of my games like Oblivion and BIA: Hells Highway. Anyone know what the problem is? I see on this video of someone playing Oblivion and their fps always maintains about 40-60.

    Sorry for my bad english.

Need for speed Hot Pursuit - Laggy, I followed the instructions given at NFS Hot pursuit (2010) Optimization Walkthrough here in notebookreview forums but i cant get more than 23-24 fps, in some parts of the game, while racing, fps drops to 10-9. In my opinion, this is not problem of the R1, its optimization problem of the game, also there is an official update that "increase performance" but I dont see that increment. OC GPU doesnt appear to have effect into getting more FPS. Have to wait for more game updates.

FAR CRY 2- You can play it well with high settings (there are 3 settings in the game, high, very high and ultra), in high is playable 28-30 fps, very high you can play but you will notice the game is not that smooth, and with ultra you get 10-12 fps. With GPU OC i dont see a huge increment in fps , just 3-4.

Empire Total War is playable maxed out. No overclock yet, but you can pull ultra settings (except for particle effects which wants to stay at high for no reason...) with no AA. With overclock it would run extremely well :D. Without overclock, it is definitely playable.

You do know that you would have better luck asking a blind man to describe the Mona Lisa than using W.E.I. as a gaming benchmark right?

Just tell us what games you're interested in playing and chances are one of us has it installed and can tell you what FPS they get.

I used fraps to start a short test on my R1 and put the graphics to highest settings with 4x filtering. Let's just say that when idling, everything looks amazing (~30 fps average), but when in action packed sequences that would make Michael Bay proud, well, lets not go there :( . The load sequences had fps all over the place (on average, 18 fps, lowest was 1!) and during non-combat gameplay, it was somewhat tolerable. I have yet to test the gameplay with filtering off and other stuff set to medium (I have to have my dynamic shadows).

1280x720 dynamic shadows and ambient occlusion on, everything else off. foliage on low, textures on high. everything else on medium. runs great. only real problem i have is when i get hit by an elemental rocket launcher or if i walk through the fire from an fire weapon. very acceptable frame rates throughout though. played 1 playthrough and all DLC's with those settings. if you don't need dynamic shadows you can run with everything on high, everything turned on and 1280x720 res and still get great framerates. but i feel without dynamic shadow it takes away from the depth of the game and makes it look very plain.

I agree completely with the bit on dynamic shadows.

Guys, I having a problem with the audio in some games with my m11x R2, games like RE5, Oblivion and Fallout 3, I have sound, but not all, I hear the music from the game, sound effects, but some character dialogs are just they moving the mouth with no sound at all...

In RE5 the problem is with the ingame cinemas, they just move the mouth, in Oblivion/Fallout, if I walk near a NPC, they talk (like Hello or something), I can hear them, but if I talk directly to them, they just move the mouth, I now need to play with subtitles on in all those 3 games to understan something....

Found the issue, for some reason my m11x was set to 5.1 channels in sound, switched to 2 (stereo) and it works now perfect....

Anyone find that Medieval II: Total War runs horribly on the M11XR2?

It is lagging like crazy for me, Empire: Total War runs far better than it.. and I'mm pretty sure Medieval II is 3 years older than Empire: Total War! :(

I don´t have the game, but seeing the requeriments to run it, maxed out, the m11x should do it....

Due to it being rather old, I'd see if it's white-listed in the Nvidia options.

Not sure anyone cares, but I noticed that with the latest Nvidia drivers I get hitching on the R1 with Star Trek Online, but going back a version it works just fine, this with all equivalent settings. Hope this helps someone scanning the thread at some point! Tried it twice just to be sure, for whatever reason it likes version 8.16.11.8855.
